    Dandong, formerly known as Andong, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Province, People's Republic of China. It is located at the confluence of the Yalu River and the Yellow Sea in the southeast of Liaoning Province. The city borders Dalian City in the southwest, Anshan City and Liaoyang City in the west, Benxi City in the north, and Sinuiju City, North Pyongan Province, Democratic People's Republic of Korea across the river in the east. It is located in the mountainous and hilly area of ​​Liaodong, with high terrain in the north and low terrain in the south. The Yalu River is the boundary river between China and North Korea. The Shuifeng Reservoir and Taipingwan Reservoir are built in the upper reaches. There are tributaries of the Yalu River such as Hunjiang River and Yihe River flowing through the city, and the Dayang River flows into the Yellow Sea in the south. The total area of ​​the city is 15,290 square kilometers, and the Municipal People's Government is located in Zhenxing District. Dandong is the intersection of the Bohai Rim region and the Liaoning Coastal Economic Zone. It is China's largest border city, a key development and opening-up pilot zone along the border and a coastal open city. It is the main land route connecting the Korean Peninsula with China and the Eurasian continent, the easternmost starting point of the Great Wall of China and the northernmost starting point of China's coastline.
