Doesn't work. Just tried it and no matter what it opens everything in facebook's garbage browser. If you click the 3 dots you can manually open a link externally but you have to do it every single time. The setting shown here does nothing.
I just started having this issue yesterday. It was opening links externally with no issues until then. My settings are still checked to open them externally, and I even rebooted my phone, but it isn't helping. It is going to piss me off if I have to manually change this with every post. Did yours ever get fixed?

@@risn3874 apparently you guys have Android phones. The option doesn’t exist on the iPhone app. Things like this are why I used FB only in the browser for years and I think it’s time to switch back.

As of October 2022, Facebook changed the app again, and made it more difficult to find the option to open links in the browser of your choice. It's still there. But Suckerborg keeps playing this same trick to get users to stay inside his walled garden.
the menü option is Hidden. You have to type in mqnuelm to the search settings bar : media Then you can see the option open external. After this i recommend to stop the auto update app.....No need for Updates.They doesnt give you more possibilitys.Exactley the oposit .They reduce freedome with every update.If ypu can roll back annold facebook app and szilopp auto update.We dont need to fallow the agenda.They hqve to fallow our will ,we are cosumers.SIMPLE ROLL BACK GOOD OLD WORKING VERSION.And stop update to new wrong ...

In Afilliiate marketing a lot of comissions are lost due to this issue. Do you have any solution here or any software or web interface between our afilliate links and customer's device browser? Does NOT work on my Samsung ZFOLD 3, nor on my Galaxy TabS6! IT DOES work on the PC, however it does NOT go to my preferred Firefox browser, instead it always goes to freaking MS Edge browser, yes I have Firefox set as my default browser on the PC. As others have mentioned FB has apparently removed the option "links open externally" in the Media section described. (iOS iPad 15.6.1 if that matters at all) I'm likely to remove the Facebook App altogether. Prefer using FB in my Safari browser completely.

Guys stop bashing the creator, he did a very good, at the time of the video, the solution was working perfectly. New solution: Open settings then Profile Settings > Settings & Privacy > Settings > Profile settings > Media and contacts > Links open externally Remember to restart when you done.
There is no Media and Contacts and no Profile Settings. There is only Profile Information and a Media category, none of which provide you the option to open links externally.
Yeah, I prefer to view videos in a browser because the Facebook android app sucks for video viewing. I use the app to find the videos, but then I prefer to copy the link and reopen in a browser. But when I go to the browser version of the video, anytime I click anywhere on it, it flips me right back to the shtty Android app. And this method doesn't stop it from doing that.

So they've changed the graphics and they obviously don't appear as they would on an apple but I did find this feature it did work although there's still stuff going on in the background that's slowing up my browser this directly related to the fascist programming thugs on Facebook and there will be a window that pops up saying blah blah you're about to leave Facebook with a continued or go back option I don't know if it just does that once or continuously but I use my brave browser function to block scripts when I was on their page so far it's not come back up. ✊🏾✊✊🏿✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽👍🏼

THIS DOESNT WORK ANYMORE. If you log out or switch accounts, the option automatically reverts back. Every. Time.

None of this exists now in the desktop version. I have to right click RUclips links and open in a new tab to watch them.
Had the same problem in Chrome but not when using Edge (which I hate!). It looks like it's a Chrome issue not a Facebook one.
