Performance insane, but also they just literally wrote one of the best lullabies of all time, in thousands of years of composing lullabies, for this show.
@@AmeliaKnows I'm no expert, but to my ear Meryl's singing has improved in everything along the way up until now (with the exception of FFJ of course, though she was AWFULly good in that too :). I actually think she sounds best now, in this 3rd season of NMITB, than in any of the previous musicals she's done (not to say she wasn't very good in all of those as well). I'd add to that, it may also involve the way she's chosen to sing for each vehicle based on each character - her intonation, so to speak (again, I'm no expert). Like she often does with her speaking voice, I'd guess that she also makes subtle changes to her singing voice to best inhabit the character as she sees fit.
Wow, that's so hard to believe isn't it - she doesn't look it and her energy and the way she moves and everything is so youthful! And she sounded great.
Meryl Streep is simply phenomenal. Ashley Park does an outstanding job and they compliment each other so beautifully. Can we also take a moment to appreciate all the editing in this scene? The way they cut between each character and the scenes in between is absolutely amazing. Well done! Bravo!!
Just when you thought you had seen everything, you find the best Broadway ballad in an OMITB episode. This is better than many Oscar winning songs. Beautiful.
Yes! And now after seeing how the season concluded...these shots that focus on both Oliver & Dickie are so meaningful. Because both men love her deeply, in different ways. While she is unequivocally singing to Dickie. So beautiful.
I always picture Ashley Park's part as the voice of the mother character who dies in the in-show script in this show; like they are harmonizing with the same motherly energy. This show honestly cures my depression each week haha.
This had me sobbing. I lost my mom a few years ago unexpectedly (far too young) and the lyrics, the composure, Meryl's and Ashley's delivery had me in a chokehold because my mother used to sing songs similar to this when I was a scared, tiny, or an uneasy child. This song is brilliant. As is the performance.
I lost my mom in a similar manner, unexpectedly and she was 54. This song reminded me of my mom's love for her children and also Meryl Streep's hair in this show reminds me of my mom's beautiful long silver and white hair. 🥹 I feel for you and send you my love. May we continue to see our mothers in the everyday little things and always feel their love that will never leave us.❤
Sara Bareilles has been my favorite songwriter for a long time, this little song is brilliant and Meryl Steep and Ashley Park have turned this into a most pleasant ear worm.

I love this whole scene, it’s just perfection. And I agree with you that the looks from Charles are such a part of it; he literally can’t believe what he’s seeing and hearing. It’s almost like it was the first time he understood theatre as compared to tv and how it can be magically different.
Beautiful. The songwriters deserve a lot of credit for this. Streep sounds lovely and has a sweet soft range. They fitted the song perfectly to it. But it's clear they wanted a bit of drama toward the end and adding the second voice was genius. Park comes in soft and delivers the high notes without overshadowing Streep's emotional delivery. It's very gracious of Park and really elevates the song. I can't love this enough.

This song makes me 😭 everytime. Meryl streep, the tone of voice and harmonies, the actors in the room baring their emotions. Just a masterpiece, of how it should be done. ❤
Wow! This one will win an Emmy. Every vocal recital will include it for the next year or two. Every musician in the children's genre will record it. It's that good.
Was riding the bus on my way home when I first watched this.. tears falling.. I love OMITB since S1 and adding my all time fave actress Meryl in S3 is such a treat already. Then we got to hear this masterpiece from The Meryl Streep herself.. Goosebumps all over. I couldn't be more than happy.. What a time to be alive.
The lyrics made me cry. It seems to be everyone's higher self and guardian angel telling the human consciousness that they are always standing by us, and we'll eventually return and unite with our bigger souls.
I adore Meryl and this wonderful comedy series. Easy to watch. It's a great show to snuggle up on your sofa with a cup of hot chocolate and a slice of cake. Needs to be made into a movie.
Musical story-wise, the harmony could absolutely be seen as the mother's spirit joining in, and then stepping back to let the nanny stand as the caretaker for her children.
My 2-year old granddaughter is captivated by this song. I'm not sure if it's Meryl Streep's vocal performance or the grace in her gestures but it is pure magic.
Hush, little one, let me sing you to sleep Moonlight has come, now drift off to a dream Sail from the day to the wonders awaiting you out there In the deep Off little one, chase the wind on the waves Adventure is calling, so go and be brave But if you get lost as you're tossed in the dark of the sea Look for me I will wait at the shore for you I will, weather each storm Standing by 'til Safe you return from the night My love is a lighthouse So, darling, my darling Look for the light (Light) The Light (Light, my light) I will wait at the shorе for you I will, weather each storm Standing by 'til Safе you return from the night (Standing by 'til safe, safe you return from the night) My love is a lighthouse So, darling, my darling Look for the light Light
This piece of music touched me and continues to resonate in my heart. This is the first Mother’s Day I spend without my mom present. For all of you who are moms, and those of you who still have your moms, cherish them. They are indeed the light calling us to safe harbours when we skin our knees, get bullied, lose first loves, find true loves. Our moms are everything. At least for me it’s true
I'm obsessed with the emotions Meryl puts in the "My love is a lighthouse / So darling, my darling" part! And who else here can't help but sing along with Meryl and Ashley? ❤
I was entranced from the moment she began to sing. I adore her intonation in every word she sings, especially in 0:22 when she says "wonders" how she carries each syllable with nothing but grace. God, she's so very talented.
Once again, Meryl exhibits her amazing range as an actress, singer, and performer. This lullaby stands out far and above the episode itself. Sorry, Selena, Martin, and Steve...
Meryl's performance of this song is just phenomenal. It's so captivating that if you were distracted during this scene and were't looking at the screen your attention would immediately be drawn back as soon as she sings "Hush litte one....." That is the utter magic of Meryl Streep. What a force of nature she is.
I am blown away by her performance, so far she is the best guest star in omitb, some of the episodes are like a great piece of art,I also liked Donna's dialogue about show stopper
Meryl's acting in this series and especially this song have gotten me binge watching all of her movies!! so impressive. i agree, she is the best actress of her generation. 🥺
I IMMEDIATELY found this song on YT Music and have been listening to it ever since. I can't believe how much I love this show. Truly amazing performances and such fresh comedy.
I watched this several times yesterday, and my gods are the chills that I'm getting now just as potent as they were yesterday. How remarkable! Meryl's voice is as angelic as it is captivating!
She was credited with "additional material." for that song. The lead composer/lyricist are Benj Pasek (music) & Justin Paul (lyrics) of Dear Evan Hansen and Dogfight fame. I don't know if Sara wrote the musical bridge, or the arrangement for the two female voices, or some of the lyrics or all three. Still you shouldn't say she wrote it solely when it was three people who created it.
This hits even harder once you get to her backstory and who's in the room with her. Teared up the first time I saw this, full on cried watching it knowing her story.
THIS was amazing! I loved this, I forgot how much I enjoy Meryl Streep's voice and OH when Kimber went up and harmonized w/ her. I have been singing most of my life and ugh hearin those harmonies was beautiful

😭😭😭😭😭 The evening of my father’s funeral, I dreamt he texted me to go outside to look at the house. The sun was shining on my parent’s house and then he told me to “look for the light” - I took it to mean he was doing alright. Now… To hear this message as a lullaby in this show was such a surprise and now I’m weeping at this perfect rendition of a beautiful message. 😭😭😭😭😭
This is perfection. Meryl especially. But the rest of the cast as well. The small looks on Oliver’s face, Charles is shook and Ashley’s small facial expressions after her part of the song. Wow ❤
A performance within a performance. Her character transforms on "stage" in this gorgeous lullabye, confident and perfect, then returns to the insecure, quirky persona. Brava! ❤
Yes but when someone is considered Swiss army knife it's similar to being considered a "Jack of all trades, master of none." Meryl can do everything as you said and is a master of everything. lol

Wow! This one will win an Emmy. Every vocal recital will include it for the next year or two. Every musician in the children's genre will record it. It's that good.
Agreed
Was riding the bus on my way home when I first watched this.. tears falling.. I love OMITB since S1 and adding my all time fave actress Meryl in S3 is such a treat already. Then we got to hear this masterpiece from The Meryl Streep herself.. Goosebumps all over. I couldn't be more than happy.. What a time to be alive.
The lyrics made me cry. It seems to be everyone's higher self and guardian angel telling the human consciousness that they are always standing by us, and we'll eventually return and unite with our bigger souls.
This song is eerie and soothing at the same time.
I adore Meryl and this wonderful comedy series. Easy to watch. It's a great show to snuggle up on your sofa with a cup of hot chocolate and a slice of cake. Needs to be made into a movie.
That sounds very comforting
This episode is the best of the season so far, capped by this amazing performance from Meryl. Every movement, every expression yells EMMY!!!
Musical story-wise, the harmony could absolutely be seen as the mother's spirit joining in, and then stepping back to let the nanny stand as the caretaker for her children.
The looks she shared with Dickie were so beautiful
My 2-year old granddaughter is captivated by this song. I'm not sure if it's Meryl Streep's vocal performance or the grace in her gestures but it is pure magic.
Hush, little one, let me sing you to sleep
Moonlight has come, now drift off to a dream
Sail from the day to the wonders awaiting you out there
In the deep
Off little one, chase the wind on the waves
Adventure is calling, so go and be brave
But if you get lost as you're tossed in the dark of the sea
Look for me
I will wait at the shore for you
I will, weather each storm
Standing by 'til
Safe you return from the night
My love is a lighthouse
So, darling, my darling
Look for the light (Light)
The Light (Light, my light)
I will wait at the shorе for you
I will, weather each storm
Standing by 'til
Safе you return from the night (Standing by 'til safe, safe you return from the night)
My love is a lighthouse
So, darling, my darling
Look for the light
Light
Thank you! ❤
Thanks ❤
This piece of music touched me and continues to resonate in my heart. This is the first Mother’s Day I spend without my mom present. For all of you who are moms, and those of you who still have your moms, cherish them. They are indeed the light calling us to safe harbours when we skin our knees, get bullied, lose first loves, find true loves. Our moms are everything. At least for me it’s true
Yes❤❤❤
What a dear sentiment, Thank you.
I love that Meryl is in this season!! SO BRILLIANT!!
It’s good to see her back in the spotlight because I haven’t seen her in any projects in awhile.
Hearing this. Don´t you wish to have a mom like Meryl, singing a song so full of love and warm? I do.
I love this show but I was NOT. EXPECTING. THIS. SONG.
Brillianttttt!!!!
I'm obsessed with the emotions Meryl puts in the "My love is a lighthouse / So darling, my darling" part! And who else here can't help but sing along with Meryl and Ashley? ❤
That part always brought me to tears.. like.every.single.time
@@ma9icable sameeee 😭
I was entranced from the moment she began to sing. I adore her intonation in every word she sings, especially in 0:22 when she says "wonders" how she carries each syllable with nothing but grace. God, she's so very talented.
I love everything about this! Meryl is amazing. And can talk about Ashley? What an amazing singer and she matches Meryl perfectly!
Once again, Meryl exhibits her amazing range as an actress, singer, and performer. This lullaby stands out far and above the episode itself. Sorry, Selena, Martin, and Steve...
No need apologising, I’m sure they appreciate her as much as we do (if not more)
The episode itself was okay, but the music number was a great way to end it
Autotune to the rescue
@@7zark785 Nothing can save you from being an asshole tho.
@@7zark785you clearly don't know meryl because I can assure you she is just an incredible singer. There was no autotune delectable here.
As a theater nerd from Atlanta I felt called out lol.
Donnas speech about the showstopper was amazing
Meryl's acting in this series and especially this song have gotten me binge watching all of her movies!! so impressive. i agree, she is the best actress of her generation. 🥺
I got goosebumps with this scene. Meryl Streep is a national treasure.. There's no one like her.
This song is much more beautiful and crazy when you realize who she is actually singing to
This song is just so incredible, I’m so glad we’re getting a musical season for Only Murders!
We need to thank Ben Glenroy for that😂
So many comments are about Meryl which I mean yes she is queen. But can I just say Ashley’s addition to this song makes it so much better!
Not 'so much better', even better.
I IMMEDIATELY found this song on YT Music and have been listening to it ever since. I can't believe how much I love this show. Truly amazing performances and such fresh comedy.
Most underrated show on at the moment. This performance was truly a unique gift. Thank you Meryl.
ong the lingering shots on Dickie make sense now
She sang so beautifully and now we know she was actually singing for her child ❤
I watched this several times yesterday, and my gods are the chills that I'm getting now just as potent as they were yesterday. How remarkable!
Meryl's voice is as angelic as it is captivating!
Same.
I'm not even kidding when I say OMITB is one of the best shows ever created. Meryl is amazing!
This is the most magnificent moment from the series in recent years. An absolute masterpiece! Meryl's playing is filigree! Bravo!
I was so blown away by this performance and song ; I had to look it up immediately and see if anybody else felt the same ❤❤
YESSS I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS TO RELEASE SINCE YESTERDAY!!!! Meryl’s singing is still so beautiful, so impressive!
OMG same!!
Auto Tune again !
@@oldcorp1 she can sing, so many things have autotune these days it has no bearing on ability to sing
What a great song by Sara Bareilles, and what a nice surprise for this episode. As someone else stated, I literally got goosebumps. So beautiful.
whats the name of the song
She was credited with "additional material." for that song. The lead composer/lyricist are Benj Pasek (music) & Justin Paul (lyrics) of Dear Evan Hansen and Dogfight fame. I don't know if Sara wrote the musical bridge, or the arrangement for the two female voices, or some of the lyrics or all three. Still you shouldn't say she wrote it solely when it was three people who created it.
Wow I didn't know that!
I won’t spoil but it’s crazy how much this song for her takes on new meaning after the most recent episode!
I'm fully convinced the show became a musical soully for Meryl Streep to sing and I'm SO GRATEFUL!!
What a showstopper. Now I've become Debbie from Duluth
ME TOO!! Get me on the next red-eye!
You know, I'm really starting to think that this unknown Meryl Streep person might just have a future in acting.

"wonders awaiting you" and "in the dark of the sea" - otherwise excellent
@@danmcallaghantrue, thank you, revised :)
Also: "I will weather *each* storm standing by til"
😭😭😭😭😭
The evening of my father’s funeral, I dreamt he texted me to go outside to look at the house. The sun was shining on my parent’s house and then he told me to “look for the light” - I took it to mean he was doing alright.
Now… To hear this message as a lullaby in this show was such a surprise and now I’m weeping at this perfect rendition of a beautiful message.
😭😭😭😭😭
Meryl's vocal range is simply amazing, and it gets better as she gets older.
Ok but after today's revelation (S03E08) this hits different and it made me cry an ocean.
I was thinking the same thing!🥲
This is perfection. Meryl especially. But the rest of the cast as well. The small looks on Oliver’s face, Charles is shook and Ashley’s small facial expressions after her part of the song. Wow ❤
I'm still waiting for a full version of for the sake of a child. That one gave me goosebumps 😍
A performance within a performance. Her character transforms on "stage" in this gorgeous lullabye, confident and perfect, then returns to the insecure, quirky persona.
Brava! ❤
This woman is the incarnation of the Swiss army knife, she can do EVERYTHING
Yes but when someone is considered Swiss army knife it's similar to being considered a "Jack of all trades, master of none." Meryl can do everything as you said and is a master of everything. lol
And then you find out that she was singing a lullaby for one person in particular...
Meryl Streep has a beautiful voice with great pitch and tone. I love how she’s able to convey such sheer emotions through her singing.
Too bad you can't really hear it in this video because it's autotuned.
@@Sindrijowell the belts here and there are still obvious
Now, this is a SHOWSTOPPER.
