  • Latest update on Land Rover Defender ownership and daily driving now 2 years have passed, is it still a great car and should you buy one? Also it’s a rant video as a garage recently damaged my Twisted Automotive Wheels whilst in having some repair work. I also talk about the latest things that have gone wrong on the Defender 110 Utility 2.2 Puma during my ownership and more on what my next plans, modifications and upgrades are for the Defender. The central locking broke on the passenger door, the hinge on the drivers door has seized, and the clutch pedal isn’t just heavy it’s started squeaking now too. Still love it though…!
Whilst you’re reading this - Adrian Flux have offered my audience up to 15% discount on all insurance quotes when calling them for a quote on 0800 587 5431 and mentioning my channel ‘Al S’. Those center caps are fitted from the rear as far as im aware and are held in place by the wheel (like mine are with my weller 8 spokes). When we take a vehicle to the garage we THOUROUGHLY clean everywhere, we then take a video of the vehicle as we are leaving it with them (we make sure they see us doing it).. we also refuse to allow them to valet it for us.... the result is they take so so much care and they rectify any issues.
    Great channel and Defender.😉
sorry forgot to add, we always clean the grit from between the centercap and wheel before wheel removal and if there is any tiny specs in there we also clean inside the alloy rim before reassembly, this way we ensure they dont accidentally scratch them.

Sorry to hear that mate. It is a shame that it happened. Hope you had a chance to fix those rims up. Lucky it is something that is repairable. Those are great looking rims.

I had the squeaky clutch pedal spring too. Just swapped for a LOF Spring. Now quiet and a lot less effort required.

Think I'll be doing this to mine soon, especially given it lightens the clutch

Hi mate, another very watchable vid. Re the hubs/wheels, I totally get the frustration and have had similar in the past. Nothing more annoying than garages either not owning up to it when asked or coming forward beforehand…you’ve done the right thing…vote with your feet and let them lose your business! Grrrr! Oh, and cheers for the tip about A.Flux, just about to look into insurance for the ‘soon to be’ Def90. 👍. Keep up the good work Al S

It's a real shame when businesses allow their reputations to be blemished due to carelessness without correcting it. Bit like getting a bad haircut (long forgotten thought there ;) damage done & never going back. Keep up with your own good standards.

I came to almost expect it with main dealers, but not with specialist independent garages...

I would be inclined to insist that they repair the damage. It’s very frustrating especially when you take a pride in your Defender.

Make them repair the rims and pay for a car to rent while you wait for repair. Oh re squeeking clutch, could be retention spring

I used WD40 lithium grease on my clutch spring and pivot. Couple of applications and it hasn't squeaked since. Re. the hub damage. I'd fix it myself and move on. Leave it and it will annoy you every time you look at it, trying to get the garage to fix it as it will be a lot of stress and they will probably have a disclaimer somewhere in the small print.

If you want a different and cooler look on the twisted wheels, just remove the hubs and drive without them, looks a bit more aggressive in my eyes. :)

Seen a few like this, does look good actually. May try it next time I take the wheels off.

Squeaky clutch, my solution was I found it was the clutch linkage in the engine bay next to the break servo you have to unbolt a little cover and then get in there with some spray grease it’s fiddly but that stopped the squeak

Thanks Mark, I will check that out too although I'm convinced it's coming from a spring in the footwell!
