    Can you explain step by step how to re-introduce the different categories after following the FODMAP strictly for 2-3 weeks? I was wondering if you introduce one category of food at a time for a week, for instance, and if your symptoms return, stop eating that category, and then test out another category of food, etc? and which categories should be introduced, first, second, third?
    Thanks!

      @WendyLeungCoaching 5 лет назад +7

      Hi Jeff - high FODMAP foods are the same whether you struggle with IBS-C, IBS-D or IBS-pain but what's different is how your gut responds to them. Everyone's triggers are a little different, and often foods that aren't on the FODMAP list will still bother your IBS gut. I've got a vid on IBS-C and a few others on common food triggers on my channel that might be helpful for you!

    I have IBS and I am just in hell with the symptoms. I worry about trying to change my diet because I am a very picky eater. I don't like a lot of foods. So I don't know how well I'd be able to do this. Not like I really eat much right now anyway. I'm in so much pain from cramping and OMG the colonic spasms along with bloating, gas, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, and lack of appetite. I have a lot of diffuse pain across my stomach and occasional pain in specific spots, usually on the left and right sides, which are pretty hardened. But I also get a LOT of pain, tends to be the worst, at the top of my abdomen just below the center of the sternum (where the stomach organ is, I believe). Does anyone else here with IBS get pain in the upper abdomen like that?

    • @angelsbutterflies6293
      @angelsbutterflies6293 4 года назад

      Omg goodness if you read my comment you're basically describing exactly what i did before i ever read you're comment , wow I'm not alone. Just read my comment by southern charm and you will see what i said, you basically described what i go through every single day and it's very frustrating when i believe it's something else because one thing i forgot to mention is that i did describe all the areas that you are having pain in and same thing the pain right under the sternum as well and hard as a rock wherever the pain may radiate to. I know it's not my gallbladder or appendix because i have not either and it's so frustrating and i can't imagine living much longer because it's literally constant pain that i go through everyday and i have no appetite either with it which has caused my stomach to shrink. Then if i go awhile without eating then my stomach forces me to eat something bland and it puts me in severe constant pain that doesn't let up and i think it's something else than IBS-D and gastritis that i was diagnosed along time ago with. I've always ate healthy my whole life and about 4 to 5 months ago shortly after i has my second endoscopy done were they go down the throat, plus a colonoscopy were they go up the other end they removed two polyps from my colon. But every since then like i said it started with the stomach going into spams back in 2016 when one day i went down to tie my shows and my stomach just went into severe spasms and i couldn't move until they stopped and it still does it off and on till this day. The constant cramping that never gives me relief or a break is my main concern because i bloat extremely bad and gas as well and my point being i don't understand what went wrong from about 4 to 5 months ago because i had it under control with what i ate at least then i could eat and still had extreme bloating no matter what i ate healthy stuff. But now for the last several months anything i eat at all that is extremely healthy for me , it couldn't get any healthier honestly. But no matter what i eat because I've had total loss of appetite but my stomach has shrunk so much i can barely eat much. But just by eating baked crackers what I've been living off of for awhile i still live in constant agonizing pain that's why i believe it's something else and my GI DR just ordered a Cat Scan of the abdomen and pelvis with contrast to see if they can see anything because I've done several stool samples and no infection present at all so I'd love to know how i could go from eating months ago to now I'm scared to eat anything because I'm in pain regardless and as soon as any food hits you're stomach because eventually I've gotta make myself eat a small something like a few pieces of bland chicken strips baked with no salt or seasonings or some lean Turkey without bread and it still kills me so their is something else going on because i know my body and it wasn't like this before. Yes is still had extreme bloating and gas and acid reflex after having my gallbladder out over 12 years ago my acid reflex medication works but no medicine they have given me for cramping has worked or for the diarrhea either. I can't imagine living this way everyday it has stopped me from doing a lot of the simple things i could do because I'm in constant pain and sometimes the pain radiates to my back and all they told me was the pain has to go somewhere what an answer. They also said my throat was going into spams and they can give me no reason why. I'm desperate and need answers and i will be getting the tests done finally within the next week or two because it takes forever to get into a GI DR and the emergency room is worthless. They say see your regular dr and see a GI specialist and I've been doing that and then the dr said if you're in that much pain go to the emergency room so it's a never ending story here lately and it's unbearable sometimes and nobody should haft to suffer this way. Read my comment by southern charm and you will see what i said and I'm not alone. You're the first one who has basically a lot of the same symptoms i do wow. Best of luck to you and God Bless i hope they can figure out what is wrong and it's simple and treatable i pray to the good God above because this is pure misery. Also I've tired peppermint, pro antibiotics and ib guard and three different meds with no success. I can't wait for success because whatever it is is pure misery.

      It is just nasty, right now whatever I eat gives me stomach cramps, spasms, and bloating. I will most definitely fix this with the correct foods. The fodmap will be my next step. I work in a library, very lucky, so my next step will be to check out books with the fodmap diet. I can not stand the bloating, cramping, my hope is when I adopt this new diet that my stomach calms down, crossing my fingers. Anyone that does not have this has no idea how debilitating this is.
      It is in my family, my mom used to have it really bad too. Got those same genes I guess.

      This is a very debilitating condition. I suffer from IBS-D and my Gastrointestinal Doctor wants me to follow a gluten free diet and basically most all foods have gluten in them, it's very hard to find foods that aren't. They did allergy testing through a blood tests and basically it came back to foods that i don't even eat such as : peanuts, scallops, shrimp, basically shellfish and i never have liked or ate seafood in the past because i just don't like it. My aunt has IBS and she's the one that told me today about trying the FODMAP diet. I also have gastritis as well and have had both since i was in my early 20's and i just turned 50 and I've had 2 endcopsies done on the past one at 22 and then one last year along with a colonoscopy. My throat goes into spams and they can give me no reason why . I don't eat food fast at all. I think it's more than IBS-D because i don't even eat anything dairy at all and about 4 to 5 months ago I've always always ate healthy because I've had my gallbladder removed when i was in my early 40's and i have no appendix. When i had my gallbladder removed it caused me to have acid reflux really extremely bad and they've tried me on so many different medications and the only one that works is nexium. For IBS-D they have tried me on several medications as well for the stomach cramps and i also have diarrhea but i can deal with that better than the cramps. They have tried me on benatyl, and levisn and one other and neither of the three has worked at all. About 4 to 5 months ago like i said i eat healthy, i don't eat fried foods, salads, any salt or basically anything that i used to love because its not worth the suffering i go through just endless constant pain that radiates all over my abdominal area and even under my sterum sometimes and even sometimes radiates to my back as well, and I've had kidney stones and i know all to well what they feel like. Basically i think it's more than IBS for the simple fact like i said about 4 to 5 months ago before they did the endoscopy and colonoscopy i used to be able to eat healthy foods and enjoy them and now as soon as i eat anything, as soon as it hits my gut it puts me in extreme pain and thats far from normal. My GI Dr. Is ordering a Cat Scan of the abdomen and pelvis with contrast so she can see if they can see anything else going on. I basically live off baked crackers and if i try and eat a small meal which isn't even a meal it hurts me bad as soon as i hit my stomach so i don't wanna eat 85 percent of the time, so basically I've gotta make myself eat or i wouldn't. But then my stomach gets hungry because i can't keep anything on it so I'm forced to eat and when i do its the most bland tasting food because I'm scared it's gonna hurt me and it's a constant pain and it's just pure miserable and i bloat alot and o don't drink any carbonated beverages i never could, and i always have had alot of gas and i don't knoe what changed from that short of time were i could eat and enjoy healthy foods till now were my stomach has shrunk tremendously and it hurts me to basically eat anything and thats not normal. I pray they find out what is wrong and i hope it is simple and treatable and i don't ever drink alcohol at all. I never did acquire a taste for it and I've never been a drinker. I've racked my brain trying to figure out what it could be because i can't imagine living and suffering like this every single day i need answers.

      @@kevinbradley9601 Kevin thanks for the info and yes they have changed my diets around a couple times now the Fodmap diet, but I'm when they did my allergy tests I'm allergic to shrimp, scallops, peanuts, ginger root and I'm probably missing something but basically I've eaten healthy most my life because i had gallbladder attacks back in my 20's and they said one day i would haft to get it out and they weren't lying because around 41 or 42 somewhere around there it got so swollen and had developed gallstones but a lot of things on me like the surgeon just wouldn't show up at first, and that's how my appendix ruptured when i was 12 and almost killed me. But i have always stayed away from fried foods and slowly but surely I'm starting to get answers, my insurance i used to have the best in the world when I've always worked in the medical field since 1999 i left banking because nursing was just something I've always wanted to do but i never rarely got to use my own insurance i had it because my kids mainly it's he hours i worked that was so hard but i should have made more time, but as you age problems start arising and when some are genetic ive heard through a family member but I was always Armenia as a young person and then i guess went awhile without issues on and off and now not only am i severely anemic, i have a severe case of vitamin D - 3 defeniceincey and also my potassium I've had problems every since my oldest daughter was a baby but lately when i became short of breathe i went to the er. Because of chest pains and my potassium was only a 2 and i went through 2 rounds of potassium through my kidney specialist and it only came up one point and he had me on 10 meq twice a day and he yesterday jist increased it to 20 meq once a day and 2000 units of vitamin d - 3 and the potassium liquid is so nasty but i know I've gotta have it and my bloodwork came back a marker for some auto immune disorder and he can't guess and my oldest daughter has lupus and he is basically checking me for everything and the GI dr. that found the hital hernia and umbilical hernia found those thru a cat scan and o have severe thyroid problems cysts and nodules literally cover my whole thyroid. Basically to many health issues to list and not proud or want any and those 3 i named i knew something was wrong because everyone knows they're bodies and the kidney and GI have done the most for me it's like they change my PA's and Drs. Like underwear excuse my french and 6 prior surgeries and God knows i don't want anymore because i hate going to the dr. Because good news would i think surprise me and people should think God evedyay for they're health because i have two beautiful daughters and a lot of beautiful grandbabies and the last one on the way literally within weeks and i wanna be better because I'm they're only surviving parent , they lost they're father 5 years ago this month and i wanna be around for them and plan on it because I'm strong and i apologize I'm sure to much info i apologize and thank you for your kind words. The fodmap diet sounds like the most confusing, and strange diet.

      Ive looked up several FODMAP lists online and they are all different which makes me believe its confusing

    • @gutmicrobiomequeen
      @gutmicrobiomequeen 3 года назад +2

      @@toneman8478 I can see why you say that- it is frustrating. The reason for that is quantity. For example, if you eat one cherry it can be considered low FODMAP because it only has a smidge of the prebiotic FODMAP in it. If, however, you eat ten cherries it has enough prebiotic FODMAP to be considered a high FODMAP food. It's all about serving size. Many foods will show up on all lists (ex. onion) because there is virtually no serving that is low FODMAP, but others like Zucchini will appear on FODMAP lists sporadically because of their moderate FODMAP level. I hope that helps!

      @@gutmicrobiomequeen Is there any reference for an excel/list of appropriate portion sizing for a low-FODMAP specific range?

    Sugar, eliminate all sugar.

      yes, half the population in the US has either diabetes or pre-diabetes. People with diabetes are 3-4 times as likely to develop dementia. Just think how much thinner and healthier we would be without sugar. I use pure monk fruit.

      Yes you can't see it so they should at least list them were you can it wouldn't be that hard especially if they want you to try it. Why keep on googling it when the video is suppose to tell you about them. Knowing that we can't see that small list in front of them.
