The point was he (Jesus) got to her in a way no man had, she is confused and working through her feelings. Its a brilliant song and moving song, with a powerful story line that most performers simply miss. Yvonne Elliman does the best version, because she gets the back story and was the original performer, but this is very good because Sinead also gets it. The tragedy is it gets sung as just another love song by most of those who perform it.
