The Hermes helmet is actually the most broken part in the whole series when you combine it with the Icarus Buster. You can pretty much span that massive laser beam all over the place and steamroll the whole game with it.
The helmet upgrade in X4 and the Nova strike from Ultimate armor in X8 are the 2 most broken things in megaman X series imo. And if you dont know , nova strike in X8 deal around 80% of boss hp bar and it by pass the phase change invincibility.
Nova Strike insta-kills nearly everything in the game (if you play on easy nearly every enemy can't resist a single Nova Strike, on normal or hard the bosses at least needs at minimum 2 Nova Strikes because the game forces you to let them trigger their rage phase before doing the few hits you need to do after that without a Nova Strike... for the most part they survive with 1HP, and of course, this is about X8 Nova Strike).
I know something had to come in last place for the X8 armor upgrades, but mixing the armors yields hilarious results. Hermes Helmet + Icarus Buster = Doom for everything in front of X. Running through a stage (Even faster with Hermes Boots) spamming the lvl 3 Charge shot (Not the Icarus Laser) which thanks to the Hermes Helmet, you reach near instantly is some pretty good fun.
I mean, when you had the idea to place more than 1 armor, and don't know how to select them so you make it into a different character instead. (What was done in X8 to solve it)
@@milesprower6110 On one hand, I "get" that it could be a problem, and I shouldn't assume that, just because it isn't for _modern_ games, doesn't mean it wouldn't have been in the past. Still, would it really have been too hard to handle it 20XX style? Armor pieces can mix and match *but* there's a big bonus from having a complete set? Or just make it so you can swap the _incomplete_ sets (but *not* mix and match...).
My own list: X1: Head Parts. Exists to give you the arm upgrade, which happens to be the one upgrade there are two versions of. X2: Head Parts. If the usage of a radar to find secrets is cryptic, it's not a solution at all! X3: Arm Parts/Chips*/Z Saber*. The new buster upgrade is quite a dud when compared to X2's, having an awkward way of triggering the special effect that isn't even that powerful if you actually get it to work. Chips are basically a trap to new players that don't know about the Golden Armor. And the X3 Saber is my least favourite ultimate weapon in the series. Firstly, the unlock method requires you to skip fighting the Goliath Armor (one of my favourite fights in the series) and then do something the rest of the gameplay has been hammering as not an option. Secondly, instead of having its own dedicated button or even subweapon option, it's a tier 4 charged shot that can only be used by shooting a charged shot three times. Speaking of which, despite being treated as another charged shot, it has a slower animation that can easily screw you over while fighting Kaiser Sigma. Which is yet another thing that annoys me about it, Kaiser Sigma is balanced around the Golden Armor *and* Z Saber, two permanently missable upgrades! X4: Rapid Fire Buster upgrade. This one isn't so bad because you can go back and replace it with a better arm upgrade. If only you didn't have to deal with a Web Spider puzzle every time you did. X5: Gaea Armor. Once again, I consider the Armors themselves to be the upgrades. The Gaea Armor is treated as the slow but powerful upgrade, but its many drawbacks make it fail in the latter. For example, you can't just not charge subweapons, you can't use them period. Also, while you can walk over spikes, every other instakill obstacle like lava or the Quick Man lasers (I wonder what kind of ability you'd need to get past these?) still kill you. X6: Shadow Armor. A much more useful upgrade, thanks to not losing speed and the level design in X6 having more spikes. The fact that High Max is given a different solution for this armor is a nice touch, but it's immediately offset by how the Secret Lab 2 X path is clearly designed around the Blade Armor's high mobility. The worst part is that this wouldn't have been so bad if beating High Max with the Shadow Armor sent you to the Zero path instead, but now you need to equip specific items back at base so you don't get stuck at Secret Lab 2 despite what the first half of the level implied would be the best option. X7: Skipped, but I can tell that the ability to attract items doesn't exactly warrant an armor upgrade and should've been a QOL instead. X8: Can't find a bad one this time around, helped by the Neutral Armor allowing you to just replace any specific parts you don't particularly like.
Agree with you, not to mention that in X7 the body part DOES NOT decrease the damage you take, you need to rescue enough reploids to let X have the damage reduce chip instead, the saber in X3 is treated as Lv.4 charge shot (or Lv.3 if you don't have the arm parts of the 3rd armor, and the dissadvantage of having a faster saber slash is that you cannot use it as a proyectile, and has less range compared to how Zero uses it... the damage is still pretty high anyway).
The Z saber in X3 is op combined with the immediate charged shot, tho. Once you've learned how to land hits with it, it's the best weapon in the game 'cause it allows you to kill all enemies with 2 hits. Plus, you don't need to be at full hp, which makes it even better than the hadouken or the shoryuken. It sounds more like skill issue to me. Honestly, the worst upgrade in mmx3 has to be the head chip because it takes too long when you could replenish energy by destroying enemies and it's only useful during the boss rush. Plus, it's worthless during the kaiser sigma fight, unlike the leg, the body or the booster upgrade. Btw, you can just use a password generator to obtain Zero's saber and still be able to defeat the Goliath boss fight.
I feel like you're not providing enough of an explanation on how the armor in X8 works. You have Nuetral Armor, and you can mix and match the Icarus and Hermes pieces. And if you take the entire set (Icarus or Hermes), you get a bonus ability.
I'd love to see a "most improved charged weapon" video. Not necessarily the best charged weapon, but the one that is the biggest upgrade from the base boss weapon.
I agree with you... just one thing I have to mention, X7's body part does NOT decrease the damage, it ONLY gives you the Giga Crush from X2, the damage decrease must be unlocked with the reploids (and even with the no damage decrease at LEAST it gives you SOMETHING you can actually use), a funny thing of X1... if you count it's remake Maverick Hunter X, Zero's buster upgrade is actually different, so you have to decide if you go for Light's OG upgrade or get the more powerful Zero buster instead.
Megaman X is why Tooterp is an advocate for not wearing helmets when participating in xtreme sports. Idk if he's ever advocated this, but the megaman x helmets aren't leaving a good impression for helmetkind
Most useful special weapon x1-x8? Not necessarily the best (it can be though), but which helps level progression the most, or has the most interesting effects to be used consistently throughout levels once you have it (taking charged weapons into account, too!)
I don't remember all of them but I do remember the charged version of Rolling Shield being completely OP. It's Jewel Satellite before there was Jewel Satellite, killing infinite weak enemies and blocking projectiles until you happen to hit something stronger. There's even a room right before fighting Sigma that lets you grind for health using this weapon!
The 4 shots burster from X4 is actually the best Buster upgrade... If you watch any speedrun of the game, they always Go for It, cause It has more DPS than the plasma shot
Or even better, ignore the upgrade completely, the game will forcefully give it to you after dealing with Vile in Sigma's Palace 1 (or Sigma's Palace 3 in Maverick Hunter X).

I only disagree with the X8 choice. Combining charging the buster faster with the Icarus Buster allows you to quickly shoot level 3 charged shots because it becomes level 2. You can break guards, melt bosses HP, easily get S ranks in Optic Sunflower's level, and speedrun everything much faster because your dps increases a lot. The triple buster shot is the worst one in my opinion. I'd rather use the Hermes armor with the Icarus buster (and lose the overdrive ability) than use the Hermes buster to complete the set.
Gaia Armor's buster Upgrade is actually stronger than the Falcon's Buster. Mainly cause it's fully charged almost instantly so you can spam it a full bust dealijg a whole lot of damage at a fast rate, eats up enemy projectiles so you have more defensive options besides dodging, and also is a wider shot so it's more of screen clearer so it's easier to bust out anoying crowds than with the Spear Shot. Also, the Plasma shot in X4 does have a disadvantage to the Stock Charge Shot. Not just cause you have to charge more often, but also cause the plasma ball the Plasma Shot leaves behind steals damage against bosses, making them I-frame to weaker hits than a full charge shot. Something you don't have to deal with at all with the Stock Charge Shot, which let's you hit the Bosses with the full might of your buster in-between I-frames without needing to pause. Not to say that the other options aren't good (although Plasma Shot does suck against bosses, it is a better grunt killer/screen clearer, while Falcon Spear Shot's piercing ability can be pretty useful) but you seem to completely miss out some details of decent armor parts, which is a shame overall.
Yeah I saw some speedrunners picking the Stock Charge shot in X4 over the Plasma shot and it was because that same reason. I think I've never picked that particular arm upgrade, as I like to blast lesser enemies with the huge Plasma shot, but one day I'll boot up my Megaman X Legacy Collection to try the 4 charge shot upgrade. I've also seen the Gaea Armor's buster upgrade in some boss speedruns.
@@CarliVala You also have to remember that the Stock Charge Shot is the closest of the two to get so speedrunners prefer to get that one because is the fastest one to get.
I actually like X7. It has some bad parts (like X being an unlockable character, the checkpoint between sigmas phases and... Flame Hyenard) but otherwise the stages and bosses are really fun.
The Zero Project rebalance of the buster upgrade is nuts, if the 2nd Armor buster upgrade wasn't already powerfull, the rebalanced upgrade really makes it justice.
You got it wrong you can use the head upgrade in 4 spots crazy there's a sub tank in flame mammoth's stage and I think some random bricks in storm eagles stage to get a 1 up or smth
wouldnt there be 9 armor parts for x8 cause you get the neutral armor to begin with when you enter the first armor capsule in that game?? then again hes not wrong the helmets do end up getting the short end of the shaft, i like the x3 fan hack with zero as the helmet actually had an unused feature of reducing weapon energy usage that was reenabled in the fan hack... and i thought i heard that the same feature was ment for x2 helmet armor but was never used, glad x4 gives infinite even tho x5/6 needed it more in there
It is a bit sad that helms end up being underwhelming on most of the X series but you gotta give the programmers some credit. Body armor, legs, and arms are easy to think up ideas for. Head not so much. X3 and X4 had the best ideas. I would have been ok with all X games Helms acting like the one in X3 tbh.
Honestly did the Hermes Head part dirty, that one paired with the Icarus Buster basically gives you the big chargeshot instantly a second into a charge, and the laser not a few frames later. Given the big buster's better for damage and the laser for breaking enemy shields, i'd say the actual worst part probably would be the Hermes Buster, since you already cover a large area by default with the mid-tier charge of the icarus buster + hermes head combo. Also literally the icarus head part only really serves a minimal purpose as the headbutt barely does much damage and is only ever used for one rare metal in the entire game.
you can actually switch around the arm upgrades in X4. You just need to revisit the capsule. But, yeah, X4 is great because I don't hate any of the armor upgrades. They're all useful (I just wish the special weapons in 4 were better. The plasma x buster essentially makes most weapons worthless).

If you're still looking for idea for the X games, you have best/worst stages, best/worst enemies, etc., but the X games do encourage exploration so maybe the best/worst locations for the armor upgrades, heart tanks, and energy tanks?
I'm pretty sure you can always change buster upgrade, when you want even if you change stage and come back later, I'd say the leg parts are the worst, you get a hover that is kinda useful but lasts very little if you move, and the airdash in the 32bit era of mmx is quite nerfed in comparison to x2 and 3, you don't keep the momentum in x4 onwards.
It can be safely said that the helmet X1 upgrade is the lamest ever. Honestly, any other upgrade is flashier, more crucial, makes sense conceptually, or present actual versatility. It would be one thing it you could break open numerous surfaces with it, but you pretty much mentioned it instead is used for two specific spots. I'll take the glide legs from X7 or any of the other head upgrades over the X1 helmet upgrade. The leg upgrades from X7 is boring to watch, but it giving X the ability to glide is still better than not having it at all. X2 helmet is not really given much to actually shine, but it does conceptually make more sense and could have potentially been made actually neat in a hypothetical Maverick Hunter X2. Especially if you could both bring up a map like in X3 (but not as vague as it is in that game) and also having an indication maker when you are in the specific area. X3 helmet is kinda useful, but the maps are not perfect. X4's helmet upgrade is basically overpowered. The nerfed version for X5's Falcon Armor still has some use (though you are forced to get all armor parts to see the benefit). Blade Armor helmet upgrade is basically the same. X5's Gaia Armor (conceptually cool, but never met its actual potential) helmet is almost as lame as the one in X1, but I still would rather move blocks. Shadow Armor helmet upgrade is certainly more beneficial than what the Gaia armor gave you; but it's not as crucial as the other Shadow Armor parts (not to mention like X5, X6 also forces you to get all parts first). X7's helmet upgrade can be basically be ignored in the long run, but being to draw in pickups seemed alright on paper. As for X8's Hermes helmet upgrade, it does certainly have its use, but does not have the same impact as any other upgrade in a genuinely good armor system.
Speaking you said about the Gaea Armor. I thought the leg upgrade is for moving bricks and head upgrade let's your shot charged quick.Y'know one charged.
X4 Multi-charge shot is actually faster than doing 4 charged shots... so uh. -SKILL ISSUE.- It primarily because, in X4, all bosses put up a burst shield if they take too much damage in a short time span. They render themselves fully invincible for a duration. This is meant to nerf Zero, so that you can't just infinite combo them. (But really, it's only the third slash that triggers the burst, hence Slash-Dash Cancel.) This affects players using the Plasma Shot. The remaining plasma ball is not gonna damage per-frame because the boss is immediately put on burst. So, it's no better than a regular charge shot. Also X5's Gaea Armor buster. Despite the lower range, it melts bosses. It has near-instant full charge that doesn't trigger i-frames. The giga attack for Gaea Armor also deals a boatload of damage but triggers boss i-frames after consecutive hits.
again, the falcon armor buster DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO CHARGE BOSS WEAPONS, its purpose is to break through shields and walls. By the way, why the mania of putting games like the Legacy Collection? The games are not made to be divided like this, they are their own entity, that separation is quite silly and unnecessary

Actually believe it or not the Gaia helmet doesn't let you move blocks, the LEG parts actually do that. And with nothing listed from Light that means the Gaia Armor Helmet DOES NOTHING, making it even worse.

Head Parts H is blatantly OP. I play Zero 3 and I usually use the faster charge speed helmet chip, which is pretty much the same thing as this head part. Faster buster charging is no joke. The worst armor part from X8 is probably Head Parts I. Sure, it's a complete upgrade to the First Armor's head parts considering it too can break certain blocks, but the attack never seemed like it got use out of me. If there's an enemy above me, I'd end up using something like Shadow Runner to take care of it. The Hermes' buster parts are also sub-par, but the ability to shoot up to 5 blasts at once with one attack feels insane, and allows for some cheap kills on some enemies. But don't get me wrong, both armors are very good and the mix-and-match system from X8 makes it insane too.
I actually liked X3 _because_ of the added challenge. But, Sigma’s final form hit box is still kinda bs. I wish that future entries had kept the up dash or gave X a double jump-the Falcon armor kind of over corrected X’s mobility and made platforming too easy.
If I could rank one as the overall worst Armor it’d have to be X7’s Glide Armor, with X5 Gaea Armor as a close second, at least it was optional and you could use the superior Falcon Armor (unless you want to grab every heart tank you needed to use Gaea for Spike Sections)
it not the most useful overall armor it obviously belong to Ultimate Armor it damage is slightly less than Gaia armor but the mobiluty and having an invincible dash is alway useful
I would fight you on how HORRIBLE of a design that X3 was. However, the Zero Project fixed that game but after I player that ver., I could no longer go back to the OG X3. J review of X3 was a prefect explanation on how backward of X3 design.
I am subscribed, and cannot wait until you get to the Mega Man X worst gimmicks. Topping my list would be rescuing the reploids in different levels in MMX6. I mean there are several that have certain upgrades and if one of those tentacle robots touches them and corrupts them, that upgrade is lost forever, unless you kill X off and start from your last save ( I lost my faith in the X series after this and did not play any after that travesty of a game) . In a close second is those levels you a forced in using a jet / bike rider and Squid Adler's level is the worst offender for this. If you are not immediately on point you die instantly. What is worse is you have to collect every last one of those electrical spheres to get one of the pieces of armor. A person can say "Git good!" , but that does not work here as the game is cheating you from the start.
The helmet upgrades from X1, X2, X5 (Gaea specifically, not Falcon) and X7 can go burn in Burn Rooster's Inferno stage for all I care, because they're utterly useless.
X1: Helmet X2: Helmet X3: Probably has the most useful armor upgrades (Shield/Helmet - And Golden Armor is OP), aside from the X-Buster. No objections here. X4: Probably the strongest armor in the series, so again, no objections X5: Gaia Armor: Everything lol - Falcon Armor: X-Buster, however the ability to fly is my favorite single armor upgrade in the series. X6: Blade Armor is solid enough and Shadow Armor is my favorite armor in the series. So, again, no objections
Wooow, picking the best part in X8 to be the worst. Head Part H is easily the best part of the 8. You could spam charge shots a lot, especially when combined with Arm Part I before reaching the laser part.

All the ultimate armors make him look like some kinda baby gundam starting around X3...too many flanges and horns and stuff to look solid or Mega-manly.
X3's buster upgrade is garbage. It makes Sigma's second phase 10x more difficult. I hate it. And I hate that most the upgrades and heart tanks are locked behind ride armors which you only unlock if you go to one specific level after getting another boss's specific weapon and find the main ride armor hidden away. You should just have access to any ride armors you have the module for. And the upgrade chips are annoying. 1 at a time is fine but why cant I swap them for each other or the gold armor? Also X3's Sigma's Fortress is probably the worst in the entire series. It's absolute bullshit and not fun or well designed at all.
X1: Dash is OBLIGATORY! YOU CANT GO TO LAUNCH OCTOPUS RIGHT NOW!!!! YOU NEED THE LEGS OR YOU WILL GAME OVER OVER AND OVER AGAIME! X4; The 4 C.S. is the best from the two, Sigma is way easier with those and have only buster run, even doh the normal buster is really good enough to do that, but having 4 charge shots to shoot whenever is BROKEN! x5: Love the arms for Gaea Armor! You can timing to take around 5 Full CS in a row with one charging time You ARE CRAZY and Sigma first and second forms ARE EASY!!!!!
Sorry I'm super late for these, but I know youtube likes it when people watch you videos weeks later, so good, right? The reason that people don't like mega man x3 is that the level design is just walk straight with no enemies or like 1 type of enemy for half of the stage, or blind drop into spikes at other spots. It wasn't as well thought out as the rest of the x games for the SNES for sure. I'd put it at #4 behind X2, X and X4, but a bit of a gap. There's also a big gap between X3 and x5 for me. X6 isn't good unless you speed run it, then it's god tier tbh. X7 is bad and I didn't even know x8 existed until this video. wtf? If x3 didn't have Neon Tiger it would probably still be 4th on my list but it would be like a 9/10 instead of 10/10 (x2 and x are 11/10) Dude, I'm with you 100% on the x4 thing, but apparently we are wrong, because in the speed run they use the 4 charge thing iirc because you don't have to charge so it saves time doing damage I guess. I never used it and thought it was stupid and I'm sad. Cognative Dissonance :( I don't really have a horse in the race for the later entries, but I'm glad people get to know your facts.
X3 improved the gameplay in every aspect - EXCEPT THE SPECIAL WEAPONS. X3 has TERRIFIC upgrades and layering and replay value, and even a moderately cool soundtrack with a few notable bangers in it. But those special weapons? THE MOST USELESS ONES EVER. (Except maybe X7 because nobody in their right minds is even playing X7, not because of the weapons themselves)
X3's weapon upgrade sucks. Megaman has to stop to fire which is embarassing, and when you do connect the cross charge shot, the game shits itself with lag and the payoff is non existant to minimal since the damage isnt any better, its just wider. X3 as a whole has a lot of just baffling design choices, from the bosses overwhelming focus on trying to run into you, to the weapons being pretty meh overall.

The worst armor upgrades from X5/6 are ALL OF THEM, because you have to collect all of them to be able to use any of them!
I can understand the lockout system in X5 for story reasons. However, that should have been ditched for X6.

There are mods/hacks that fix this now.

The worst part is that this wouldn't have been so bad if beating High Max with the Shadow Armor sent you to the Zero path instead, but now you need to equip specific items back at base so you don't get stuck at Secret Lab 2 despite what the first half of the level implied would be the best option.
X7: Skipped, but I can tell that the ability to attract items doesn't exactly warrant an armor upgrade and should've been a QOL instead.
X8: Can't find a bad one this time around, helped by the Neutral Armor allowing you to just replace any specific parts you don't particularly like.
Agree with you, not to mention that in X7 the body part DOES NOT decrease the damage you take, you need to rescue enough reploids to let X have the damage reduce chip instead, the saber in X3 is treated as Lv.4 charge shot (or Lv.3 if you don't have the arm parts of the 3rd armor, and the dissadvantage of having a faster saber slash is that you cannot use it as a proyectile, and has less range compared to how Zero uses it... the damage is still pretty high anyway).
The Z saber in X3 is op combined with the immediate charged shot, tho. Once you've learned how to land hits with it, it's the best weapon in the game 'cause it allows you to kill all enemies with 2 hits. Plus, you don't need to be at full hp, which makes it even better than the hadouken or the shoryuken. It sounds more like skill issue to me.
Honestly, the worst upgrade in mmx3 has to be the head chip because it takes too long when you could replenish energy by destroying enemies and it's only useful during the boss rush. Plus, it's worthless during the kaiser sigma fight, unlike the leg, the body or the booster upgrade.
Btw, you can just use a password generator to obtain Zero's saber and still be able to defeat the Goliath boss fight.
I feel like you're not providing enough of an explanation on how the armor in X8 works. You have Nuetral Armor, and you can mix and match the Icarus and Hermes pieces. And if you take the entire set (Icarus or Hermes), you get a bonus ability.
I'd love to see a "most improved charged weapon" video. Not necessarily the best charged weapon, but the one that is the biggest upgrade from the base boss weapon.

I agree with you... just one thing I have to mention, X7's body part does NOT decrease the damage, it ONLY gives you the Giga Crush from X2, the damage decrease must be unlocked with the reploids (and even with the no damage decrease at LEAST it gives you SOMETHING you can actually use), a funny thing of X1... if you count it's remake Maverick Hunter X, Zero's buster upgrade is actually different, so you have to decide if you go for Light's OG upgrade or get the more powerful Zero buster instead.
Megaman X is why Tooterp is an advocate for not wearing helmets when participating in xtreme sports. Idk if he's ever advocated this, but the megaman x helmets aren't leaving a good impression for helmetkind
It should also be pointed out that Zero will give you the buster upgrade in Sigma's Fortress if you fail to get it from the capsule.

Most useful special weapon x1-x8? Not necessarily the best (it can be though), but which helps level progression the most, or has the most interesting effects to be used consistently throughout levels once you have it (taking charged weapons into account, too!)
I don't remember all of them but I do remember the charged version of Rolling Shield being completely OP. It's Jewel Satellite before there was Jewel Satellite, killing infinite weak enemies and blocking projectiles until you happen to hit something stronger. There's even a room right before fighting Sigma that lets you grind for health using this weapon!
The 4 shots burster from X4 is actually the best Buster upgrade... If you watch any speedrun of the game, they always Go for It, cause It has more DPS than the plasma shot
But if you take that buster upgrade in X4, you have to listen to "tink tink tink tink" constantly when fighting bosses...

The blocks walling off the buster upgrade in X1 reset after a single death. There’s no reason to game over there if you mess up the jump.
Or even better, ignore the upgrade completely, the game will forcefully give it to you after dealing with Vile in Sigma's Palace 1 (or Sigma's Palace 3 in Maverick Hunter X).

I only disagree with the X8 choice.
Combining charging the buster faster with the Icarus Buster allows you to quickly shoot level 3 charged shots because it becomes level 2. You can break guards, melt bosses HP, easily get S ranks in Optic Sunflower's level, and speedrun everything much faster because your dps increases a lot.
The triple buster shot is the worst one in my opinion. I'd rather use the Hermes armor with the Icarus buster (and lose the overdrive ability) than use the Hermes buster to complete the set.

Gaia Armor's buster Upgrade is actually stronger than the Falcon's Buster. Mainly cause it's fully charged almost instantly so you can spam it a full bust dealijg a whole lot of damage at a fast rate, eats up enemy projectiles so you have more defensive options besides dodging, and also is a wider shot so it's more of screen clearer so it's easier to bust out anoying crowds than with the Spear Shot.
Also, the Plasma shot in X4 does have a disadvantage to the Stock Charge Shot. Not just cause you have to charge more often, but also cause the plasma ball the Plasma Shot leaves behind steals damage against bosses, making them I-frame to weaker hits than a full charge shot. Something you don't have to deal with at all with the Stock Charge Shot, which let's you hit the Bosses with the full might of your buster in-between I-frames without needing to pause.
Not to say that the other options aren't good (although Plasma Shot does suck against bosses, it is a better grunt killer/screen clearer, while Falcon Spear Shot's piercing ability can be pretty useful) but you seem to completely miss out some details of decent armor parts, which is a shame overall.
Yeah I saw some speedrunners picking the Stock Charge shot in X4 over the Plasma shot and it was because that same reason. I think I've never picked that particular arm upgrade, as I like to blast lesser enemies with the huge Plasma shot, but one day I'll boot up my Megaman X Legacy Collection to try the 4 charge shot upgrade. I've also seen the Gaea Armor's buster upgrade in some boss speedruns.
@@CarliVala You also have to remember that the Stock Charge Shot is the closest of the two to get so speedrunners prefer to get that one because is the fastest one to get.
As a KoF fan I'm really glad we all agree that if the Electric Flame Hadouken was in more X games then it won't be that bad.
I actually like X7. It has some bad parts (like X being an unlockable character, the checkpoint between sigmas phases and... Flame Hyenard) but otherwise the stages and bosses are really fun.

I'm still not that big on vanilla X3 charge buster upgrade. However, the Zero Project version is cooler than even the X2 charge buster upgrade.
The Zero Project rebalance of the buster upgrade is nuts, if the 2nd Armor buster upgrade wasn't already powerfull, the rebalanced upgrade really makes it justice.

You got it wrong you can use the head upgrade in 4 spots crazy there's a sub tank in flame mammoth's stage and I think some random bricks in storm eagles stage to get a 1 up or smth

It is a bit sad that helms end up being underwhelming on most of the X series but you gotta give the programmers some credit. Body armor, legs, and arms are easy to think up ideas for. Head not so much. X3 and X4 had the best ideas. I would have been ok with all X games Helms acting like the one in X3 tbh.
Honestly did the Hermes Head part dirty, that one paired with the Icarus Buster basically gives you the big chargeshot instantly a second into a charge, and the laser not a few frames later.
Given the big buster's better for damage and the laser for breaking enemy shields, i'd say the actual worst part probably would be the Hermes Buster, since you already cover a large area by default with the mid-tier charge of the icarus buster + hermes head combo. Also literally the icarus head part only really serves a minimal purpose as the headbutt barely does much damage and is only ever used for one rare metal in the entire game.
you can actually switch around the arm upgrades in X4. You just need to revisit the capsule. But, yeah, X4 is great because I don't hate any of the armor upgrades. They're all useful (I just wish the special weapons in 4 were better. The plasma x buster essentially makes most weapons worthless).

If you're still looking for idea for the X games, you have best/worst stages, best/worst enemies, etc., but the X games do encourage exploration so maybe the best/worst locations for the armor upgrades, heart tanks, and energy tanks?

I'm pretty sure you can always change buster upgrade, when you want even if you change stage and come back later, I'd say the leg parts are the worst, you get a hover that is kinda useful but lasts very little if you move, and the airdash in the 32bit era of mmx is quite nerfed in comparison to x2 and 3, you don't keep the momentum in x4 onwards.
It can be safely said that the helmet X1 upgrade is the lamest ever. Honestly, any other upgrade is flashier, more crucial, makes sense conceptually, or present actual versatility.
It would be one thing it you could break open numerous surfaces with it, but you pretty much mentioned it instead is used for two specific spots.
I'll take the glide legs from X7 or any of the other head upgrades over the X1 helmet upgrade. The leg upgrades from X7 is boring to watch, but it giving X the ability to glide is still better than not having it at all. X2 helmet is not really given much to actually shine, but it does conceptually make more sense and could have potentially been made actually neat in a hypothetical Maverick Hunter X2. Especially if you could both bring up a map like in X3 (but not as vague as it is in that game) and also having an indication maker when you are in the specific area.
X3 helmet is kinda useful, but the maps are not perfect. X4's helmet upgrade is basically overpowered. The nerfed version for X5's Falcon Armor still has some use (though you are forced to get all armor parts to see the benefit). Blade Armor helmet upgrade is basically the same. X5's Gaia Armor (conceptually cool, but never met its actual potential) helmet is almost as lame as the one in X1, but I still would rather move blocks. Shadow Armor helmet upgrade is certainly more beneficial than what the Gaia armor gave you; but it's not as crucial as the other Shadow Armor parts (not to mention like X5, X6 also forces you to get all parts first). X7's helmet upgrade can be basically be ignored in the long run, but being to draw in pickups seemed alright on paper. As for X8's Hermes helmet upgrade, it does certainly have its use, but does not have the same impact as any other upgrade in a genuinely good armor system.
Speaking you said about the Gaea Armor.

X4 Multi-charge shot is actually faster than doing 4 charged shots... so uh. -SKILL ISSUE.-
It primarily because, in X4, all bosses put up a burst shield if they take too much damage in a short time span. They render themselves fully invincible for a duration.
This is meant to nerf Zero, so that you can't just infinite combo them. (But really, it's only the third slash that triggers the burst, hence Slash-Dash Cancel.)
This affects players using the Plasma Shot. The remaining plasma ball is not gonna damage per-frame because the boss is immediately put on burst. So, it's no better than a regular charge shot.
Also X5's Gaea Armor buster.
Despite the lower range, it melts bosses. It has near-instant full charge that doesn't trigger i-frames.
The giga attack for Gaea Armor also deals a boatload of damage but triggers boss i-frames after consecutive hits.
Hyper Golden Armor >>>>> Ultimate Armor
again, the falcon armor buster DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO CHARGE BOSS WEAPONS, its purpose is to break through shields and walls.
By the way, why the mania of putting games like the Legacy Collection? The games are not made to be divided like this, they are their own entity, that separation is quite silly and unnecessary

Actually believe it or not the Gaia helmet doesn't let you move blocks, the LEG parts actually do that. And with nothing listed from Light that means the Gaia Armor Helmet DOES NOTHING, making it even worse.

The Gaia Armour’s Buster is not a Nerf, it actually has a pretty quick charge time. But the Giga attack it has is op.
I wish one day, in Megaman X, we get to use the Tatsumaki Senpukyaku from Joy Mech Fight.
Head Parts H is blatantly OP. I play Zero 3 and I usually use the faster charge speed helmet chip, which is pretty much the same thing as this head part. Faster buster charging is no joke. The worst armor part from X8 is probably Head Parts I. Sure, it's a complete upgrade to the First Armor's head parts considering it too can break certain blocks, but the attack never seemed like it got use out of me. If there's an enemy above me, I'd end up using something like Shadow Runner to take care of it. The Hermes' buster parts are also sub-par, but the ability to shoot up to 5 blasts at once with one attack feels insane, and allows for some cheap kills on some enemies. But don't get me wrong, both armors are very good and the mix-and-match system from X8 makes it insane too.

I actually liked X3 _because_ of the added challenge. But, Sigma’s final form hit box is still kinda bs.
I wish that future entries had kept the up dash or gave X a double jump-the Falcon armor kind of over corrected X’s mobility and made platforming too easy.
If I could rank one as the overall worst Armor it’d have to be X7’s Glide Armor, with X5 Gaea Armor as a close second, at least it was optional and you could use the superior Falcon Armor (unless you want to grab every heart tank you needed to use Gaea for Spike Sections)

I would fight you on how HORRIBLE of a design that X3 was. However, the Zero Project fixed that game but after I player that ver., I could no longer go back to the OG X3. J review of X3 was a prefect explanation on how backward of X3 design.
But the best Helmet upgrade in MegaMan ever is... the Metool helmet from MM7's opening sequence!

I am subscribed, and cannot wait until you get to the Mega Man X worst gimmicks. Topping my list would be rescuing the reploids in different levels in MMX6. I mean there are several that have certain upgrades and if one of those tentacle robots touches them and corrupts them, that upgrade is lost forever, unless you kill X off and start from your last save ( I lost my faith in the X series after this and did not play any after that travesty of a game) .
In a close second is those levels you a forced in using a jet / bike rider and Squid Adler's level is the worst offender for this. If you are not immediately on point you die instantly. What is worse is you have to collect every last one of those electrical spheres to get one of the pieces of armor. A person can say "Git good!" , but that does not work here as the game is cheating you from the start.
The helmet upgrades from X1, X2, X5 (Gaea specifically, not Falcon) and X7 can go burn in Burn Rooster's Inferno stage for all I care, because they're utterly useless.

X3's buster upgrade is garbage. It makes Sigma's second phase 10x more difficult. I hate it. And I hate that most the upgrades and heart tanks are locked behind ride armors which you only unlock if you go to one specific level after getting another boss's specific weapon and find the main ride armor hidden away. You should just have access to any ride armors you have the module for. And the upgrade chips are annoying. 1 at a time is fine but why cant I swap them for each other or the gold armor? Also X3's Sigma's Fortress is probably the worst in the entire series. It's absolute bullshit and not fun or well designed at all.
I also don't HATE X7. I just like other games more.

The reason that people don't like mega man x3 is that the level design is just walk straight with no enemies or like 1 type of enemy for half of the stage, or blind drop into spikes at other spots. It wasn't as well thought out as the rest of the x games for the SNES for sure. I'd put it at #4 behind X2, X and X4, but a bit of a gap. There's also a big gap between X3 and x5 for me. X6 isn't good unless you speed run it, then it's god tier tbh. X7 is bad and I didn't even know x8 existed until this video. wtf?
If x3 didn't have Neon Tiger it would probably still be 4th on my list but it would be like a 9/10 instead of 10/10 (x2 and x are 11/10)

You can actually stop the video at 4:20 - the X1 Helmet upgrade is the worst upgrade in "MegaMan X-X8" right there.
X3 improved the gameplay in every aspect - EXCEPT THE SPECIAL WEAPONS.
X3 has TERRIFIC upgrades and layering and replay value, and even a moderately cool soundtrack with a few notable bangers in it.
But those special weapons? THE MOST USELESS ONES EVER. (Except maybe X7 because nobody in their right minds is even playing X7, not because of the weapons themselves)
Hardest stage in each megaman x game or the most annoying spikes area
X3's weapon upgrade sucks. Megaman has to stop to fire which is embarassing, and when you do connect the cross charge shot, the game shits itself with lag and the payoff is non existant to minimal since the damage isnt any better, its just wider. X3 as a whole has a lot of just baffling design choices, from the bosses overwhelming focus on trying to run into you, to the weapons being pretty meh overall.
Please include Xtreme and Xtreme 2 in lists if applicable
