Love this version. Saw it performed during the Helioland tour and had me breathless. Martina's take on the vocals is stunning as it is brave, I take my hat off to her.
Fun fact: The original singers name was Elizabeth Davidson Fraser (born 29 August 1963) "Teardrop" is a song by English trip hop group Massive Attack. Vocals were performed by former lead singer of Cocteau Twins, Elizabeth Fraser who also wrote the lyrics. I like her version best : )
It's always a nice thing to hear a different version of any song. Every performer gives their own touch to it, so it makes it sound new and interesting. :)
I love this version. What makes it even better... I was there with my wife live at the time of this filming. Massive Attack concert the day before and then see them again 24 hours later... Priceless.
the thing that is impressive to me with massive attack is that whatever the line up you see, they are always doing sense, economy of notes, and it's really a new discovery, anytime.
This is my favorite version of this song. Thank you for uploading it again! It means a lot. This version used to be on the Jimmy Kimmel channel, then it mysteriously disappeared. This woman, Martina Topley-Bird, is f'ing amazing.
If the original singer is the only version you like, or you can't listen to it other than the original version what on God's Earth are you doing listening to this version for? It's not difficult to find the original go away and listen to it? I thought this was incredible. Thank you Massive Attack for doing something that I don't already have
Stop complaining its not Liz!!!! We know how ethereal the original is, but Martina sounds unique in this version also. Lets just all be happy that Massive Attack is still putting their media out there in all its revamped versions for us to enjoy
To all people out there who fail to appreciate this version by comparing it to the original version with vocals by Liz, here’s a few well chosen words by my favourite writer, Jeanette Winterson: “[...] When the sense of familiarity becomes too great, history, popularity, association, all crowd in between the viewer and the picture and block it out. Not only pictures suffer like this, all the arts suffer like this. That is one reason why the calling of the artist, in any medium, is to make it new. I do not mean that in new work the past is repudiated; quite the opposite, the past is reclaimed. It is not lost to authority, it is not absorbed at a level of familiarity. [...] “ So yes, people should feel free to critically appraise this version of the song, but if the only way they can talk about his performance is by reference to the original version and criticizing Massive Attack for wanting to try out something new rather than go down the beaten track (pun intended), then, to paraphrase Winterson, such people “are not criticising [music], they are missing it altogether.”
Are you people joking?? This woman is absolutely talented!! If someone comes first doesn't mean he's better than the one that comes after! People should stop appreceate past only and enjoy the moment...I know music used to be better before but M.A. was always brilliant!
Iwona you're the kind of fucking Muppet that thinks Paul Potts version of nessun dorma is better than Pavarotti's, this is shite without Liz. Less of you'se in music would save the medium
saw massive attack last year in nyc...just as i was wondering who they were gonna have singing, i almost lost my mind when martina stepped on stage!!! omg! thanks for the upload. effin' amazing!
I love Massive Attack and I've been a Cocteau Twins fan since I was a kid.And I love this version. Of course it's different ! But why the fuck not? Performative art is about transcendence and this takes its original essence and reimagines it. Lovely stuff
I agree! And I don't get why so much complaining, to be entirely honest, even though Liz Fraser is the original singer, I do not enjoy her live renditions to this song as I do not think she sounds as ethereal as she did on the record. Martina is an amazing singer on her own and this version is freaking killer; I loved the minimalism to it. Thank you for uploading this version! :D
I liked the studio version and this is captivating. Too bad about the advertising banners around the stage disrupting the atmosphere, but that's how it goes.
I always wondered how anyone would handle covering a song I associate with Liz Fraser. She did a great job with the delivery and the sparcer environment. Nice to hear this song in a new light as well. And that was Martina Topley-Bird? She's really enriched her voice since she sang with Tricky, and she was pretty awesome then
Massive Attack is a band that constantly redoes and reevaluates their songs. Don't expect it to be like the record every time you see a live performance. If that bothers you, stay at home and spin the fucking record. If you want to see something amazing, then tune in for shit like this, and buy a concert ticket next time they roll around.
interstellish : Thanks ! I agree with you 100%. I like when artists explore , expand and reevaluate their songs. Just like MA , Led Zeppelin , Nirvana , Prince , Pink Floyd , David Bowie and Queen , just to mention a few masterminds.
Think I'll have to stick to the record because this version is not to my liking. A lot of artists do great live versions of their records though, so it's understandable people are disappointed. Hopefully I find a better live version on RUclips and don't have to just spin the fucking record! :)
I saw martina and massive attack in auckland 2010. It still gives me goosebumps now. Such a beautiful version
Musique indémodable encore en 2024
Love this version. Saw it performed during the Helioland tour and had me breathless. Martina's take on the vocals is stunning as it is brave, I take my hat off to her.
I love Martina she has a lovely voice and is a huge reason why I love and started listening to tricky
Agreed, actually love Tricky but her voice made his album!
Divi Crockett whose album 🤷🏻♂️ she wasn’t the original
Shes rock on "Black Steel" 🤘
💚💜
Love love love this.......3.41...a guitar solo faithful to the song...
Stunningly elegant.

i actually love this version. beautiful, simple. allowing the voice to tell all.
no id why....but this song still gives me goosebumps....love it..Massive Attack gives me good memory's...thanks!
the thing that is impressive to me with massive attack is that whatever the line up you see, they are always doing sense, economy of notes, and it's really a new discovery, anytime.
I just love Martina's voice
Супер!Обалденная версия!Гитарное соло в конце вообще огонь!Красавчики!
Вы вырываете слова и из моей песни 😉
The singer is AMAZING and she owns this song...and she is gorgeous !
She was Tricky's singer on Christiansands
Such an amazing version. I am so thankful that she sang it this time!
Perfeito! Mágico! 5 minutos no céu.
Damn the composition of this version was amazing
omg. I have lived!! Martina is my favorite vocalist and this is just amazing.
This is my favorite version of this song. Thank you for uploading it again! It means a lot. This version used to be on the Jimmy Kimmel channel, then it mysteriously disappeared. This woman, Martina Topley-Bird, is f'ing amazing.
This is HEAVEN !!!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I thought this was incredible. Thank you Massive Attack for doing something that I don't already have
I’m drinking a sixer of Bud Light to thank them for sponsoring this. Magnificent version of Teardrop. Thank you so much for posting this!
@beastandbeast This song doesn't need to be better than the original it's different and that's all it ever needs to be.
Beautiful!!
Simply lovely.....
Fantastic version.
Wonderful to hear how over the years they've refined the song into a simple intertwining of exquisite beauty.
By far the best version of this song is covered by Aurora live........incredible angel voice
Derek AGREED!
Why are these comments the same
I.saw a comment says aurora is the fetus from the music video 🤣🤣🤣
This is amazing, Props to her Singing after Liz's performance .. bet none of yous Slaggers and "know-it-alls" would even attempt to sing this.
I love both versions. Liz is incredible but Martina gives something special to this song. She is pure talent...
Amazing version. Love how they mixed it up.
Amazing live performance, once again Martina showed her fantastic talents
The beauty of sound :p
Stop complaining its not Liz!!!! We know how ethereal the original is, but Martina sounds unique in this version also. Lets just all be happy that Massive Attack is still putting their media out there in all its revamped versions for us to enjoy
Sooooo beautiful

Absolutely amazing, one of my all-time favorites. Thank you for the upload.

Martina is awesome. Solo & with Massive Attack.
And Early TRICKY
Yep.
she's class isn't she , i love her! ruclips.net/video/wang71QyKYM/видео.html
there is no word to say .... wonderfull
Bristol did to music what Britain did in the 60's.... this is just beautiful
love that version. so much more hallucinatory and less compressed than the album version.
It's much more compressed, they cut lyrics from this version.
There is just something about this version that makes me pay all my attention to it
@ScaredRed2010
I saw them twice. And believe me, they are absolutely amazing LIVE! If you ever get a chance to watch them live, do not miss it!
Love this version :)
One of their better live ones
une superbe voix qui comme celle de Beth Gibbons.... nous transportes dans un voyage lointain
How am I just seeing this. Love it.
Absolutely sublime
Every version of this is dope xxxx
love that version. so much more hallucinatory and less compressed than the album version.
Sooooo beautiful
What a beautiful song whoever does it
Bud light? Massive Attack is bigger than that. One of the best bands ever....
Liz Fraser es indispensable.
This is awesome!
This version of martina topley-bird is amazing, but sinead its iconic!this live version with martina was one of the best lives!
This is so emotional, damn :(
I miss this incredible bassline. The song is naked without it.
well said
Sofia Noiti Naked is good !
+Sofia Noiti It sounds so much trippy'er this way...
Tnx. for name !
I don't understand why they changed the beat so much. The consistency in the original worked better if you ask me
awesome tune love it
hypnotic and trippy. wow! it stands alongside the original impressively.
It's juste pureness! Beautiful!
Amazing version. Love how they mixed it up.
" Brought to you by BUD LIGHT!!!!".............FFS
Wow. Love this collaboration with Bill Murray.
saw massive attack last year in nyc...just as i was wondering who they were gonna have singing, i almost lost my mind when martina stepped on stage!!! omg! thanks for the upload. effin' amazing!

Beautiful version!
I love Massive Attack and I've been a Cocteau Twins fan since I was a kid.And I love this version. Of course it's different ! But why the fuck not? Performative art is about transcendence and this takes its original essence and reimagines it. Lovely stuff
I use to be a cocteau twins fan, but Elizabeth's dissatisfaction came through the music. I also became dissatisfied. Funny how that works
What just happened? I think I've been hypnotized! It was awesome.
Newton faulkner is the best singer who sings this song with his guitar and that beautiful voice
This is beautiful!!
can't lie, i love this one too.. \m/
great version. thanks for posting.
Liz fraser and martina 💗👏🔥 love both versions.
My favorite live version by far. Love the guitar playing and the singer. Sorry Liz fans, I like what I like.
so beautifull version
I agree! Martina doing this makes sense. Love it
I love her voice.
Awesome...simply awesome...
THIS GIRL JUST DESTROYED WHAT USED TO BE A GREAT SONG..
Alberto R. Diaz Just out of curiosity: Do you still stand by this comment seven years later?
I liked the studio version and this is captivating. Too bad about the advertising banners around the stage disrupting the atmosphere, but that's how it goes.
Fantastic. Original version is very good. This version though(with this particular singer) is even better...
I just love how the crowd has no idea how to react
I was there. It's better live and loud.
It's Martina topley ? Damm so many memories...
melted version of teardrop, lov it
Que viagem... ótima música.
シーケンスっぽいドラムを生で叩いてるのがカッコイイなぁ。憧れる。
love this version. the ending instrumental part is nice.
I love Liz Fraser voice.....its not fair to destroy the original version! Long live to Liz Fraser from Cocteau Twins.

+interstellish I watch them twice. And I can tall you they are much better live ;)
interstellish : Thanks !
I agree with you 100%. I like when artists explore , expand and reevaluate their songs. Just like MA , Led Zeppelin , Nirvana , Prince , Pink Floyd , David Bowie and Queen , just to mention a few masterminds.
It just feels wrong because Liz wrote this song for Jeff, doesn't feel right to hear someone else sing it.
interstellish so true , long live Massive Attack
