    Enjoyyy!!
    ; )))
The Chessmen were from Fort Wayne Indiana and were originally formed in 1964 under the name "The Telecasters". The original members were the founder and leader of the group, Jon Finchum, drums , Chuck Weick, bass guitar, Phil Motley, rhythm guitar, and Steve Griebel, lead guitar. The name change to the Chessmen took place in 1965 with the addition of a fifth band member, Kevin Evans playing the organ. The group, collectively, wrote "You Can't Catch Me" in early 1966 and recorded it on the Phalanx label that same summer. Phil left for college in the fall of '66 for 2 years and was replaced by Al Crowe. Phil returned in 1968 and rejoined the group. Near that same time, Chuck left the group and was replaced by Mike Geise on bass guitar. One of the most memorable moments for the Chessmen, aside from hearing their song being played on the local area radio stations, was a guest appearance on the WPTA Television teen program called "21 A-Go-Go" where they played 3 songs. The end came for the Chessmen in 1969 when 3 of the 5 members, Phil, Kevin and Steve were called to duty in Vietnam. All returned safely, but their days as members of a band were now behind them. Jon Finchum and Mike Geise, however, went on to perform with a very popular group known by 2 names: Peace & Love and their alter-ego stage name "Snake and the Armpits".

I'm not too sure what you mean by "that moog", but in this record, Kevin used a Farfisa Combo Compact organ, Chuck used a Fender Precision Bass through a Fender Bassman amp, Steve (me) used a Fender Stratocaster guitar through a Fender Super Reverb amp and a Gibson Maestro Fuzz Tone, Phil used a Gibson ES-355TDC guitar through a Fender Princeton amp, and John played Gretsch drums.

In 1968, I was running a cherry red Hagstrom semi-hollow electriic guitar through a Fender Super Reverb, and of course, a Maestro Fuzz-Tone. State of the art for a kid in junior high school! For Christmas 1968, I received a Vox Wah-Wah pedal.

This just occurred to me....If you're questioning which were the most popular organs used in those days, the Hammond B3 played through a Leslie speaker system was probably the #1 favorite, but Farfisa Combo Compacts became very popular because they were much easier to move from gig to gig than the Hammond, they sounded good, and they were made popular, thanks to Paul Revere and the Raiders.

This was the beatnik generation of the 60's and they had great music and wild free love SEX, before the spread of out of control AIDS, Herpes, and other S.T.D.S. that are resistant to most modern cures, and its getting worse! I came of age in the 70's and it was the last time a generation was Free to do almost anything that they want to do! Those days are gone, sorry young people, I feel very sorry for you and what you inherited! Good Luck!

The original 60s punk was the best punk.the statement had already been made in the 60s.or if you like, marlon brando in the 50s in movie 'The Wild One'(1953)laying the groundwork for a whole shcool of anti-heros eg:'Rebel Without A Cause'(1955)but i think Arthur Lee of Love was the first musical punk(andmore).but you could go all the way back to cave man days when the first cave man was clubbed on the head.70s punk onwards merely reiterated the obvious.
