  • Somewhat unsurprisingly, No. 1 2025 prospect AJ Dybantsa committed to BYU Tuesday. Somewhat surprisingly, reports are he will make between 5 and 7 million dollars during his time in Provo. Baylor has been a big time player in the NIL game for basketball, but will numbers like these leave everyone else in the dust?

BYU fan here. This signing is as much about putting BYU on the map for big-time recruits to consider BYU as an NBA development system with Kevin Young and Co., as it is about trying to go to the Final Four, etc. I see it like an investment - pay big money to a likely generational talent and then kids who are good fits within the BYU culture don't immediately dismiss Provo. And I am VERY grateful that Scott Drew didn't take the Kentucky job!

This. 5 million dollars in perpetual advertising that just gets better and better as AJ's career in the NBA gets better and better.

I agree, it wasn't just a random #1 pick, it is AJ Dybantsa. The hype around him is bigger than most #1 guys.

It’s closer to the 5, million figure. One sports guy makes a statement and everybody runs with it. They were all offering about the same. He didn’t come just for the money. It was the coaches, the trainers and even the dietitian and the whole atmosphere in PROvo.

This money does not come from BYU> BYIU is owned by the church and the church will not pay that money. It comes from the NIL collective or boosters. The fans.

I think the jazz owner did it to have a nice factory feeding into the jazz teams

@@thomasmoore3706 The jazz owner loves BYU as do many of the people that attended BYU. BYU greatness has never been driven by money. Just go to a game at the Marriott Center. That energy is not driven by money.

Ur wrong Sydney. Danny Ainge and the Utah Jazz owner got boosters together and BYU has a lot of money to get top players in basketball every year!

The teams putting out the $7M kind of numbers were the ones that were competing with BYU for AJ. They want everyone to believe that BYU could only get the kid because of money. BYU has more than money to offer AJ. Also, Mormon Ute fans love it when you say things like BYU has all the Church as fans haha. Either you're trolling or uninformed.

Ryan Smith didn’t spend a penny on this deal. It’s $5 million including money from Red Bull and Nike. Apparently there are 10 billionaires within 5 miles of the BYU campus it was the collective that came up with the cash. The other 3 finalists for AJ came up with the same $5 million package.
