Really love the interviews with musicians like Rex who are the last links to the old blues men! What a trip that must have been to play Bass with one of the best blues men ever. Stuff like this always makes me wish I'd been born earlier so I could have seen Lightnin' and a ton of other people I can think of. Pretty amazing that he was the only other musician Blind Lemon Jefferson would play with. That really says something about how good Lightnin' was!
Ron Wilson was the Texas legislator who played with Lightin'. (Side note: he just got in trouble for evading taxes, so that bass player had a tight pocket after all!)
Great story! For being the last living link to Robert Johnson, one doesn't hear about Honeyboy Edwards (RIP) enough. Appreciate the mention of him, would love to hear more. Thanks for sharing, Otis and Wrecks.

Rex is a treasure! I am blown away that Rex’s Blues is named after him. Lightnin absolutely dripped style. John Lee Hooker too, but Lightnin was 100% - he’d rip it up for 3 hours straight for bottles of whiskey and very little cash.
My dad was a Pearl beer drinker. It was probably the first beer I tasted. Sadly, the brewery has been closed for a while. Like many regional beers, you may find it, but it's brewed under contract.
Firstly, i L O V E me some Pearl Beer! Mr. Bell "bootleggin'" a 12 pk of Pearl & stashin' an oz for a trip to New York City makes him one of the kewlest Beings of All-Time to me.

Odd how getting all famous screws some people up or just makes em gross all quick get fancy lose their raisin etc ...not the types ever really mentioned on this channel mostly but others manage to navigate and sitll be cool drink their drink wear their clothes ...remain themselves....
I don't know what it says about me, but I wish every one of my videos had an old dog walking around in the background. Who's with me?
Agreed. Old dogs and old guitars are a good recipe. Sounds like a song to me.
Throw in some watermelon wine and I'm in, Otis. 😉
A black lab like my grandpa had 👍
@@crazymustang2 Labs are cool, I’m a hound man myself. My bluetick is available to be in a video.
I love dogs. Had one who lived 15 years. I’m with you!
Lightnin' was a real character ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Carnegie Hall. What a rush to play there. Cool story. Rex told it well with great color.

Carnegie Hall... much deserved for those blues legends.
I appreciate the stories and insights of a bygone era.
Wrecks is a hoot!
Thank you, Otis 🙏🏻🤍💛

Honeyboy and Garth Hudson did a short tour about 20 years ago. I wasn't able to catch a gig but can you imagine?! I bet it was awesome!
@@jimhurlbut3649 I had never heard of this. Bet that was really something.
Super cool to see Rex (my fave TVZ tune is Rex's Blues), and hear these great stories about Lightin'. Thanks Otis!

Some really cool stories!! Can’t wait to see if there’s more to come ✌️😎
Thank you for all your videos Otis. Really one of the best things on the net 🙏🎵😎👍
Rex is a cool guy I like his style.
Now I’m going to have to try some Pearl beer.

"How do you get to Carnegie Hall"? Play with Lightnin'!
Old dogs and guitars make your home comfortable.
I'd love to know what bass gear he was using! Great interview!!!
Same, was it a Fender P Bass, was this an upright, was it a J Bass, or was it some kind of Hollow body made to sound like an upright?
I love that dog tooo !!!!!
Love the T-shirt!
Another great one.
Was the bassist he was talking about Mike Huckabee?
I was thinking the same thing. Don't care for him as a bassist or a human being for that matter...
@@mannishboy1 No. Huckabee is from Arkansas, Rex was mentioning a Texas state legislator.
Ron Wilson was the Texas legislator who played with Lightin'. (Side note: he just got in trouble for evading taxes, so that bass player had a tight pocket after all!)
instant credibilty !❤
