I grew up in Northern Alabama and we got a major tornado tragedy every 5 years. We loved our local politicians who showed up, stayed up, bake-saled, shook fists at G*d and government with us. We remembered those things more than we'd pay attention to, or agree with, their policies.

The breakdown is important because young people under 30 are voting at historically high rates, and they overwhelmingly identify as Democrats (>70%). That has Republicans very worried because there are as many Millennials as there are Boomers. Millennials showed up in 2020 & 2022. If they show up in 2024 and GenZ shows up with them, Democrats have a really good shot at keeping the Senate, winning back the House, and keeping the Presidency.

From nationwide comments I see a lot of people who assume this was the "wild west" because we had no state mandates, but what these non-Texans don't realize is that every locality had free rein to make their own mandates. The only weigh-in the state government made was to not allow cities to directly fine people for not wearing masks with the logic that people who were reminded to wear a mask but still refused could then be charged with disturbing the peace or trespass. Laredo--a border city dependent on the trucking that crosses through--went so far as to ban parties over a certain size and to patrol to see if any houses had too many cars parked outside. Abbott (who, for a host of liberal reasons I don't like) was completely not anti-mask in the town halls he broadcast on the subject (well, at least the two I watched beginning to end) yet somehow managed to give the impression to the MAGAs that he was right there with them. If you look at deaths per million (at least on Worldometers), Texas falls in the middle.
Im not a Republican, but I do live in Ohio. So I've seen ads both for and against Moreno. I dont recall which it was, but one group of ads says thst he wants to do away with regulations. I dont know about anyone else, but I was in high school in 1969 when the Cuyahoga River was on fire. This made national news, and we even hear about it in Indiana where I grew up. Do we really want to go back to a time when lack of regulations allowed this to happen?

Im not a Republican, but I do live in Ohio. So I've seen ads both for and against Moreno. I dont recall which it was, but one group of ads says thst he wants to do away with regulations. I dont know about anyone else, but I was in high school in 1969 when the Cuyahoga River was on fire. This made national news, and we even hear about it in Indiana where I grew up. Do we really want to go back to a time when lack of regulations allowed this to happen?

Kenyon! It was one of the places I looked, along with Denison, Wooster, Ohio Wesleyan and Oberlin. Oberlin took me and much later turned from academic excellence to a citadel of wokeness. I don't know how Kenyon made out.

Just moved to southern ohio, the very tip of the state. Was saddened to see more people voted for recreational cannabis than they did for women to have say over their own healthcare decisions... Hopefully we can change this place blue... A lot of good people here, but stupidity and apathy seems to win out.
We need more money spent tonshow these caught-in-a-rut conservatives that Democrats can do a good job, and if they want to clean up their streets and people, they need to rely on Dems, because our Republican politicians keep things the same, or slowly turn the clock back. Here's a thought: Maybe the people who go to Trump rallies are never going to actually vote for him, they're just going to enjoy the entertainment of "the Trump Show" and to say that they've seen it - before the season ends !
