Maiden Flight of Hughes H4 Hercules June 3rd 2017 Myrdalsvannet outside Bergen, Norway Here you can see the build progress: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...
I worked for Hughes Tool Company Aircraft Division that built the Flying Boat. I got the chance to do a few tours of the aircraft while it was in the hanger in Long Beach, CA. Amazing aircraft. I was able to go up in the vertical and walk out in the wing behind the engines. Seeing the RC model brings back many great memories. Thanks for a great representation of a one of a kind aircraft.
The Spruce Porpoise! That plane looks so cool on takeoffs! Very well done. I have been inside the real Spruce Goose and now I have seen the coolest RC flying boat ever. I can die a happy aviation nerd now.
Thanks! The porpoising happens just at a certain speed. On a normal takeoff it is not a problem. It is common for flying boats, and compromises have to be made on hull shape. I moved the step a bit down and rearwards to be more model friendly, and that makes the porpoising worse, but improves handling in all other situations.
An excellent build, and some excellent flying. It really does have a great scale look in its behavior, whereas most scale aircraft obviously light and toylike while taking off and landing. Well done.
I like how he did a scale flight to start with to represent the first (and only) flight of this ludicrous leviathan. The model was certainly more successful than the original.
Thanks. It is not really a difficult model to build. Just have to modify certain hull and wing details for model size. And most important, keep the weight down.
This is the , "BEST " test flight video , I have ever seen . I give you a 9.9 ( sorry , I don,t give out 10s , have to leave something for the other guy ) Truly great video to watch , many can learn from this video
Yeah Henry! It's such a waste now that it's being held captive in the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon, USA. What a waste!! :( :( :(
Wonder why Hughes dumped the plane and never flew it again or allowed anyone else to take it up there? This model shows its great air worthiness. Shame waste but congratulations to these fellows for a great build and flying skills! But make the next one full scale please !
The closest thing, you're going to get, to seeing, the real thing flying😁!!! Excellent show👍👏👏!!!
Thanks!
You have more air time then the real one ! Well done , Mr. H would be proud of you .
why is this design SO beautiful?!?
She flies beautifully, well balanced. What a joy to watch! Well done Arvid!

Before I built the model, I went to McMinnville to see the real one, and yes, I have pictures of myself in Howard's seat!
Awesome plane! Howard Hughes would have been proud!
Thanks!
Nice an scale, looked like Huge's inside flying her, thumb's up mates.
Excellent model, and fabulous scale flying speed.

Exactly!
I love it. Looks great in the air and on the water. Fantastic project.
Excellent, very nice indeed, lovely scale speed and the takes offs and landing were spot on, well done.
Two beauties ... one before another .. a poem in spruce . :)
Hej! Beautiful! Plane, lake, mountains, all perfect!
Flies like a sail plane on water, absolutely beautiful looking and flying
Great video! Congratulations on the beautiful model and a very successful maiden flight.
Scale model , scale speed, brilliant job .

Flies better than the real thing! Howard Hughes should have had you as a consultant. LOL
Howard Hughes would be proud 👏
Thanks!
Beautiful! I loved the scale speed and landings.
Thank you! Keeping the weight down was top priority.
Y al fin voló...
Excelente trabajo.
👍👍🇨🇱
Perfect flight - it just seemed to levitate with little effort. Fabulous
A thing of beauty.
Thank you!
Wonderful model. Great maiden flight.
Gorgeous model! Love it man and what a complex model to undertake

I went to California to see both it and the Queen Mary. This was while it was in still in Long Beach California.
Fantastisk flott modell - imponerende byggverk :)

Thank you! It was very satisfying to se her fly after all the work.
Closest thing we’ll get to seeing the real thing fly again

Beautiful! Well done. Congratulations.
Thank you very much!
I really like the slow "scaled" speed.
Build big and lightweight, and that will happen!
STUNNING!
Astounding and outstanding!!
Thank you!
A might fine bird sir. Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya
Thank you kindly
Beautiful!
Very nice , spot on
very nice scale flying
The sound is a bit jarring, but howling nitros wouldn't be any better.
Beautiful plane.
True! I miss the rumble.
Could be the basis for a fiction film: "How Howard conquered the North". 😜 Just joking, great model and great bit of flying.
Brilliant Sir, have you considered a trolley for getting her into the water?
Flott modell og like fin flyging! :) Blir du og modellen å se på Fagernes neste helg?
beautiful place to fly from .
It really is!
Very cool 👍
Flies better than the airframe on which it is based.

Vakkert!
mark r pa thx howard was a bit late but he flew it
It’s called Hercules and it will fly
rett og slætt nydelig. 😊
Takk so myket
Congratulations, did you celebrate with Lute Fisk dinner?
Das ist gut, ya.
probably farther than the original
Hercules
You should not take pontoons off
It was not on purpose. They were held on with magnets. A bit of sideways load made them fall off. A better system has since been added.
Disappointed is not gas powered.
I once had a 4 engine glow powered flying boat. Took half a day getting all 4 running in sync. Just imagine 8 engines..
Beautiful!
