    I knew that Dentistry would be SO HARD right from the start, but I am so optimistic. Generally, it's the field where I wanna spend the rest of my life with.

    As a 5th yr dental student, yeah I thought dentistry is more easier compared to general medicine, and it shocked me now😅 it will drained you mentally, physically, emotionally and financially. I think anyone who wants to pursue dentistry, you need to open for criticism, and of course practice your hand-skill and be prepared to read many books as what other medical student always did. ❤

    Before, as a child, I am TRAUMATIZED going to the dentist. The clinic, staffs, smell, ambiance, tools, and just everything scares me! Growing up like that made my dental sessions feel like a nightmare. The only thing I love about it is the chair 😂 because it can go up and down. So at the age of 17 yrs old, I got back to a different dental clinic and different dentist after years and boiii I was damn scared but remained composed. At first I need to get 4 dental fillings, then get 3 baby tooth extracted (yes I grew up still having baby tooth's, 2 are abnormal and 1 normal), and get braces after. During the process or procedure of all these things, my dentist made me forget my traumatic past and instead made me feel safe and comfortable. Whenever I twitch because of the pain or sensitivity I feel, she stops what she's doing and make sure I am fine. That's what inspired and motivated me to become a dentist, a dentist like her. I know the journey to become one is difficult but I'll stay optimistic and confident. I am just an average high school student, not that special. Yes, I do well in school and my grades aren't bad but not the type of student who gets "with high honors." I am also taking advantage of my parents who are both financially stable and super supportive. Love them to the moon and back. So yeah, that's all I gotta say. I'm still in gr 11 now. Hopefully a future dentist!💜

    Hi ate! Awesome videos (currently marathoning your uploads now haha). Not many people go into dentistry and even fewer people vlog about dental school and EVEN EVEN FEWER Filipinos vlog about the Philippine dental school experience which is why I'm so glad that you're sharing your experiences about dentistry. I actually just realized that I wanted to take up dentistry only in 12th grade haha and so far, I think I'm not leaving dentistry (pero I should really decide na before I hit 60 units HAHAHAHAHA). All the love ate from the freshieeees UPCD 2027.

      Omg hello!!!! I couldn’t agree more with everything you just said about vlogging and the philippine dental school experience. 😂 I think the new curriculum introduces you to dentistry a bit more earlier on than the old one did so I hope more people are finalizing their decisions before they hit that magical 60 unit mark! ☺️ I’m glad you’re leaning towards staying too! MUCH LOVE BACK TO YOU AND YOUR BATCH!!! I hope we see each other on campus soon. 💛

    Back in year 2012 I was already considering about shifting to dentistry, but I wasn't brave enough to tell my parents about it, as I was already in my last year 😅
    Fast forward to now, I'm still considering taking dentistry, but worried if my mental health can take the school pressure & stress again 🤣
    I do hope I'm not too old for school if ever I decided to pursue it, because this is my last year in my 20's 🤣

    Soooo helpful 🥺 Doc, can you give us an idea on how to become a Pediatric Dentist or Oral Surgeon ❤️

    • @MarPagan
      @MarPagan  3 года назад

      In order to become a Pediatric Dentist or Oral Surgeon - in other words a dental specialist - you will have to apply for residency in whatever speciality you choose after you graduate from dental school and pass the board exam. 😊 As far as I know, pediatric dentistry residency takes at least 2 years while oral surgery is longer than that. You can definitely look online for post-graduate programs in dentistry in the PH or abroad. And in order to be called a specialist, you must have the required degree after completing a full program, not just a seminar or short course with a certificate. 😊 Thank you for question! I hope this helps.

    How many years to take specialization ? Or the specialization included in the 6 years ?

    • @MarPagan
      @MarPagan  Год назад +1

      Specialization is completely different. It depends which specialty you choose to apply for and it’s not included in dental school. You have to go to dental school first, pass the board exam, become a dentist and then you can decided if you want to specialize in something specific or not. Then you have to look for schools that offer the program you wish to apply to.

      Hello! I’m not going to include tuition because I don’t know how much tuition costs in other schools (UP tuition is free). But for instruments and materials, it’s at least php 100,000. These include instruments you will use for decades and also those that are consumable. The instruments that should last you for years or maybe even until the end of your career are typically the ones that cost the most.

    • @MarPagan

      Definitely!! There are so many fields in dentistry that emphasize different sets of skills. You don’t need to be so artistic (as in great at drawing or painting) to be a dentist. For example, some people’s hand skills aren’t the best so they prefer fields that don’t require really fine dexterity work. I suggest exploring the different specialities and fields in dentistry so you can understand what I mean even more. 😊
