This is so cool to learn about. The whole concept seems really fun and would be a different take on the formula while still feeling like a Hey Arnold show with some familiar Hey Arnold faces. Even just doing a season 6 being a short 1-2 year time skip since the end of the show to pick up where we left off and see what everyone is up to now. There definitely needs to be more Hey Arnold. Your love and passion for this show is infectious!

I really liked Helga's family dynamic. It felt so real. The golden child, the dad that was really hard on his kids because he wanted to live vicariously through them, and the mom that seemed completely passive (possibly inebriated) just trying to get through. I don't know another cartoon that felt so raw.

Not only because of the reverse role they play with Helga now, but being an over achiever up to college and then crash down, not seeing a clear path to follow after, losing time in death ends... This actually happens a lot more often than you'd think in real life families who play favorites with their kids. The "good one" often faces inflated expectations and a lot of family pressure, and the "other one" often ends up raising themself and developing better self-sustaining skills. In both cases, it leads to emotional trauma for both kids, it just manifests differently.

I just realized that this "becoming a better person" is EXACTLY what Miriam and Bob did with Olga! In a few flashbacks when Olga is still at home, you see Miriam being sober, and Bob seeming to be a proud father, using his daughters success to support his own business. They put all the pressure on Olga to be perfect because she has potential. Meanwhile Helga was dropped like a rock and just had to grow up without that love. If as a teen she's starting to shine, the parents do the exact same thing. Only Helga has had 15yrs of neglect, and can more quickly figure out how conditional this love really is. Unlike Olga who it sounds got the golden child treatment much earlier, and therefore wasn't able to recognize how conditional her parents love really was.

From the sounds of it this series COULD have worked. The premise for it is interesting and the Patakis were some of the most interesting characters in Hey Arnold.
However if it were going to be made today we would have to have the right people working on it. We ALL know how badly wrong it can go if the wrong people work on an adult take of a beloved kids' show.
    “Do you mean Vel-“
SHH!!! WE DO NOT SPEAK ITS NAME!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
One thing I’d love to see if it did happen is to have a character introduced that Olga goes full stalker on. Similar to how her sister was with Arnold, though on a slightly more deranged level. I think there could be some untapped potential of exploring the results of Olga's status on “Golden Child” taken away, seeing her fall into an even darker pit than Helga did when she was ignored. @@KnucklesxReala911 No, Bob was overtly abusive. His behavior was not remotely normal or acceptable. I'm not projecting, I'm saying this as someone who had a normal, non-abusive dad. Even as a child I could tell Bob was a bad father, and not a "bad father" in the "bumbling idiot" kind of trope, but actually actively terrible. Miriam was a neglectful acoholic for sure, but Bob was a screamer/yeller who physically intimidated everyone to get his way.

I love that the Golden Child / Scapegoat dynamic of Helga and Olga would have been flipped, because that is so true to reality. Olga was constantly bringing in awards and accolades, but ultimately failed to launch, meanwhile Helga is actively getting accolades because she is younger. Miriam and Bob only know how to coddle one child and ignore the other, so when Olga starts becoming a loser with no prospects, it makes sense they'd turn on her, and of course, never blame themselves.

Originally when The Jungle Movie was planned in the early 00s, Craig revealed Arnold's parents would have passed away which would have been the case for The Patakis too. When they re-picked it up, Craig decided instead to keep the parents alive. Though it could still be very plausible to have Arnold leave, eg: the green eyes are in trouble again or something and this time Arnold joins his parents as he doesn't want to be left behind again.

Honestly I love the idea of Olga going from "Perfect" to "Loser" since a lot of kids who were pressured and were the "perfect gifted kid" burnt out after college and in many ways became "Losers" because they finally broke. There is literally a meme bout "Were you the gifted kid everyone had high hopes for but now you're in your 30s working a dead end job with no future in sight or are you normal?" and other versions ... and the fact that so many "Gifted" and "Perfect" kids RELATE to that says /a lot/.
I can imagine after going to college and all the pressure to perform was gone from her parents + the lack of praise [since she didn't live at home] - Ogla filled her life with boyfriends [as mentioned] to fill the gap of praise and attention she used to get from her folks. And then being on her own without needing to perform, she started to let herself slip here and there for a bit of "much needed rest" and eventually tumbled down. She still graduated but finally having unexpected freedom kind of messed herself up to some degree and "became a loser" as suggested. It's super common with the gifted kids or if the golden child is older and goes off on their own and reality bites them. It's really a perfect transition, and could even be something for Helga to worry about becoming when she's the center of attention / seen now in the same light. Could even be something she'd have to overcome [both in fear and practice] and maybe help set her sister back right before it gets to be too late.

This is pretty much fan fiction here, but years ago I came up with a fan character for Hey Arnold. I never named the guy but he would be the "cool uncle" archetype who would enter Helga's life. The estranged brother of either Bob or Miriam, they would move back to the city after a multiple-year absence to try to mend his relationship with his sibling. And would end up having a very positive influence on Helga's life from that point on.
Helga would look up to her uncle and strive to be the kind of person he is.

I like that idea. Literally the only person who is a major positive role model is Arnold. The rest of the kids and their teacher had a lot of redeeming qualities - loyalty, for one - but since Helga doesn't have much respect for them, they don't have much influence on her.
