The kenwood gps antenna is needed because they use the kenwood gps antenna if signal is good, if it's not, they activate the smartphone antenna. Check gps logo on android phone, if you drive into a tunnel it's going to be active, otherwise not. This to save battery when the phone in connected wireless and it's not charging then

Never bought a kit, I bought 2 units from Lithuania on eBay, butchered them and my stock unit, made 3 versions before final of abs welded and carbon fiber covered bezel/ controls. After this, I learned all the kits used on LH drive cars don't line up right. They do if you cut the abs from 2 units, and fuse them together.

There's one wire from the Axxess that I can't quite figure out where it will need to go before opening everything up - seems like it needs to connect to the i88 connector but I'm not clear on what the other connections on that are.
I have an 05 XT Limited without steering wheel controls. This looks too complicated for my DIY ability. Hopefully it doesn’t cost too much to get it installed

My only remaining concern is how does the new Kenwood head-unit sound, in comparison to the HK head-unit, now that the Harmon-Karmen system is history !?? Does it sound better !? Are the sound controls on the Kenwood better than the HK !? I ask simply because the HK system was matched-up to the Amp under the seat & for an OEM sound-system, it sounds excellent. Especially the Mid & Bass levels & their controls ! The Kenwood is NOT matched up to the amp under the passenger seat. I guess I need to check the Kenwood DMX906S' spec's out & compare to the OEM HK head-units spec's to see how they match up. I NEED a good sounding system ! And these Harmen-Kardon head-units set a great sound-standard for an Outback for Gods sake, and are hands down excellent sound quality for being an OEM head-unit in a Subaru Outback ! (Limited) So, I definitely don't want to go down in sound quality by installing this same Kenwood head-unit. So, it sure would be nice to hear back from you. I did this a long time ago but I still have this car (270000mi so getting to the end) . Buying Japanese market parts from a Japanese vendor that ships to US was the trickiest part.

@@rmcustom9573 CDs are in the past. We recently took all of out CDs to Good Will. I saved some hard to find stuff as audio files. This is fun to think about, I was a child when vinyl started being replaced by reel to reel tape (my parents had both) and now the CDs are gone. We live in fun times, so many people were born and died with a stone ax!

The climate switch and faceplate is a Subaru part - G3017AG01 Climate Switch. This was for Japan Domestic Market only and I had to order it from a Japanese vendor with an English website that shipped here. The Kenwood to Subaru harness was made by a shop that no longer exists but these are available from Car audio shops.

I found the double DIN adapter kit that you purchased. I only want to install that and have the ability also of putting a double din stereo in my car. Do I need any special type of adapter or wire harness to be able to get this lower portion (climate control new unit) to work with what was originally in the car? If I do can you guide me where I need to go to get that harness?
I got the exact same setup but My Kenwood climate control Adapter doesn’t work on my car at all. Plugs in properly but screen won’t even turn on and none of the controls do anything. Anyone have any ideas why?? 2006 Subaru Outback - dual zone climate control.
Yes it does work. That Axxess ASWC really does detect the car and head unit on first power-up and self programs. It signals all that via LED blinks. Kenwood is different from other brands on how it connects to Axxess box with a single wire. Other brands have a dedicated remote control connector.

I can see someone with CAD skills and a 3-D printer being able to put any unit in any car.
I did this on my 2007 Outback Limited a number of years ago.
The New 1.6 Firmware will activate wireless Carplay without VSS connected.

I was amazed at how well it worked, and it instantly switched t Farenheit too. I Wonder if you climate switch is defective.
How has the high mounted reverse camera faired? Does it get dirty?
I would say it’s better than the lower mounted camera on my newer car, that back of station wagons does get dirty from the airflow pattern back there
