I've never been a fan of Gene Rayburn. t's easy to see that she especially did not like the phrase "roll over and play dead." that was a terrible comment and she did not look happy with any of the comments that were discussed. this whole segment, to me, was in very poor taste, especially in light of the fact (1) Allen was absent and not able to defend himself, and (2) he had just a few years left to live.
Once upon a time, celebrities such as those who appeared as panelists on Match Game knew how to laugh at themselves and to not take themselves seriously - the result was this type of hilarious conversation between celebrities (ditto with Tattletales).

Yes & no. She was very sensitive to anyone saying anything derogatory, or making Allen the butt of the joke. This portion of this particular game show was skating on very thin ice w/Betty. She as always didn't reveal much if anything. Using someone's spouse as a means for a laugh is uncouth, whereas they could of used Betty's numerous roles, her personality or whatever they choice as long as it was Betty they centered on. They are lucky she wasn't too offended for Allen. Her intelligence and keen sense for the one liner is legendary.
