It was very close, but I still guessed A=Yamaha and B=Focal right away. There is a noticeable difference in the upper mid range but I don’t know which one is closer to neutral. Focal HiFi speakers are still made in France btw ;)
I like both. Yamaha had bright sounding highs but the focal sounded richer in the mid area. I could listen to both but the Yamaha would give me a bit of listening fatigue from the high highs
I swear I could hear cabinet resonance through the woofer cone on the Yamaha. Seemed pretty bright too. Sounded like the Focal was more neutral. What do I know. I'm just a regular guy stating how it sounded to me. I also didn't have my beats headphones on. If my comment is insulting or opposite of yours, I will not defend myself.
a good amp doesn't change the sound, they all sound like they need, but in the low end, amps difference can hear, but a mid-class hifi amp doesn't affect the sound of such a small system. This has already been tested in blind tests. The rest is just "snake oil"
Best benchmark video presentation on RUclips, all music and comparision and minimal commentary. Yamaha has more musicality, full bodied. Focal sound escapes, sound like Mission speakers. Japanese Engineering wins. Excellent music too. Most high end speakers people play awful music. Kudos

Studio monitors are designed to accurately reproduce the original recording, while bookshelves are designed to sound more appealing to the HIFI audience, Hence the difference. Some of the Manufacturers slightly suppress the mid range on hifi systems to sound more appealing to a larger audience. The drivers themselves might be tuned that way or in some cases the crossovers are adjusted. ❤ Yamaha ❤

I prefer Focal, it's more colorful. Yamaha sounds flatter and also nice, like a good monitor shuld.

my observation as well. that midrange honk of the yamaha might be caused by hemholtz effect
