Not that I worshipped her or anything but I used to like Bette Midler. Then I worked on a film with her and she, her assistant and her husband were such aholes. I also later encountered her husband when he was at AFI and he had not changed, still an ahole. A lot of actors, professionally, can turn on a character like throwing a light switch but with some it's a real Dr.Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde kind of thing and discerning a garden variety egomaniac (which Hollywood is full of) from someone truly psychotic is an extremely useful skill. I had the displeasure of working with one such. In retrospect, I'm pleased that I parted ways on my own terms but was treated poorly by the people sucking up to him. The guy in question later murdered his wife, daughter, tried to run off with his sons and then later killed himself. It's one of the more minor Hollywood cautionary tales. if curious, look up Aziz Ghazal.
So long as these people consistently generate revenue for producers, the bad behavior of these "stars" will continue to be tolerated, and said stars know that only too well. Only if a star's behavior causes lost revenue or serious legal troubles (like Alec Baldwin for instance) will the money folks take any action to try to reign in the a-hole stars.

@Abby Sands He likely watched people for a minute before choosing and chose people smaller than him, people who looked like they wouldn't fight back, etc., just to try and make the odds that he wouldn't get his butt handed to him and to better the chances of him winning and/or scaring someone so much they wouldn't go to the police either.

I met Dustin Hoffman during shooting of Rainman in Kentucky. He was very nice to the hospital staff when he was taken there after getting hurt during filming.
I worked as an extra on a mini series tv show that had a fairly decent budget. I was only being paid $14 an hour as an extra but it was a great experience, the only crappy thing was seeing how egotistical other extras were. Even though they hadn’t even been in a starring role they acted as if they were Hollywood royalty. It was ridiculous honestly, I can see why you need a thick skin and a good support system to stay grounded in that world though. Too easy to get swept up in it all.

I believe that Hoffman once said that he treated Streep badly from the start because he wanted her to genuinely hate him in order to help the movie. I don't know if that's true or if Hoffman was just trying to cover up for his misbehavior.
That's why we don't look to these people for our moral compass and don't need to envy them. Enjoy their movies; appreciate their talent; but unless their actions show character outside of work, leave it at that.

I can't say that it's how he ran the show. Yes, most of the men from the original cast became so awful to work with the they've become unhireable. (Wes Anderson must have magic powers over Murray). There is always another side to the story, but in videos like this they won't tell it, because it would make their version less sensational. Everyone wants to believe the worst. And frankly, much depends on what timeframe these stories come from. In March of 2022, the bar for what is or is not acceptable or "offensive" has been lowered considerably in our "woke", "ultra-PC", "thin skinned", "cancel culture" world. I take stories like the ones in the video with a couple of pounds of salt. I would also add that everyone, even high paid Hollywood actors/actresses have bad days. We are all allowed those.
She was probably friendly to her White costars. Surprised that she was given the opportunity to work and do love scenes with Idris Alba playing a woman obessed with him considering she is racist toward Black males and her horrible behavior on Heroes.
Some actors can be good at their job, but nightmares to work with, or beloved for the roles they play, but you wouldn't want to know them in real life. People shouldn't put them on pedestals, because we never know the real them, especially when their careers depend upon a persona. Especially, when they forget what being humble means, and they forget what it was like for them, before power and ego became their life.
Hoffman rumors started long before 2017. that was part of the joke in Tootsie that he played an actor who couldn't get work because no one wanted to work with him.

Exactly. They were 2 very different kinds of entertainers and while I love Jim Carrey, he was a lot to handle back then. I would have gotten annoyed with him also, especially if my character is much more sinister and serious and I've got this guy trying to break my character constantly.
@@evepane2925 I guess if you hear a joke one too many times, it ceases to be funny. Tommy Lee Jones seems like the type of actor who would want to get on with the job at hand, but gets irritated by the class clown. That's no excuse for being mean, however. Or being "childish and impossible" (Joel Schumacher's assessment of Val Kilmer). The only true professionals from the cast of main characters seem to be Nicole Kidman and Chris O'Donnell, who both wisely waited until enough time had passed to reveal the truth about Val Kilmer.
I think most people who grew up with and watching Jim knew his silly side that he always wanted that attention and did things trying to make people laugh, just based on the bloopers to his shows and movies. And Tommy im guessing got fed up with that really quick. So I agree, i havent heard of Tommy being a bad person over his movies by anyone other than Jim and on that movie. I've dealt with sexual harassment a lot in my lifetime, starting when I was around 3 or 4, it was nu&% pics taken of me at gunpoint as the guy stole my father's pistol. Ikr I had goosebumps when she said 'lovable'
This is why they say "Never meet your heroes, they'll only disappoint you."
Amen to that
Not that I worshipped her or anything but I used to like Bette Midler.
Or maybe we should face the truth, grow and evolve to have healthier heroes?
I still have a couple of heroes left - Michael J. Fox & Rick Astley, never heard anything bad about them, thank god!
Duh. Stop trying to sound wise.
And then there is Keanu Reeves. What a difference! 😍
One of my favorite actors and very humble for all the success he's had
Or the Rock!
Aah, Keanu 🥰 such a beautiful human.

All of this is 90% the fault of the people in charge. The stars should have been fired and blackballed ASAP to make them an example.
Believe none of what you hear & half of what you see. And don't be a fucking wimp.
What makes you think the people in charge weren't even more abusive than them?
why is it there fault? they arent doing it,people should be adult and proffesional enuf to not be rude or annoing, blaming the people in charge for what others do is just silly,my boss isnt responsible for what i do,i am but its true that people in charge have the responsability to take charge and it only helps if everyone calls out the person thats the problem.

Uggggg!!! I would not last on any set with people like that, unless those in control of hiring and firing refused to fire me, because I would be telling every one of them off, verbally putting them in their place and standing up for anyone being yelled at, cussed at, sexually harassed, and any other things of the sort. If they then decide to get physical and try to take their anger and tude out on me I would block them and give them about 1 minute to stop before I would gently , hopefully help them decide to stop.
IF they want to be jerks to people who are doing anything and everything for them, then those people would be allowed to go get themselves what the jerk wanted but bring the jerk nothing until they (the Jerk) get the point. The vast majority of them were taught not to behave like that so what in fall and winter makes them think they can behave the way they do to others???? It is uncalled for and unmerited!!! Hell NO!!!
Basically, I won't need to get physical to get the point across, just use some tough love techniques, one of which is to put a full-length mirror in front of her so she can see all she does!!!

Bad phrasing and a lame attempt to connect the story to a film. Apparently the incident happened while _The Searchers_ was being filmed. Nothing to do with the film itself...

TBH, a little bit of Jim Carrey goes a LONG, LONG way.
I think most people who grew up with and watching Jim knew his silly side that he always wanted that attention and did things trying to make people laugh, just based on the bloopers to his shows and movies. They could have just said "in 1955" and it wouldn't have looked odd to anyone that has actually seen the movie. I was simply pointing out that I doubt Lana Wood would say it in a way that made it look questionable...

Yes it is
Ummm.. I think you confused some.of Michael Douglas's movies with his dad's. He couldn't have been in movies from the 50s as an adult.. he was born in 1944.
Yes that's supposed to be Eric Douglas. Michael's father.

Jamie Lynn Spears treated her co-star Alexa Nikolas like trash.
So many of these actors and entertainers start believing their press releases about how wonderful they are, believing that they carry the project single handedly and they have contempt for all the other contributors. They think the women are thete for their pleasure. It's like the show they're doing about Playboy. Hugh Hefner made it seem like he helped with the sexual libetation of women, when in fact he used them for hisvoen and his friend's pleasure. He had cameras everywhere filming actors, actresses, politicians and anyone else with power having sex, which he would later use to blackmail them if they moved against him. He covered up rapes of women by Bill Cosby, Don Cornelius, and so many others. The saying goes, "The biggest trick the devil pulled is by tricking people into believing that he doesn"t exist".
Great research! Thanks for the info!
Could you do a video on the easiest actors to work with and who treated their co stars well.
Lea Michelle certainly did not surprise me. What a horrible woman. Kirk Douglas definitely surprised me. Never knew he was abusive towards Doris Day. Sometimes you always learn something new. Thank you for sharing.
I think it would be a Video, just about Keanu Reeves lol

@@roxy5588 yeah i agree with that list , except Hanks, Watson, de Nero, John Wayne, Charlie Chaplin and Dean Martin.
Im named after one of these People so i take no joy in pointing it out. But from links to the Mob , links to Epstien's Island (being kiddy fiddlers), and being close friends with Weinstein , and 2 just being massive pricks , and one man hating feminist, those few i pointed out should never be on one. Ever.
I can forgive Watson for her attitude , you'd hate men too if your countries major Newspaper had a countdown until you were 'legal' ie, 18 ....... So yeah ill give her a pass for her attitude.
And Dean Martin , well he had friends that were mobsters , so not a good look , these D,Bags literally murder people. But doesnt mean he did anything with them but still , looks shady as shit.
And Charlie Chaplin was a known nonce , he groomed his wife when she was around 11 or 12 ..... just messed up. (Elvis did the same , but Lisa was 13) And dont even get me started on Tom Hanks and Epstien and Weinstein (btw love all his movies , so i hate that he was close friends with both predators), Hanks is on the Epstien flight log books just as many times as Bill Clinton and Bill Gates - and yes! that's why Bill Gates wife divorced him, she found out about it)

I just found an Ali Larter DVD. I threw it in the garbage right away
You made the right decision. She's known to be Racist to Asians as well.
What we need to learn about ourselves is that we are all pretty bad. Even when we are trying to be good, we are pretty bad. We should not be surprised to discover people are bad. That's not news. Of course they are. And most of the time they do not see it. What is surprising is when people are actually good. Sometimes it happens.
Old strategy
Put others down so that they staY on top
Its a weakness
Sad to hear Ali Larter was that way to Heroes’ co star.
Ali is a known Racist. She hates Asians as well.
So how did Hoffman & Murray get along
(or not) when they were in "Tootsie"?
Don`t think Murray would have spent much time on the set, he doesn`t have many lines in that movie.
So, are we just going to skip over the fact that they filmed a rape scene without telling the actress it was going to happen....
When Daniel Day-Lewis worked in Let There Be Blood, he should have asked everyone to call him: "Chews up the scenery."
Dustin Hoffman also slapped Meryl Streep right before the scene where she was leaving him. Her reaction was genuine.
I'm not sure why no one every mentions this, but Richard Dreyfus has said that Bill Murray was a drunken bully on the set of "What about Bob?"
Perhaps true, but Dreyfus is no prize himself - So why would anyone listen to one jerk complaining about another jerk?
@@_XR40_ Exactly. Chase and Murray had a fistfight backstage at SML, and Dreyfuss has a bad rep too. Quite a little group there

Kirk Douglas was not in the movie The Searchers.
Chevy Chase absolutely disgusts me amongst so many other disturbing revelations of other actors, some I wasn't surprised, it's such a shame.
As a man who has been the victim of abuse of many kinds the fact you had to mention "tactics of abusive men" is hurtful and sexist, gender doesn't play a part there people are just toxic in general it it ends up creating more stereotypes about gender and downplaying what others face.
🙄
Well, if you're not an abusive man, why would that bother you? It's true about abusive men and it's good to mention this publicly. And yes, abuse toward men needs to be addressed publicly as well.
@@missylou725 You have worded that in such a way that most replies I could make can be shot down, point is use the word "toxic PEOPLE" as if the word men in particular is used it generates stereotypes in peoples minds, I mean people complain when theres auto assumptions about women so this should be no different in getting those stereotypes/assumptions stopped.

My dad called Marlon Brando a big sissy. And no, it wasn't a homosexual put down. Back in the later 30's and early 40's, a sissy was a man who was constantly afraid. My dad was a champion boxer and tended to judge other men by their physical prowess. BTW - before anyone claims that their dad's opinion of Brando was equal to my dad's opinion....... Francis Brando, Marlon's sister, was my dad's high school sweetheart.

Agree. Creating a hostile work environment is just as bad as directly insulting others
Don’t forget Wesley Snipes, Val Kilmer, And Mike Myers
The Chevy Chase one isn’t surprising. He recently and basically said how he doesn’t care he treated people like garbage. I’ve lost a lot of respect for that man and he always came off as a total jerk.
Lea Michele doesn’t surprise me either. I remember the stories about her being toxic and mean to costars and this just proves how much of a jerk she is.
Whats a common tactic for abusive women??? Bills a man so hes wrong

Does she not know what that means?
Read that the old time director John Ford used to verbally abuse his actors sometimes changing whipping boys each day. John Wayne and Ward Bond were two subjects yet they were on Ford's yacht boozing it up and partying! Once Ford socked Henry Fonda (during "Mr. Roberts) right in the mush with Henry saying he was more embarrassed than hurt - Ford apologized but things were never the same between them. Wild times.
Somewhere I read that he socked Maureen O’Hara.
Well, Steven Seagal was such a talent so you have to understand.
