  • I haven't shot one of these rifles in over 35 years, and this beautiful example of a WW2 Lee Enflield/Lithgow 303 British didn't disappoint.
My ability to hit the target with the iron sights, however, was disappointing, but it was great fun none the less.
Big thank you to Andrew O for allowing me to shoot this piece of history, and for acting as my spotter.

I recently purchased a 1922 Lithgow number 1 mark 3* and to start with I set my target to 100 yards after I put 5 rounds into it then I moved the target to 200 yards and repeated that until I was happy to reliably hit the bullseye most of the time. I also have a number 4 mark 1/3 with a scope on it that can hit very close to the centre of the target at 500 yards and potentially out to 800 once I dial the settings in, now my eyes aren't what they used to be the front sight is a bit blurry the targets in focus after having cataract surgery so my no1 mark 3* it getting a scope on it soon cheers mate 🇦🇺

I even adjusted the sights at one point, and made it even worse LOL

I see you’re also missing the little wood piece under the bolt handle. I had mine fly off the first time I brought my smle to the range. For me it was the metal part recoiling back in that part of stock and eventually breaking it. Solved by grinding off a bit of material from the piece itself, where it makes contact with the iron piece in front of it, and regluing with vinyl glue.

Thank for the tip, @MatteoSaverioGrasso, I'll pass that onto the owner, as I was just borrowing it.

Nice! But your spotter needs to be more specific. Thanks for posting

Wasting rounds with poor calls. You need to be told target widths "full target right" "quarter target right" and the same for elevation.

To be honest, with the way I was shooting, I don’t think it would have made a difference, but yes, I need to work with my trusty assistant on his spotting calls.

Your spotter should be a commentator for Sky Sports, What blabber. The shooter doesn’t need to know what he did wrong or where it lands, the spotter sees and knows this, the spotter should be telling the shooter the correction.
A simple left X inches, up Y inches tells you what to do not what you did wrong for you work it out. He is supposed to be taking control and guiding you back on the target.

@johnclark1925, very valid feedback, and something I should have taken him through before we started. With the way I was shooting, I don't think it would have made much of a difference though.

You need a new spotter who can actually give you some accurate info. Your current guy is useless.

Not all his fault, I could have been more specific before we started as to what I needed, but that being said, I was shooting that badly I don't think it would have made much of a difference to the result.

your spotter is very bad for for you
FYI calls should call your shot eg1 target right 1/4 target low ,if he says anything else butt stroke him

I'll keep that in mind if I ask him to spot again @paulargent1003 LOL.
