A pierced shoulder, a grazed neck, a shaft in the thigh. The swirling runic tattoos that covered him from head to toe were supposed to protect him from harm, but arrow after arrow found its mark. @Fro Ing Im actually referring to Proto-Germans (I dont know how to name them precisely otherwise) as people who lived during Mesolithic (around 10.000 years ago) in places that will be Scandinavia/ancient Germany thousands years later. So actually there were no germans, nor slavs, nor greeks nor even romans yet. And we are pretty sure that this group of people of Kongemose culture used to perform shamanic rituals (maybe even since the Paleolithic), but none can prove that they did throat singing too, I must grant you.

The track’s called ‘Chant for the Old Gods’, but the Northerners also call their pantheon the Old Gods. Does that mean that the two cultures may have a similar religion? With how sometimes you can resolve conflicts with barbarians in a ‘more civilized’ way (a duel instead of destroying a whole camp), does that put barbarians and human of the North much closer than they seem?
well, considering this is basically europe... the various noble houses are comparable to european statelets of the middle ages, as in they likely descended from the various hunnic tribes that populated europe following fall of western rome...aka barbarians.
They're basically cavemen/vikings. Big, primitive, violent guys. They do not have the same religion, as implied by the Barbarian start. They capture a priest, and are about to kill him because they think he is going to preach them his religion, but he tells them there's coin to be made in the South.
There are probably more similarities than they'd like to admit. Given the Northerners are germanic/celtic and the Barbarians are Norse/Caveman. But I don't think this is The Barbs doing the chanting, so much as the northerners wading into battle against them in the snow.

I notice that when fighting chosen, my brother's heads seem to get larger than their bodies.
The Barbarians OST is absolutely awesome! A question about this one - does it use hurdy-gurdy? Clacking and the drone give that impression...
Close, it's a Nyckelharpa which has similar mechanics for pressing down the strings but it is played with a bow and not with a crank like the hurdy gurdy. They do sound similar though agreed!
@@breakdownepiphanies3364 Thank you! I was today years old when I learned Nyckelharpa exists :)
my men are being slaughtered but the music is a skull basher
Lyrics at the start are like: "Get...going... TEN PERCENT... get...going...TEN PERCENT!"
"Well I just lost 6 good men, but at least I feel culturally enriched"
truly one of the best song if not the best song paired with a game. I wish there was more informations of your work and hope you get other contracts for games. Even discounting game the music is awesome for those who like neo tribal neo pagan music.
Excellent!

I just realized there is subtle chants from the left speaker on my headphones that I never realized this until now because my left speaker never worked.
Best track in the game!

Is this the full version of the preview track that was posted a month or two ago? You guys did a brilliant job!
Thanks Dacia! Yes this is the full version of that track. We also uploaded the second Barbarian battle track but the RUclips algo decided to match a phrase in it with a ten year old latino pop song. :D We hope we can share that one soon.
