The late Miriam Makeba “Mama Africa” explained it so well that we wear the doek/duku to honor the land we live on, we are sons & daughters of the soil and therefore we respect all life, land, animals and us are one. We wear it at special occasions weddings, funerals etc. because we are celebrating our being as Africans. We love the power of a doek ✊🏽

I find that the older I get the more I want to wrap my head. I think it's so beautiful. I think it makes me look regal. I prefer the first one but I'm still learning how to make the wraps.
I’ve always liked seeing head wraps and tried wearing one last year. I only know how to tie the #3 style. My hair was damaged due to excess tension and mistreatment, so I wore head wraps for a while. I think they are beautiful if chosen and styled correctly. Watching you two do such a great job on this video, I'm thinking about wearing head wraps again. Ok so I’m Nigerian, but we are not required to wear hair tie all the time but most time we have to wear it to church, wedding or and special occasion. Most Women just like wearing hair tie because it’s convenient, looks cute and we don’t feel like doing our hair. Period.
