Thanks! I make a ton of custom AD kits and I'm very specific in my processing. If you understand the basics of compression, volume envelopes, reverb, etc. and have a vision in your mind, you can work the samples into just about any shape you like. Maybe I'll do a tutorial soon...

Mm, it's not something I really experience. I'd suggest that is more to do with your hardware setup and potentially how it is configured in the S1 options menu. Since it isn't a concern I hear from people, I don't have any good answer for you!

It's something I made in Serum. Was a long time ago now, but I'd say a saw wave run through tube distortion and then some subtle chorus. Of course I also attached the mod-wheel to control pitch via an LFO for the vibrato.

STANK FACE 😖 I'm awed by how intuitively this seems to come to you. I feel like I spend more time thinking about how to compose than composing and it's very frustrating. And I'm a guy that studied theory in college. 😢
It's all about experience, not knowledge/information (though those don't hurt either...). The reason it may seem intuitive is I've been making music on a computer for 19 nears at this point, and much of that time has been spent trying ridiculous stuff, and playing in a wide range of genres. Also, much of that time it didn't sound too good... But, that does lead to some degree of familiarity!
Stupid question here (while I'm conscious about its stupidity, I can't find a smart way to put it). How do I go from making decent repetitive electronic music to this (the back belt level and this genre)? My musical theory is basic and don't play any instrument. What do I have to focus on? Music theory? Do I must start taking piano lessons? Thank you in advance. :)
Good question! The path will be different for everyone and depends heavily on your ear. If you're able to hear this kind of music in your mind clearly and work out the notes by trial and error, you can begin right now and learn as you go. That was not the case for me, but I know some people who took that route. For me, a mix of fairly deep music theory with decent instrument ability (and a lot of in-depth listening to similar music) was required. Ear training is also very helpful and cuts down on the time spent searching in the dark. I would recommend getting familliar with the piano for sure, as well as the basics of music theory. From there, it will become obvious where you need to focus as you try to make certain styles and run into obstacles. Have you seen my Udemy courses? They might be of interest to you...

I'd consider checking out a Jazz Fusion or Jazz Funk playlist and seeing what interests you. There is a huge variety of feels in those worlds but they are in the ballpark of this track. My influences here are probably some mix of Snarky Puppy, Dirty Loops, Anomalie, Marcus Miller, and a bunch of video game music 🥳

@@FrancisFurtak It's all good by me. I've played (and continue to play) a ton of 'real music' in my life - bands, jamming, solo instrument arrangements, etc.. I also make a ton of fake music! Both are wonderful.
You just need to know the right instruments to use and find plugins which have those sounds. Electric pianos, synths, key bass, acoustic drums. The sounds I used in this are from 3rd party plugin manufacturers so anyone can get the same ones, it will just cost some money!

Thanks! Yes, you can feed MIDI into Chord Watch offline, so to speak. It can accept MIDI data from any source that sends in your system.

@@FrancisFurtak It's all good by me. I've played (and continue to play) a ton of 'real music' in my life - bands, jamming, solo instrument arrangements, etc.. I also make a ton of fake music! Both are wonderful.

How can i get those type of sounds on ableton for example?
You just need to know the right instruments to use and find plugins which have those sounds. Electric pianos, synths, key bass, acoustic drums. The sounds I used in this are from 3rd party plugin manufacturers so anyone can get the same ones, it will just cost some money!
