Thank you so much. I’m a student/future PTA, this video helps me so much with understanding abnormal synergies and put neuro rehab in perspective. This is not just textbook knowledge, this is COOL stuff that many patients can benefit from.
Agreed: she is fabulous and I no longer have therapy sessions due to financial considerations so am so very grateful for these videos for explanations and exercise suggestions 😬🙏🏼
Thank you very much for your sharing your video. I have been injured on a jobsite within the last year and despite my stroke a week later it wasn’t until May (5 months total) and the full open brain surgery took full effect and started from scratch. It has been a long and slow process but I am on the mend and you videos are a lifesaver. Thank you so much for putting your video’s out there to see and share, it is a very big process for you to put them out there and I wanted to thank you personally.
You are amazing and blessed with your expertise. Now I know the difference and exercises to focus on for the different synergy patterns. Si yu'us masse, Thank you.
19MAY22: I suffered in 2015 a stroke I am 7 years into my recovery. I do not have my affected arm moving yet. Everthing else do to odd energy : I take apple cidervinega (ACV) in water in the morning. This helps clear out dead cells. The remaining two meals I do the same but use liquid amino acid. This helps build new cells. All odd energy movements reduced or went away. My balance returned and my walking improved.

Thank You, dr. Tara! This video is very helpful. My son has great difficulties with the supination and the wrist is always an obstacle. I know you"ve mentioned the "wrist problem", but would you please give some more advice about that?! God bless you in your enormous work for a lot of people all over the world.{I'm from Bulgaria}
I'm struggling with keeping my fingers opening up I don't know society i have or abnormal synergy pattern. The movement in my arm tend to curl up every I move , i have a splint I am currently wearing it right now, and when I walk arm tend to bend toward me when inside to me ( I try to keep it straight every time I'm walking ). When I'm walking my toes curl up every I move , help me 😣which and video should I watch in order to obtain each problem
Hi Dr. Tobias, Thank you so much for your videos. Both of my parents have had strokes in the last 6 months and I have been using your channel as my number one resource. May I ask a question? For the exercise that isolates elbow extension (at 8:26) would that be appropriate to do with someone who often has involuntary movement that causes elbow flexion. Would that make it worse?
Thanks so much! You've helped me tremendously with all your videos, I have ALS for 4 years now and YES I still have movement but limited...only a month watching 👍🏾👍🏾
Hi Randielynn! I am so glad you found this video helpful. I don't think that there are many people in this community with ALS. I am happy to welcome you to this community!! Let me know if you have anything specific you would like me to address in a video 😊
It appears my hand on affected side involuntarily tightens when ever I exercise lower extremities like it's trying to help..afterwards my hand will feel tight and have to take Gabapentin to calm the nerves..foot and hand acts connected. Any clue?
hi dr tara first of all thank you so much for your videos i am a phyiotherapist and they hepled me so much with my patients , i would like to know if you are doing a full cource on neurological rehabilitation or you could recommend me a text book with all of your useful neuro tips
I just started setting with a 65-year-old stroke man. He can use his right arm very little and it basically stays at his side. He can use his right hand to feed himself but it takes quite a while and it is quite a struggle. He cannot lift his right arm straight up above his head. I am wondering what would be the first simple steps to help him with his right arm? He doesn’t talk a lot but he does understand and does what I ask him to with his hands as best he can. I so want to help him get better. I’ve listened to this video but after you said to isolates a hand and elbow, I thought I better ask the first specific stab. I was just having him open his hands and grip then open again, thinking that would help him with his use of his hand when eating. I’ve been listening to all your videos and they are so very helpful. Thank you for any guidance you might share.
Dr.Tara, another great informative video. Thank you for the in-depth explanation on involuntary synergy movements. Please share your thoughts on the Saebostretch as a hand/wrist brace. Thank you!
A patient that has hemiplegia and d person's leg shakes when working out, what can the person do to improve his leg atleast for he or she to do a proper Burpees or proper high knee workout
In a lot of your videos you have the affected hand strapped to a bar, etc. so then you can’t keep hand and wrist in extended position. How do you work on hand to release object the? I can put my hands around simple things, just can’t let go.
Hi there Elena, I've been learning a lot since my recovery started. Wrist spasticity is very bad which restricts the finger movements. Plus it causes a deformity that is pretty common in stroke. Its ,As she says wrist turns downwards (flexionand in some cases wrist stays in abduction.( sideways tilt forming a curve in wrist. I'm sure your therapist might help on this with proper stretching
I am PT from india hyd i have patient with flex synergy pattern on rt and she has polio on lt side how can I encourage exercises isolating abduction mam can plz help me
Great video! An unrelated question: when do you review exercises if you have followed an exercise program and haven't seen much improvement? For example I have followed exercises to fix leg externally rotated for about 4 months without measurable change.

I found your site while looking for exercises to do with my 12 year old who has a brain avm and light hemiparesis (hopefully it’ll stay that way). While most of your exercises aren’t really for her I’m enjoying listening to you teaching & explaining. I appreciate all the time that you put into your channel.
