It undoubtedly would have been misunderstood. Today everything has to be 100% literal or the kids won't get it. Most people back when this song was new realized the lyrics were really about doing drugs and it had an ironic interpretation of it. Irony, subtext and humor are dead concepts for today's listeners so if this song came out today most would honestly believe it's just some "party song" with "silly lyrics" which means nothing.

San Andreas came out when my mates and I were just starting HighSchool and went different directions and had to become men so we stopped gaming but now we made great lives we can go back and relive and experience more!!
