Thanks for the video! Very helpful and informative. Durability is king for me thought I wouldn't be surprised if I picked up a pair of the experiences when they go on clearance as the 2nd generations are already out now with the flow. Keep up the good work 👏
Thank you for watching! I really like both shoes. You might have less trouble with durability on the Experiences than me. I tend to scrape that heel and really wear out some outsoles.
I agree. I worked on becoming a midfoot striker, however, I definitely heel strike a bit and scrape the one heel in some shoes. Fortunately, my heel strike is much less forceful than it was prior. It cut down my injuries a great deal.
I’ve been running in FWD experience and they need replacing and have worn in the same place as yours which is annoying because all the other aspects of the shoe still have wear in them. I’m in the UK but would appreciate a link to the shoe goo you mentioned so I can try and find something similar to get some more miles out of them. How much difference did you find the updated zip foam? I actually found the previous too firm and without much zip? All round it sounds like it maybe worth me giving the phantom 3 a go but there is a big price difference between that and some 1st version FWD experience. Another question is that I find this Altra model doesn’t give my big toe enough room (compared to say Torins) even tho’ they are supposed to be the same last. Is the TOPO Phantom any more forgiving by the big toe? Thanks v much for this comparison it’s exactly what I needed
Yes, I do believe to toe space is more forgiving in the forefoot of the Phantom 3. We have been finding the Fwd Experience/experience Flow seems less accommodating than the Torin. I speculate it could be due to a less flexible upper? I am not sure the newer zipfoam is more bouncy, however, it is definitely softer. I have about 430 miles on my Phantom 3's and still going strong. This is the product I use for shoe outsole - SOF SOLE Original Shoe Goo - 3.7 fl oz Tube - Clear Shoe Glue - Repairs Soles, Heels, Patches Small Holes - Bonds on Contact, Dries Within 24 Hrs, Waterproof - Works on Leather, Rubber, Vinyl, Canvas a.co/d/99BxCyU I hope the link works, it is from the US Amazon site. If you can't find it, I have been told to look for a marine adhesive sealant
That's a tough one. I enjoy both my Cyclone 2 & Phantom 3. I might consider the FWD Experience when the Phantom reaches end of life. The shoe I'm really looking forward to is the Specter 2. Thx, Jay.
The Cyclone 2 is definitely my favorite for up tempo running. The Phantom 3 is extremely comfortable and great for daily runs (in my opinion). I am also really looking forward to the Specter 2. I did get to see the Cyclone 3 that is expected to be released next February. Thankfully, just minor changes to the upper.
@@MyFatAdaptedLife I’ve been in the FWD experience and just purchased phantom 3 so the other way around. Not taken them out yet but the toe box is more forgiving than the FWD experience. If we had the rocker / geometry of the FWD, the upper of the phantom, the outsole of the Phantom and neither of the brands EVA midsoles then we’d be rocking !
Have both and prefer the TOPO, thanks for the video
I definitely got more miles out of the Topos
Thank you so much for sharing my friend!
Thank you, Lusya!!

@TheOldUltraRunner I am a mid to forefoot striker which is what this outsole patern seems most designed for so that would help yeah. Thanks again!
