      According to Dr John Newman, that "Just get me elected, I'll give you your damned war" comment was overheard in Dallas at Christmas/New Year 1963 as Johnson was talking informally to the Joint Chiefs.

    I will never forget as a child reading my mother's LIFE magazine she saved. Those pictures haunted me.
    What seals it for me is the picture after he was sworn in, where the congressman winks at Johnson. And you can tell Johnson is smiling right back...with Jacqueline right next to him. That was just a ruse to get her away from the casket.
    The very first thing LBJ did was reverse JFK's plan to get the troops out of Vietnam.
    Just the looks on their faces. Like the cat who ate the canary.
