WTF, Stephanie? Your father in law STOLE that money from someone. It didn't rightfully belong to your daughter. Bernard Madoff hadn't made an honest dollar in years. The money Mark and Andy generated in the legitimate market making business was siphoned to help keep the fraud afloat.

I've read 15 books or more on Madoff, including this one and the one done by Andrew Madoff, Truth and Consequences. I'm convinced that neither son knew about the old man's scheme. History is full of people who committed terrible crimes and family and friends had no idea what was going on, Ted Bundy/Green River Killer, etc. good book though!

Madoff just reconfirmed my skepticism for those who choose to handle others' finances. The unfortunate suicide of his son, Mark, in and of itself was tragic, much less on the second anniversary of his father's arrest. I do believe that Madoff's sons did *not* know about the fraud. Tragically, the younger son, Andrew, passed away from mantle cell lymphoma in 2014.

The unfortunate suicide of his son, Mark, in and of itself was tragic, much less on the second anniversary of his father's arrest. I do believe that Madoff's sons did *not* know about the fraud. Tragically, the younger son, Andrew, passed away from mantle cell lymphoma in 2014.

So by that knowledge, and just my opinion that I did not elaborate earlier, I believe they are in better position than most people whose savings completely wiped off.
