One of the most consistently good bands throughout their whole music career of all time. They've never experienced a decline sonically and innovatively speaking unlike other legendary bands such as Interpol's post-El pintor era. They have 11 LPs and i wouldn't consider any of them to have a rating lower than an 8. Their entire discography is majestic
But underrated is good 👍🏽...as you know that those who listen to underrated artists and bands are those who appreciate good music 🎶 Please check out Rose Hill Drive who are a band that I have been a fan of since 2008 and have never seen them live as they mostly perform in their home state of Colorado (I live in the UK). They have 4 albums under their belt but are not known to the "corporate money making' music industry....and that's a good thing 🙏🏾💕
Sam and Archer are my favorite guitar duo of all time. It's like they are playing one and the same instrument. They are doing different things but their melodies mesh. Sam is playing what looks like the same Fender Telecaster I saw him with 15 years ago. I talked to Archer once about his playing style and his Danelectros; such a cool guy.
@@jimiwo Sam loves that guitar. I think he may have a yellow one too. Archer said he has a ton of Danalectros. If I was in the Chicago area I'd hit him up for some guitar lessons.
Was lucky enough to see TSAC at The Empty Bottle in Feb 1994 for album release party of their debut. My favorite band ever since. KEXP listeners - check out these great bands: Shrimp Boat, The Coctails, Tortoise, Eleventh Dream Day, Sam's solo albums, Archer's solo albums. Anything John touches...
Been a fan since 2 years into this band’s existence. I often say they’re my favorite band. Beautiful Any Day in this set. This music has always felt like it was personally made just for me.
Thank you so much KEXP! Such an immeasurable service to the world of music fans. I love the newer set, but also must note that us gear nerds are dying to see amps and pedals. If you could maybe sneak in shots of gear during future sessions, it would be Yugely appreciated! Thank you!
I really like "Any Day." It's fresh but it still reminds me of the the songs I liked on One Bedroom, The Fawn, and Oui. The guys really put on a solid performance here. It seems like they are rejuvenated. I could tell from one show I saw in the early 00's that touring around playing at dive bars was getting to them.
The sea and cake has been in my life ever since the 90’s : you all are more than my medicine , the film of life has had many scenes unforgettably in the fields of songs you provide . The kind of music that you just not the same after hearing : thank you
What a coincidence... I've listened to "Nassau" the last days just to enter RUclips searching for some live videos. And now my heroes are back with a new album! Thanks Sea and Cake and thanks KEXP for having them!
KEXP is a BANQUET! I hadn't heard anything about this band since their fabulous album "The Fawn" from 1997. I can't believe I lost their thread until now. Thanks KEXP as always, for bringing so much music enjoyment.
I fell in love with the more indie, pleasant-sounding area of post-rock with Stereolab, The High Llamas (debatably) and these guys. Very passive, if a little ascedic for my own sanity, yet possessing a certain jazz influence in their music that is indescribably ebbing and flowing, making them a truly iconoclastic band in the ambiguous world of post-rock.
@Chris Carlone I think you have all the expertise I was certainly looking for on my post. You know from that post now I’ve been practicing my guitar skills (just as a hobby) and I can say I really love this “jazz thing” and the feeling it can bring.
AlphaBetaParkingLot Ah sorry man, it was just that it genuinly hurt my ear listening to this video (using headphones). Was pointing it out hoping they could fix it. Edited the message so it won't ruin the music for others. Again my apologies.
I think your outputs are flipped, Archer's guitar is clearly louder than Sam's, but Archer's guitar is in the right channel, not the left. Also, the mix seems appropriate to me. Sam's guitaring is beautiful but also foundational, Archer's guitaring is more like a second vocalist phrasing in the spaces between vocals.
I seriously doubt it. The oldest man in this band, Archer Prewitt, the guitarist with Black hair, is too young to receive social security. At 56, trying to draw social security may be very difficult. The bass player (unidentified) is not their long time bassist, Eric Claridge. He may be eligible. Royalties are all they need to get by. That's a lot of records. That's a lot of royalties . . .
One of the best bands in the world. Insane discography.
This is my favorite band. I don't understand a world where they are not as popular as the beatles.

agreed ! just found this video

One of the best living bands in the world.
Any Day is their most beautiful song. I’m glad they stayed together for so long so that it could exist.

I discovered them when I saw them open up for Tortoise - I think around 95. They really changed the way I looked at music and had some many new ideas.
I remember Shrimpboat. Great band, they used to play at Phyllis’ on Division St all the time circa 1990.
Proof that bands this old can make beautiful music still
J’adore la voix du chanteur, elle est particulièrement harmonieuse et touchante!
Everything related to Tortoise is amazing
or to slint!!

I love this band, I have been listening to them for 15 years and they always feel like home. Thank you so much for this immense gift to my life.
So smooth. Reminds me of my 90’s college days. It took me back to that safe and sound place mentally. Thanks guys.
Beautiful description
Agreed
Any Day is a masterpiece
First time hearing The Sea and Cake. Enjoyed their sound. Very soothing.
The very first Sea & Cake record may trump the others for creative, wonderful, mellow music. Highly recommend that gem. DKK
@@mekons12 okay I'll check it out 😁
Nassau, Oui and The Fawn are probably my favorite TSAC albums. "Any Day" was just ok.
@@adrianjohnson2874 Oui is by far my favorite album of theirs.

Real timestamps:
0:20 Circle
3:46 Day Moon
10:41 Any Day
15:37 These Falling Arms
Any Day makes me weep on the inside. It's like the calm after tearing apart.
Yes. Magnificent work.

It's dawned on me in recent years that The Sea and Cake are my favourite band. This session confirms that.
I LOVE The Sea and Cake. I could go on and on m, but you probably already know. Also, such an inspiration. ❤
Noodly jazz chords and studious demeanours. I know people that would love this
Perfect in every way
What a coincidence... I've listened to "Nassau" the last days just to enter RUclips searching for some live videos. And now my heroes are back with a new album! Thanks Sea and Cake and thanks KEXP for having them!
Such a great band, have been lucky to see them a few times over the years!
thanks KEXP! i've watched this full performance probably a dozen times now. :)
Love seeing these old indie legends still killing it in their performances
dude, I really dig these guys
Chicago's finest!
Sea and Cake have, you know, that thing...the vibe. What a session, takes me to a good place.
These guys sound so smooth!
One of my favorite band ever 🎉

You sound beautiful Sam
my god what an amazing performance!
Love the spaciousness and clarity in this recording!

I love re-watching this vid ❤♥️
Been so long brought up some old memories...tyvm!
Great album comeback. Have really enjoyed these guys over the years. Thank you :)
Always nice to hear new music from these guys...splendid aural pleasure. :)

In other word, sophisticated.
I am agree with you.

Amazing band!
O poder do som...frequência + ressonância = Viagem introspectiva!

the title track Any Day is a masterful song and they killed it live. come to Arkansas
Smooth and worth while
These guys should have been the Wilco or the war on drugs of their generation of musicians but NPR didn’t obsess over bands yet. #saddadrock
looking good
I think this is best band
Hey, that's pretty good
brilliant
Awesome beard
Insane F’n Ace Band...
Archer Prewitt's solo stuffs are amazing too.
Check them out.
❤
Damn. Wicked Sikk
Neat
I know I am a complete newbie when speaking about guitars and stuff, but are they chords, tempo and strumming patterns REALLY hard to play?
@Chris Carlone Thank you man! Appreciate you taking the time.

I wish I knew that gold thing is on John's snare. Maybe a trigger?
😍
The sea and cake are opening for the ocean and pie
Why so salty.
It's a joke based on 'the C in cake'

Mix is slightly off, guitar on the left is way too loud.

needed Kevin Suggs on this mix

witchty bass eric claridge
This band not only gets royalties but also social security.

That’s Doug McCombs of Tortoise.

Don’t tune your instrument before you play whatever you do
Good band for what they are. I like them, but McEntire has more opportunity to shine with Tortoise.
