Outside of maybe the Dice Tower there aren’t two companies that have shaped my love of and experience with the hobby more than Stonemaier Games and Covenant. A lot of this is a credit to the way Jamey and Zach/Steven speak about games. Hope I get the opportunity to meet you both in person someday, but know you both are having a lasting impact on the hobby and the people who are part of it.
This was really fascinating. I’ve been trying to design my own card game just for fun and happened to come up with similar ideas to Ashes Reborn and Sorcery. I was wondering if any other games used mechanics like that bc I was only really familiar with the big three. Parallel thinking is really fascinating, but to see those ideas talked about so highly is really encouraging! :D
This was one of your best interviews/conversations ! I am a board game fan , but a lot of my friends are getting into card games, so I've always been interested in the crossover and experiencing both ! I love the very passionate communities for these games and I loved hearing Zach talk about the card games' origins were, and the history on the publishing side of things. Super great conversation and I am going to check out Zach's channel !
Interesting perspectives from Zach. As a control player at heart, it was really funny to hear his perspective on Alpha Clash and Keyforge. Love the insights, I hope I can get into Ashes someday.
@jameystegmaier indeed it is. I beg your pardon for not being more clear. Zack's company used to promote it and sell it quite a bit! I really wish it had been a bigger hit with gamers. it was really great! an Eric Lang design.
Nailed it with Gudnak. I was a Magic the Gathering player in high school (early 2000's), who converted to modern boardgaming with that and friend group within the past 5 years. Gudnak hit us really hard - loving it.
The basketball scoring end game is called the Elam Ending. You play 55-60 minutes similar to a normal game. Then the clock is turned off and teams play an untimed period where the winning score is the leading team's score + X, 11 has been popular number for X. It takes out some of the negative aspects of the clock like stalling and fouling out in addition to that end game shot excitement.
I recommend trying Ashes Reborn. It is a great game but more so, it got the best solo/coop mode for that type of games. It is wild how well Nick Conley and PHG did. I've played Ashes coop way more than Ashes PvP in the last year. :)
I second this. The fact that Ashes has added solo/coop boss fights should definitely be mentioned. Especially because that aspect of it will appeal more to board gamers.
Fwiw the Babylon 5 ccg by precedence back in the late 90s had a “you choose your opening hand” mechanic. You could start with any three cards you wanted, they just had to each be different card types.
Two of my favorite, most genuine people chatting together. Awesome!
Woah, this is a crossover I never expected!
Covenant/Stonemaier collab! Amazing!
This is one of my favorite chats. Zach was awesome.
@@jameystegmaierYour channels were two of the ways I made it through the pandemic. I appreciate both of you.
Might be my favorite collab of all time!
What a nice surprise! 🎉

I have had my eyes on Gudnak and ashes reborn. Warlord seems cool also.
Hell yeah Covenant!

Really enjoy this video idea. Tons of good insights
AGOT ccg/lcg is my favorite non rpg table top game ever. I've watched it die three times now. bums me out so much. nice video, guys.
For those who don't know, I'm pretty sure AGOT is A Game of Thrones, yes? :)

great collab, I follow both of you guys since the early days of the pandemic
I've been loving gudnak so much, I've never gotten into deck building games before, but this is right up my alley. Love the community as well
That's awesome! I'm curious to try it.
@@jameystegmaier You should! I found it very easy to pick up

Thank you for explaining it properly! It's a clever way to end the game.

@@ShivanAngel15 That's really cool!
Alpha Clash 💪

Thanks! That's neat it goes back that far.
I didn't have to watch the video. As soon as I saw the Bunn it was an auto like.
(I watched it btw) :D
This is totally random - but any plans to sell the Stonemaier zip-up hoodie you’re wearing in this?
We are! This is our new ambassador hoodie--it'll be on our webstore most likely in late March.
@ Yes! 🙌
