cannot imagine what it was like hearing this in '95. like some monolith dropped from space onto the hiphop community. really brilliant music, even the album cover exudes it.
It was the best memory making music for me back then wonderful memories dancing at the club's in D.C. until 2am then after hours with the boyfriend and a few others smoking a blunt and drinking a little beer relaxing in the hot tub on the roof of my apartment building
First time I ever listened was on Pandora around 08-09 and even then I felt like I was elevated to a new level of music. To only realize it was dated and a Dedue album. Crazy shit
I was listening to this back in 95. I was living in MO, USA. Like every weekend, we would put this record on a turntable. Very strange things happened while listening to this. We were 18 or 19 at the time.
My brother was a dj throughout my childhood. He endtroduced me to Dj shadow because it was his favorite. My brother is my hero and unfortunately passed away last year. Dj shadow will always remind me of him. Rest in Peace Jerry, I love you big brother.
For me the genius of early dj shadow if that it doesn’t sound like collage of samples, it sounds like all the parts were performed for the purpose of his tracks. Most other sample based music you can hear the seams, but dj shadow’s tracks everything blend perfectly, a lot of it reminds me more of 20th century classical composers like Philip Glass or Steve Reich than hip hop.
One of my favorite things about the album version is that it’s a single LP and the first side starts with Part 4 into Part 1 so it’s meant to be played in a recursive loop. Brilliant
I heard this for the first time in the late 90s and I remember being so floored that I put in on repeat while I slept that night. I could still listen to it every day...
Always a highlight for me on on the LP. 97 working in a factory. Dreaming of not being there. Friday afternoons playing pitch and put. 17 with so many things about to happen to me I never knew. I digress. Just nabbed the vinyl. Never knew it existed!
I can't recall when I started to listen to dj shadow, but when I heard pt 2, and really listened a few times through, I found that my mind could wander after a while of the repetitive beats and all I can say is I had an experience. This is what I put on in the dark and drift away to.
Every time I put this on I am back in 1995 looking forward to the future, but aware of the threats that were coming our way. This music really sums that up to me. Anybody who doesn't like this, or at least acknowledge its brilliance can never truly be my friend.
Top man, Luciano, massive respect. Good effort with the annotations as well as up-ing as one soundscape. Ever since the mid 90s I'd always wondered what pts 2 & 3 were like (and if they even existed/had been released). Guess the tracks are so dreamy that I've only just woken from my slumber to find out!! That and Nobody Speak ft Run the Jewels has got me back on a Shadow tip...! ps. Franchise - that's why it's still crucial to do the old fashioned crate digging like the great man himself...
I came here for the 15:00 My phone is dieing so I attempted to revive my very old mobile I had back in 2006 as a temporary replacement. I found a new battery for it online and turned it on today. I found this as a ringtone on it, used Shazam to find out what it was. Now I'm floating backwards in time to 2000s when life was very very different. It is nearly midnight... This music coupled with the stillness of the night and cool night air carrying the scents of early summer flowers is magic I've been missing in my life for quite some time. Thank you for the upload.
@@M00Nabove To be fair I've been missing some special moments like that in my life this last year. I moved to a city and don't have the same level of connection with nature that I used to. I'm doing ok though and I know I'll get back out of the city centre eventually, but I wouldn't mind saving up for a car one day to go out on trips... money is a bit of an issue though
Personally believe that part 2 is one of the greatest beats in all of Hip Hop. Takes me on a journey every time, so deep and the sample before the drop about gambling is so true.
this shit is so fucking timeless and a time machine all in one. this takes me back to being high af listening to dubbed copies of this tape on a car stereo bumpin on some kickers at night in the 90s. this was right up there with now is the time from crystal method, before they released a whole album. i can still remember where i was and what i was doing when i first heard both, kinda like a scene thats a painting in my minds eye.
Glory meet the Education of Sonny Carson, hanging out W Gladiator, Pink Floyd in the background mixed w John Coltrane & Splinter Cell1. Hint of Chili Peppers. In Memory of Billy Paul.
this sounds so good, i wish i heard about it sooner, at least before "that" mod, speaking of, dont think any of them are here yet, good this comment section deserves to be mostly clear of it
The city of my residence is affected by a hurricane... I would not have noticed but I had the displeasure of being informed. I knew it was going to rain.
Id play this in the car on the way to raves and nobody would exit the car until it was over. They claimed it would turn the car into a portal to another dimension

@@patochan4876 it has that ominous post-cold war heaviness to it, similar to god speed's F#. what happened?
"like some monolith dropped from space". Perfect metaphor for discovering Mo Wax back in the mid-90s. El-P did the same thing to me later.
My brother was a dj throughout my childhood. He endtroduced me to Dj shadow because it was his favorite. My brother is my hero and unfortunately passed away last year. Dj shadow will always remind me of him. Rest in Peace Jerry, I love you big brother.
some people will never understand the power this music possesses
Yeah true🤯
This dropped like a bomb in college back in 96. We all knew how special it was. The last part is the best. Masterpiece in hip hop production.
I hope Dj Shadow knows how much this means to us.
I am sure he does 😊
This was my 90s. DJ Krush, Mo’ Wax records, James Lavelle and a shed load of seeing all of these folks live. What a time in music.

A seamless Shadow…
This is totally the best stuff he ever put out! Overlooked classic in the Endtroducing canon
Just had a moment again to this while I was out choppin wood... Just so freaking good!.
One of my favorite things about the album version is that it’s a single LP and the first side starts with Part 4 into Part 1 so it’s meant to be played in a recursive loop. Brilliant
DJ Shadow...What a great modern composer.
probably the best instrumental hip hop tape ever released
The Goosebumps haven’t left since 1996
Listening to this since 1999 and still my favorite track of all time
+Wee'um Bishop It's a timeless track in many respects. It has been the same for me.
I heard this for the first time in the late 90s and I remember being so floored that I put in on repeat while I slept that night. I could still listen to it every day...
Amen. It is so beautiful....
Same.
heart and soul of hip hop right here
My friend and I used to go on about how magnificent DJ Shadow was and his songs, RIP Ezana. His music will always bring me back to you
I was born in 1981 and I will die somewhere within these tracks in 1995.
Short change yourself.
The first time I heard part 2, I put it on repeat for several hours. So damn transcendent.
Had the good fortune to see him live. Couldn't believe the venue was only half full. Great talent. Love this post. Thanks Luciano.
After attending thousands of shows over the past 25yrs, Shadow still up there with some of my most memorable gigs
I saw him at Output 10 years ago in Brooklyn. Was phenomenal
when the main melody of part 2 comes in... there's no turning back
I now understand everything..... and nothing.
the beauty of this album
And so it goes.
I found some Alan Watts, and am playing it over this track. =]
And so then, to remember... and forget.
I don’t understand anything anymore

Luciano you're a saint for posting all 4 versions together. My hard drive crashed with all of Shadows music.
I'm glad i've been able to make someone so happy like me when i found the four parts :)

I didn't know about Nobody Speak and the new album, now i've got some new shadow to hear. Sounds really cool, as always.
It's not complete without the Bloodstain though...

This is CRIMINALLY underrated DJ Shadow material!!!!!
just discovered today, and im in love with this mans craft
better late than never... it's like, Chaucer. it's that important.

The sample is from Johnny Get Your Gun. A truly terrifying piece of work. Watch it.
@@ianmyers883 funny, my Sons name is Jonny..
@@gregmiller7169 well there's your sign to read or watch it!
this is soul awakening music
Shadow evolved before he evolved. Mind painting gem🖤
I’ve worn my vinyl copy out from playing it so many times over the years. One of my first records too. Respect to the master.
Shadow's best work.
Thank you.
Yes, absolutely - it’s magnificent.
Man I remember when this came out. So amazing hearing this again.
All these years later, still the best and the one I listen to the most.
the amount of work that was put in this, wit hall the annotations and shit is incredible! Thank You!
+xwardeN Thanks, i first did it to myself, but i'm glad that you liked it :) (i forgot to put the lyrics in part I u.u)
Tripped acid alone, listening to this.. twice actually .. kinda irrelevant but nonetheless I never looked at life the same.
Have you experienced Terence McKenna? The Mushroom Speaks
Sounds relevant to me! And plenty others i'm sure. Pretty eye-opening stuff, both.
Hell yeah. This music definitely takes you there.
Im doing it tonight. Gathering some of the best albums and taking 200 mics. I hope it helps because im ruins. Don't fear the reaper.
Sound very relevant to me those are the moments that change our lives 👁
This will be my funeral song.
So much memories ... One of the best music I ever heared in my life ❤
THANK YOU! These need to be heard in sequence.
One my all time faves .
9:06 the piano notes and the scratch .. so subtil ... killer!

What pure perfection sounds like
Discovered this guy on MTVs 120 Minutes in '96. I've been a fan ever since.
I may be late to the party but this is exceptional. Thank you for your skill. Love this, can't get enough
Absolute classic
I love NIN
Shadow of the soul
I forgot how incredible part 3 is...
Track order hits me squarely in the feels.
It almost feels like I'm listening to Alan Watts!
Ahaha. Funny.
The best music from past time
Thank you very much from Russia, brother
timeless...
Still one of my fav samples from the '83 movie Brainstorm.
Tnx dude, best chill music

Never listened to it without the rest of the album, that's interesting.
My SOUL is red and heart-shaped.
I heard it the last time.

Especially love this part 3:52
00:00 Part II
13:50 Part III
19:00 Part IV
26:13 Part I (Blue Sky Revisited)
is this the right order ?
Yes, that's the original tracklist.
How it sifts down.
Why can't I find the part where it says "Does anyone remember who I am?"
My soul looks like building steam with a grain of sand...and sounds like 15:39
4 people haven't identified their soul.
still 4
only 5
Yep. 5 now.
15 lost souls by now!!
We're up to 18 unidentified souls now
A musical monolith
Not gonna lie, I came from a Riley Ried video looking for this song
lmao
Lmfao!🤣😂
