Mr. Cornwell was a superior and thoughtful writer of realistic spy novels. I loved his work. He is greatly missed.

In fact, this brilliant Brit was so appalled by Brexit Britain that he decided to die an Irishman.

Cornwall….erudite, hugely sophisticated and deliciously urbane. A delight.

I've spent the last 3 weeks re-reading the le Carre back catalogue and I'd forgotten just how important his works are.
I never managed to read past page 50 of any Ian Fleming 007 fantasy novel. They were written for adolescent boys.

Thank you. The 2nd interview especially, as le Carré opens up about his early life & hostile relationship with his con man father, is moving - not to mention learning that his books were/are required reading in KGB (now FSB) training.

Wouldn't that be GRU? The GRU is the equivalent of Mi6 and CIA. FSB is like FBI.

We all had to do what was necessary and regretting the things we did is lesser than regretting the things we didn't.

Terry Gross is, beyond a doubt, the GOAT amongst interviewers living and dead, she simply cannot be bested. But in this first interview she seems maddeningly obtuse, to le Carré's obvious frustration and befuddlement. Terms like "In from the cold" and "mole" need no explanation outside of their own obvious contexts, those seemed like such amateur questions coming from a pro like Ms Gross. Still, wonderful to hear le Carré in his prime, RIP to a true legend.

Given how he describes his Father, he was almost certainly recruited.
Probably by someone who knew his Father.🎈

He called out the mercers for conspiring with Russian oligarchs for the overthrow our democracy, citing Cambridge Analytical.

What a load of utter crap. Cambridge Analytica is a UK state disinformation construct designed to invent BS accusations against the Russian state. Russian oligarchs in London are Mi5 assets and enemies of the Russian government.

Love to hear him speak but disappointed to hear ''as it were'' so often. It seems a condescending mannerism and a tool to be perceived as effortlessly superior.
