I'm going through my initial for the GIV right now, these videos helped me wrap my head around the jet before I went to class so thanks for that. BUT dual cues for life man! none of that V bar garbage hahaha
I’m always learning something new. Tons of information available at the press of a button. The thing is to know what button to push and when. Thanks Shaun
Thanks for the video, it was very interesting. Could you do a video on the take off procedures. V1, Vr and how you cordinate with the other pilot on who has was responsiblity on the take off. Thanks again for all the information.
Thank you! Swell overview and really enjoyed the independent source of information to respective sides. Pro pilots armed with and regularly schooled in pro-systems getcha where you're going, every time. Thanks again, Shaun.
I love that kind of tech info Shaun! Great video! I'm just starting to learn how to use the Garmin 530 and 1000 GPS , Nav and flight planning stuff on a flight sim and boy its sure an improvement over the old days and ways!
I wish we had all that nifty stuff when I was in the Air Force. I was in the 69th Bomb Squadron so we were living in the stone age. I've never flown since getting out.
I never going to be a pilot, I do not have the smarts for that, but love the tech vids. One for thought, I seen the master alarm button and you see it in movies all the time, maybe show what or when it actually comes on. Keep up the good job Shaun
Thanks Shaun, as always for the great tech video!! Question - You mentioned the checklists in the onboard computers are out of date. Why doesn't Gulfstream push out updates for this type of thing?
Would be nice, at least for me, to have more camera on th PFD during a flight video. I like seeing what's actually going on with the a/c going 'up and down the road'. Just my 2 cents. Thanks and keep em' coming!!
I have tried to get that shot, but every mounting option I've come up with puts the camera where I can't see the PFD. I can't fly the plane without seeing the PFD, so I'm still trying to come up with a way to get that shot.
@@CorporatePilotLife Thanks Sean. I've seen some that put a small camera mounted on a similar size tri-pod and sitting it on the yoke to at least get a few short term views during flight. Not sure about doing that on the Hawker yoke.
Another great explanation for oh so many buttons! I couldn't help but notice the lousy window tinting done on the window over your shoulder! What's that all about OR am I just seeing something that isn't there? Thanks again for a great posting sir!
That's actually a retractable window shade. The roller for it is aft of the window. We can pull it forward and hook it on the forward part of the window. With age, they get brittle and look like that, but still work just fine.
I have what may be a dumb question. I have never flown a glass cockpit so I don't know what the IRS is. Can you fill me in please? What is it and what does it do? Also I just thought of another 2 questions. On long transcontinental flights do you have an inertial nav system and what about radios? Do you have HF radios for those same flights? Thank you and be safe up there.
Well you kind of answered your own question there...the IRS is Inertial Reference System. The G-IV has three of them...one for each side, and one for a backup that either side can use. As for the radios, we have 2 VHF radios, and 2 HF radios. The HF pretty much only get used when going over oceans.
Shaun, a lot of functions in a neat system, very readable. A bit of a learning curve. So What's more reliable disregarding convenience, actual instrumentation or an electronic package? I assume you ' have experience in both. Cheers, Rik Spector
I think you guys should request an incentive flight at a nearby Air Force Base. Odds are it would be approved, then you could see what 7 or 8 Gs feels like. You would need at least three days, two for training and the third for the flight. You can also take your video cam to record yourself grabbing the puke bag....lol. Safe journeys!!
If we were on the ground, we would not be taking off with that type of failure. In the air, we can use the paper manual to calculate the speeds needed.
@@Kld4402 My apologies. If once in the air the weight is known and can be adjusted for fuel use manually and same for Vref. You didn't mention "in flight" so I went with the simplest answer. No offense intended.
@@CorporatePilotLife True... I just remember one time in Long Beach at Recurrent their was an Air Force crew whose sim time was right before ours and every time we a Navy crew would have to change back to the V bars when it was our time. The sim instructor even made a joke about it.... Good times in the box. Fly safe brother.
The scale...LOL. Just kidding. The airplane is weighed every 3 years, so we know what the empty weight is. Then we add passengers, luggage, and fuel to get the total weight.

Tech Tuesday are awesome
Love Tech Tuesday's and today was no different.
Love how I learn a new thing about the G4 every week! Keep these going Sean

Great job, Shaun, very interesting, sort of an informal tutorial. I'll watch this a few times! The green screen read well.
Great video.
Thanks Shaun, been wondering about that little green screen since I've seen you use it frequently during your flights.
Thank you for taking the time to make these tech tip videos. Very interesting.

Thanks Shaun, as always for the great tech video!! Question - You mentioned the checklists in the onboard computers are out of date. Why doesn't Gulfstream push out updates for this type of thing?
They do...it always comes down to money though

Excellent ! Later.
Great video, thanks! What is the range on the GIV, or better how many hours can you stay airborne with reserves?
Shaun..how about the mechanics of going about "intercepting a localizer" or "outer marker" in order to set up an approach...
That would make for a great video...thank you!
If I'm not mistaken there is something vaguely similar in Microsoft FS 2002.
Sean, if you have more than just the fms and nav in the nav selection, how do you get rid of those items?
How about checking us out on the forward door operation?
Another interesting video as always. Have you ever had the stick shaker go off for real during flight?
Yeah...a few times. Turned out to be a faulty AOA vane. Certainly gets your attention!

Not really. I really like corporate flying. I want to fly the supersonic business jet that will be coming out soon...that's the dream!

A bit of a learning curve.
So What's more reliable disregarding convenience, actual instrumentation or an electronic package? I assume you ' have experience in both.

I suppose actual instrumentation would be less likely to fail...but electronic is very reliable though
Off subject but how many Gs can the G-IV withstand and how many Gs have you ever withstood? Thanks Shaun for Tech Tuesday, I enjoy it much.....
The official limit is 2.5G. I'm not really sure how many I've hit, but I have certainly landed hard a few times.
No EVS?
This may be too much to answer here, but if the automation would fail, how do you calculate the weight of the aircraft and vref speed?
You wouldn't take off.
If we were on the ground, we would not be taking off with that type of failure. In the air, we can use the paper manual to calculate the speeds needed.
@@courtney123a I thought it was self explanatory you would not take off, thats why I inquired about vref speed calculation for an in flight occurrence
Shaun, is there an equation for doing the calculation manualky, or is it different for each aircraft?
@@Kld4402 My apologies. If once in the air the weight is known and can be adjusted for fuel use manually and same for Vref. You didn't mention "in flight" so I went with the simplest answer. No offense intended.

Yeah...when this airplane was developed, there were a lot of military pilots coming into civilian flying.

Where do u get ur weights from
The scale...LOL. Just kidding. The airplane is weighed every 3 years, so we know what the empty weight is. Then we add passengers, luggage, and fuel to get the total weight.
Hey, Shaun! Has your jet got the ADS-5 update planned?
Most of ours are done already, I think this one is scheduled for later this year
How do you know the weight of the plane?
The FMS knows the empty weight, so we tell it the weight of the passengers, baggage and fuel, and it does the calculations for us.
THAT PLANE looks like your in the front seat of a car when the camera shows you !! HEY ONE MORE THING !!how come the displays are not in SYNC with camera like they are one the other vidio ??
