Behold the Earthquaker Devices Palisades, the final word in Screamer-based overdrive pedals. Earthquaker swore years ago that they would never make a Tubescreamer clone, but when they decided the time had come to break their promise, they vowed to break it in a most spectacular fashion. The Palisades absolutely exhausts every possible 'screamer mod in one pedal, with popular, time-tested options like a switchable input buffer, brightness switch, and built-in boost, as well as the innovative addition of dual rotary switches -- "Bandwidth" for changing the value of the input cap, and "Voice" for controlling the clipping diode configuration. These rotary switches exponentially increase the Palisades' voicing and drive possibilities far beyond anything yet conceived of. But we're not done yet - Earthquaker also added footswitchable A and B gain channels and footswitchable boost, elevating the possible tonal combinations available on the Palisades to a positively mind-boggling 480!
One of my favorite bands of all time is Andy from Pro Guitar Shop!
No Argument here. We all love this guy.
Yep he makes it sound right and real no doubt.
Yeah, I never do a gig without that on my pedalboard
Dude can play almost anything.
Andy the Demo God!
Nailed that Foo fighters tone!
Sahil Mehta i was totally thinking "jeez how lame. Theyre just pulling tracks off the ff album now" the andy popped up and i was like wtf
Best Foos tone I've heard.
cause its generic
There goes my hero, Andy. I always watch him.
Aim for the bushes
You can tell andy is really good at making a pedal shine, when you notices how he changes his playing and pickup configuration when demoing the bandwidth modes so it doesn't sound so muddy with more bass.
just bought this last night. easily the best pedal I have ever owned.
Andy, that FF tone is spot on. You really have a way of making every pedal you demo shine, nice work!
Oh!! Paul Rudd really nailed it!! what an amazing and beautiful tone,I really, really need this...
WOW! Earthquaker Devices sure knows how to do it right!
PJ ! you always are busting out the right riffs for the right situations
2:24 on second thought, the "clean" tone used here is already pretty crunchy, so there's your cascading gain staging, a lot coming from the amp. Still, this pedal slays.
Nailed "my hero" at the start
Seems like an amazing grab and go for gigs so you could really cover a big spectrum especially if you are switching between guitar/pickup types.
For centuries Pearl Cream was available only to the very rich, but in recent years the lowered costs of gathering pearl oysters has made it affordable to everyone. A thirty-day supply of oriental Pearl Cream is only...
Wait, what? Oh, that was Pearl JAM? I always get those two mixed up.
Andy is My Hero.
The Palisades is the jam! best screamer ever!
Awesome song choices
exceptional pedal! Very very versatile and each of the available voices sound very "convincing" and is properly voiced. This is definitely one of the two best (the other one would be the Sally Drive by 6degrees FX) TS style pedals...this one's definitely the most versatile one. Really impressed!
I'm not saying I want this pedal... But I want this pedal.
Need*
Andy is the Bill Brasky of Rock n' Roll.
The bandwidth control is called the "every amp is now a JCM800" knob
IMHO This pedal and The Luna stone wise guy overdrive are the top level in terms of sound...for overdrive pedals Earthquaker devices
the palisade is pretty much well represented here as the ultimate 808 type pedal, any variation of a TS pedal you have right here. I am gonna grab one of these fo sho'!
Already have an EQD White Light Overdrive, which I must say is fantastic. But this pedal looks and sounds freaking incredible
I love that Smoke on the water solo! great review.
After watching Andy jam that Foo Fighter intro I plan to buy the pedal and go to the Foo Fighters 2015 tour. Thanks Pro Guitars.
Wow!!!! I want to try this with the rainbow machine. Thanks for the demo!
Your demos are always good!
I wish I had one of these to compare with a VHT V Drive which has some similiar features. Instead of the 5 way bandwidth cap selector the V Drive has an 11 way depth cap selector that does the same thing I believe. The V Drive also has an 10 way clipping selector with an 11th clean boost clipping bypassed mode. The one thing the palisades does better is the boost + dual gain options so I wonder if the V Drive is better for the $... This pedal still looks killer though, I wonder which is more versatile.
Man Andy can fucking play!
Every time I think I’m getting really good at guitar I watch Andy demo another pedal...DAMMIT!
Love it! Foo Fighters. Pearl Jam. Killer tone.
Just bought this pedal, not knowing it was based on the ts808(on sale at GC.) I must say eartquaker devices really did a great job with this pedal. You can dial anything from a clean boost all the way up to a growling beast.
Hi! Can you tell me can you use only boost without activating overdrive segment of a pedal? I would sometimes use amp drive channel so Im curious can I boost it without turning pedal overdrive on to get extra bite.
Sometimes pedals like this are silly and more of a gimmick than useful. They did a great job of making this usable and still packing in a ton of options. I'm sure it's expensive, but it could actually be worth it. The switchable input caps alone is a very cool option.
That Corduroy cover was tight 🤘
@Josh Yosh: no idea how your comment disappeared! The pedals you listed (Tech 21, Modtone, TC VPD1 et al) might have comb filtering in their circuitry, but I've been looking for a dedicated comb filter pedal such as the THD Quintet, Snarling Dogs Very-Tone etc. And the Palisades IMO trumps all those pedals with the plethora of sounds you get out of it turning the Voice and Bandwidth knobs.
Great demo as always!!
TAKE MAH MONEH!!!
lol
The Sound is marvelous...and i got it last week :)
Wait a sec... that bandwidth switch looks familiar... Varitone, is that you? This box sounds very promising, I love the idea behind the Voice knob!
I've loved every single Earthquaker video I've seen. The pedals are second to none to me. They are built to last, and built to perform. Hand-made. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll ever own one. They are just too expensive for the common man to ever be able to afford reasonably. It's a shame, really, if they were just a little bit cheaper I'd buy the whole lot of them.
There goes my hero... Andy ! ;)
Custard pie! Hell yeah
It's actually one of the more reasonably priced boutique pedals I've come across.....
To this day it’s a best bang for the buck.
Corduroy, yeah!
Wow! Will definitely have to check that bad boy out...
Analogman king of tone....king of tone. that put an END to my od/dist pedal search. worth the extra time or money.
Wow. That les Paul with bandwidth at five....
Someone should take this idea and make it midi controllable. That would be sweet.
thats probably the most comprehensive overdrive ive ever seen. switchable caps, diodes, 2 channels with independent gain controls AND an adjustable boost! way better than all these bullsh*t multieffects. this is a proper players pedal
Got mine today, what a machine.. :D
I like this pedal a lot !...
I saw this email show up in my inbox this week and I was like "bullshit, *best overdrive ever...* that's so subjective."
Ya, it's the best... Period. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Andy my Hero ! :)
I'd lime to hear this in a highgain metal setting when used as a lead boost.
I traded my Fulldrive 2 for this pedal and I have not and will never go back.
Marcos Orozco just bought it today haven’t tried it yet will in about one hour... hope it’s as good as advertised
@@NoCoverCharge And? A year later what do you think?
No Cover Charge Yeah hippy...well?
Great demo as always Andy !!! .. and now you owe me $300 .. lol
ROCK ON
What is that Zep thang at he plays 3:59? He uses it often but I cant put a name to it.Thanks
Custard Pie : )~
How is this pedal in front of a high gain amp? Can you use channel A as an "Always On" TS style to tighten up a heavy tone and then use Channel B for a heavier gain layer and the boost for leads?
Very nice - by the way, could you do a Riff of the Day lesson on 'Custard Pie'?
Well if they are going back on what they said I'm glad they didn't mess around. This is one great sounding Screamer clone. I don't need new pedals...I don't need new pedals. .
that is one monster!
Corduroy... On a strat...!
Pedal sounds fantastic! I'm not completely sold on the artwork… I know it's a palisade but it doesn't do a whole lot for me. It would match my white Bit Commander. :) Very cool demo, Foo Fighters, Zep, PJ! Tickles all my 90's alternative itches and then some. Price is also attractive.
SOLD.
I love Earthquacker Devices, but they not cheap =(
While I agree with that for most of their pedals, this one is a bargain for all that it gives you
You are also paying for the pedal to be hand made in the U.S.A.
There’s the old saying...ya get what ya pay for. Its not always true and always remember to caveat emptor. But in the case of this pedal-it seems you are getting a lot for your money.
Unless Tube Screamers are your Kryptonite and you wear an S on your shirt-in which case this pedal will certainly be your doom!
Outstanding demo in all regards! When do we get to hear this pedal pushing dirty amps/pedals?
what was the name of the pearl jam song he was playing?
Corduroy
Just got mine!!! Love it so far!!! What settings is he using for the intro? My Hero.
Sounds like voice number 5. I use that voice a lot and the midrange sounds very familiar to me.
One problem I see is the old mesa caliber series problem. Theres only
ONE volume for gain A and Gain B. How are you supposed to balance the
two channels gain stages with just ONE volume?
Cool. I just did a cover of "My Hero" myself.
No one cares.
Hey Andy great demo as always! I was wondering what amp ur using on this . I'm in the market and was really digging ur tone thanks
Stellar
What amp?
Sounds great. It wasn't quite clear to me whether the boost is independent of the OD circuit or only active when the OD is on. Does anyone know?
Only active while the Palisades is on.
EarthQuakerDevices Thanks for the prompt reply. That's actually my preferred config. Hit bypass no matter what you've got dialled up with regard to channel or boost setting and you're back to your straight amp sound. Cool!
The thing that sucks is that their aren't two independent volume 's for the gain A/B. So you end up too loud when you click on Gain B.
Mc Ren try not to have the gain too high on B. I mean how much gain do you actually need? 😂🤘🏽 Maybe you could use your volume knob? I definitely understand what your saying though.
hmm looks familiar, ive seen this guy on some movies. wheres the drums yo
I've got the EQD Talons OD so I won't be purchasing this pedal but dang, it sounds soooooo good :)
Nice!
How does it sound on bass? I'm thinking it would be good to get one for my bass board too.
dammit ! now i want one...
Andy, what pickups do you have in that Les Paul?
Anybody else who thought this pedal was a sort of dark, aqua blue/green? Must've just been the background...it's black and white. I didn't need this pedal at all but had to get it as a TubeScreamer addict.
Well I'm in!
Foo fighters!
I just said Chiao to my Tubescreamer!
turn everything to max and play that
i want that amp to explode
It took 6 minutes and 53 seconds to break my 'never buy another overdrive pedal' rule.
uh oh... I want one.
i love my palisades...
Oh interesting...I never opened up my palisades and saw the chip cradle. I’ll have to try a few different chips out....see what’s doin.
By the way, this thing *is* the final word in tube screamer mods. It’s got this beautiful, vocal, midrange bark and modes 3, 4 and 5 are just completely monstrous. Plus, having the second gain option and a boost gives you just endless control on a gig.
How does it sound in Front of a clean amp?
Hello everybody, what's the name of the first song?
It sure sounds great but I think that so many options should be able to be controlled by MIDI. Is it worth to have 480 sound possibilities when you can only use four live?
AlVixan, what?? Four sounds live,,,, are you unable to bend and turn a couple of knobs¿
AlVixan, what?? Four sounds live,,,, are you unable to bend and turn a couple of knobs¿
whats the difference between gain a and b? I'm new to guitar playing and to all the it's accessories. It's all very overwhelming.
Channel A is low gain
Channel B is high gain
Channel B is the middle stomp switch on the bottom, step on that and you get the amount of gain (dirt, grit, distortion) and you get what you have dialed in on the knob.
Kind of hard for me to explain. They make a "Dunes" pedal which is a scaled back version of this one, but I would buy the Palisades because it's only a bit more money and has all of the options and you will figure it out. Both pedals are killer though and EQD makes the best pedals, imo.
What's the name of that pearl jam song he plays?
Second order harmonic available?
Y'know, I wish Andy would use a '59 Bassman instead of a '65 Deluxe. Much more pedal-friendly. I hear the sharp same top end in every pedal he demos. Even a Peavey classic series would be better.
Whats better rockbox boiling point or palisades ?
More choices with Palisades, but I'm not a Tubescreamer fan. Virtually every video I've seen of the Boiling Point makes me want to sell a lung for it.
Rockbox but the originals if u can get one. Otherwise the new rockbox casings.
this will sell like hotcakes
