      30:22 Gloucester went blind, not King Lear. King Lear was morally blind, which is why Kay keeps calling Michael blind in the abortion scene of Part 2. It sounds like you didn't read King Lear, either. This explains why you don't like Part 3. You're evaluating Part 3 for it's entertainment value, not it's artistic value.

    • @erwinquiachon8054
      @erwinquiachon8054 7 месяцев назад

      Mary died in Part 3 because Cordelia died in King Lear. That's where he got the famous King Lear howl that Michael does after holding Mary/Cordelia's dead body, recreating the classic imagery from the play.

    • @erwinquiachon8054
      @erwinquiachon8054 7 месяцев назад

      We finally get a proper ending in Part 3 that matches King Lear. Michael Corleone's King Lear howl was as good as any I've ever seen. "Howl, howl, howl! O, you are men of stones! Had I your tongues and eyes, I’d use them so That heaven’s vault should crack. She’s gone forever."

    • @erwinquiachon8054

      Part 3 keeps growing in popularity through film schools, where it is evaluated for its complex artistic value compared to it's model, King Lear, instead of some simple form of entertainment with very simple stories and simple characters, like Goodfellas. The more people compare Part 3 to a complex classic work of art like King Lear, the more it's popularity grows over time, especially with the more educated people in every society.

      I actually rewatched all three movies last week. And part I is NOT perfect by any stretch of the imagination. It has severe pacing issues pretty much from when Michael leaves the country up to his return. It also jumps ahead in time without any real sense of said time having elapsed.
      Part II is better paced for sure but had its own problems, mainly the back and forth between Vito's backstory and Michael's ongoing story. The thing is that Michael's story in part II is just not that interesting. Had it not been for the all the flashbacks with De Niro as young Vito part II would just be dull.
      Part III isn't perfect either. However, it is very well paced and the story is actually engaging from start to finish. In my book, part III is on par with parts I and II. And I would rank all of them a solid 4/5.

    I wouldn't call it a complete disaster. I would however say it was a seriously missed opportunity.
    That is the issue with directors who try to break away from what got them there.
    The Godfather made Coppola and he got his success, notoriety and Oscars from Parts I and II.
    Instead of capitalizing while hot and making Godfather III in the late 70s or early 80s to complete the story with the death of Michael...and leaving open the door for a continuation with Vincent as the head of the family in the early 90s...he allowed his empire to languish. Then when in dire need of money he had lost all of the influence that he had in the early 70s and had to bend to the studios.
    Lucas did something similar with Star Wars. Had he jumped on the Extended Universe Timothy Zahn (Thrawn) trilogy and made the sequels before the actors got too old he could have maintained control and not had to sell it to Disney.
    It should have been 1997 Episode VII, 2000 Episode IX and 2003 Episode X ending with Han, Leia and Luke's kids as the new generation that could head up E 11-13 down the road when they are older.
    Then he could have taken some time and made the prequels.
    2007 - Episode I
    2010 - Episode II
    2013 - Episode III
    By 2017 (14 years after Episode X) he could have written and had someone else direct Episode XII
    2020 - Episode XIII
    2023 - Episode XIV
    And that pretty much would begin an entirely new trilogy with new younger heroes and a send off/hand off from the original trilogy heroes.
    Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda.

    The incest is a reference to the Oedipal complex of King Lear. Lear's daughters married men who were like their father. Coppola's grandparents were first cousins, yet they produced healthy, hyper talented children and grandchildren who thrive today, while the Corleones failed miserably. That's why Coppola chose Sofia to represent both the Corleones and Coppolas, as a comparison of the two families. Sofia's real life success proves that her selection for that role was brilliantly correct. Part 3 was Coppolas best writing of all three films because it was ahead of its time. Coppola never wanted to be associated with the racist stereotypes of the mafia. He made that very clear in Part 3 by casting Sofia. Sofia dies in the film by the sins of the Corleones, but she continues to thrive in real life by the virtues of the Coppolas. Many people are only now starting to realize how smart Coppola's decisions in Part 3 are today.

From the start, he was making the Godfather films as modern versions of King Lear as his own creative way to keep from throwing up while making a gangster movie. The people who misinterpret the Godfather films are the same people who don't understand King Lear. Part 3 grows in popularity in film schools as a brilliant modern version of King Lear. It's idiotic to compare Part 3 to Goodfellas when it should be compared to King Lear. Goodfellas is a very simple form of entertainment. Part 3 is a complex work of art that is modeled after one of the greatest works of art, King Lear.

    It's a decent movie and I wouldn't call it a disaster by any means. It had more to live up to than any other movie ever made and suffered some pretty unfair criticism because of that. 1&2 are solid 10/10 movies. I'd give 3 a 7/10.

    For me the first two were about consequences from living a life and those affected by it. The third felt like it was about forgiveness and redemption despite the events with their daughter it felt like the movie wanted me to be sorry for Michael or even Kay and for me it fell flat and undermined the first two movies. His long life dying alone was his punishment and the first two movies set that up perfectly, it’s a shame the third one doesn’t respect that.

    There's this great mini- documentary on Sofia Coppela that I recommend because it goes into the real meaning behind this film. Francis's son had recently passed away and when Winona Rider wasn't able to be in the film Francis insisted on Sofia even though she really didn't want to do it. She would cry, and beg him but he just wanted to keep his family close. It's really sad and puts this movie into a different perspective.... nevermind you mentioned it at the end of the video, and the BekindRewind video.

    Orange 🍊 is the only color that breaks down to the number 33 in numerology, which is associated with the 1/3 fallen angels and (supposedly influenced by this) the highest *known* (honorary) degree in the Freemasons. If that's the connection or not, I don't know. But it's at least worth mentioning, considering the association with fallen beings and people (as connected to Lucifer). It's very esoteric but something Coppola and others involved with the writing would be familiar with due, at minimum, to intensive attention to detail.

    The story written by Vincent Patrick could have worked. He wrote the novel and screenplay The Pope Of Greenwich Village starring Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts, who was approached to star in a Godfather 3 in 1979. It was to be directed by John Guillerman. The film The Pope Of Greenwich Village was meant to star Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro, but they both backed out of the film.

    Connie made reference to Fredo drowning in coda. Did she really think he drowned or deep in her heart does she know that Michael had him killed off? I always wondered that and did she put the poison in the cannoli? Or did somebody else? It kind of seemed like Connie was getting a sinister side.

    • @Seattle-2017
      @Seattle-2017 6 дней назад +1

      I think she knew Michael had Fredo killed, but she brings up Fredo's drowning because she didn't want to give Michael a chance to confess the killing to her. It's too painful a subject for her to even hear about. In the trilogy, Connie matures to the point where she completely understands all of Michael's actions, even the killing of Fredo. And she sure as hell did poison the cannoli; she was watching and waiting for Altobello to die during the Opera.

      It wasn’t nepotism. Winona Ryder was originally scheduled to play Mary, but she pulled out just days before filming was supposed to start. Sofia didn’t want the part but was convinced to do it, because if they had brought in another actress, it would’ve delayed filming.
