I’ve been using John East preamps for years. They’ll make any bass sound great. But they’re not cheap. And you hardly see them being sold used. And Mr. East is a great guy with excellent customer service. You get what you pay for. Nice video! You got the bug now. 😂👍✌️

I played the 4 string MK bass a couple of days ago and I was blown away with how deep the tone was and how well it played. I compared it several basses in the same price range and even a Fender jazz bass and this bass smoked them all. It played so smooth and had a rich tone that I couldn’t find in the other basses. Each bass I tried had some flaw that just made them not feel right including the Fender Jazz that I tried. This bass hit all of the boxes and it just played and felt great. These basses are sleepers until you pick them up then you don’t want to put it down.

Very nice bass!! However, I would have liked to have heard more of what the finger style tone sounds like. Thats where you really hear the raw, organic tone of the bass and how the woods add to that overall sound. Heck, not even Marcus Miller slaps 100% of the time.😁

Great video. I've got the same bass and looking at doing the same. Do you ylknow if the preamp fitted in without any modification to the bass?
I have a set of those Rockfield pickups that I bought to fit my 4-string Fender Vintage Squier bass and they sound fantastic.
The problem is,..I can't find any vendors online that sell them new in the box as a set.....any ideas?

I have the 5OP Version. Dern active circuit ain't working now. Waiting for cust svc but am not scared to do my own work, so do you do your own bass work or off to a Luthier?
Audere might be a cheaper and better preamp upgrade with those pickups.
Do the new ones hv that preamp?
I had one a few years ago but it fell apart on me. That was before these new guys took over. The pickups were actually very good for that bass. I switched them out but put them back the next day.
what do you mean it fell apart on you?
@Nick Reid there were build quality issues like the bad output jack, treble stopped working on the preamp, string through body rings on the back fell out. Fret work was not good. Nut fell out. But again, I had an early one before they changed owners.
How many bands on the John East preamp?
What company did your mod?
What about the Bartolinis or Bill Lawrence P. ups?

I have Norstand In one of my other Basses with a Bart 3 Band pre-amp
