The operation on files in the video, showing opening the picture in adobe camera raw and then saving as a psd for photoshop; compared to changing settings in lightroom Photoshop saves those settings in an XML file near the raw file. You don't need to save a PSD. The PSD you'll need when you do some very heavy processing and editing, beyond what lightroom can handle. But if it's localized dust removal, healing the options between PS and LR are identical, LR is ACR with a catalog.
I absolutely LOVE Lightroom. Just recently got LR4 and love it. I still use PS but just for certain things that Lightroom can't do, just as the video explains. Can't imagine being a photographer without Lightroom. Great video as always.
Thank you Mark, wonderfully clear explanation. Makes you wonder why Adobe don't somehow combine the two and sell it like that? Anyway, the best explanation I've heard so far on the differences between Photoshop and Lightroom.
Why are you comparing Lightroom to Photoshop ? Lightroom is Bridge and Camera Raw combined, and both of those are already in the Photoshop CS package so there is not much point to getting Lightroom if you already have PS. Lightroom also does not save you any more room then Bridge and CR, both of them save the previews and thumbnail, but one in catalogs while the other in cache exports and both can take up several gigabytes if not more (I used both so i know)
Thanks Mark! Another great video. Looking forward to the next 1 hour photo challenge Friday!!!

Wow, great stuff. Didn't know how convenient lightroom is. Will have to try it out.
Great job Mark!
Hi Mark! Question here:
What is a lens hood for, and why are they shaped differently?
Will you be doing an Aperture vs Lightroom video?

I've never been a fan of Bridge for some reason. Just never got into it... always used Photoshop without it. Love Lightroom though.
