- Painting a sunsrise in oils from start to finish, including colors and color mixes. Starting with an acrylic base layer Dutch painter Janhendrik Dolsma takes you along when he paints a beach at sunrise. Doubts and halfway changes included.
I love that you show how to change or correct something. And I love that you show the colors in the mix that you are using. Such a helpful tutorial. I am going to have to get out my sunset photos and try my hand. Greetings from Santa Fe, New Mexico! - Ann
Thank you for your kind comment, Ann. Good to hear the color listing is helpful. Did you get out your sunset photos yet?
Stunning, amazing. You are a absolute master of painting skies
Thank you!!
Lindooooo, fantástico, amo, nota 1000 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😍😍😍😍❤❤❤❤ Brasil
Que bom ouvir, obrigado!
Sir , You're such a beauty to create this masterpiece in such an elegant and simple way.
Huge respect for you Sir🗿...!!
You're very kind, thank you!
The beauty of simplicity. Such painting creates a certain calmness in the viewer i think.
That's what I was going for. Good to hear you think it worked!
Дивовижні пейзажі! Хмари на будь-який смак! Вдячна за майстер класи! ❤❤❤
Дякую, Зено, рада, що тобі подобається!
Love the fact that you use acrylics for the base and the mist was a great touch. Awesome.
Thanks, Mike! Yes, the acrylic base layer is almost becoming the default start of my paintings at the moment. It helps tremendously to get a coherent image much sooner.
Thank you for these wonderful classes. You have taught me so much
That's wonderful to hear, thank you!
Nice mix of colors, perfect balance, and overall nice presentation. Thank you for sharing. Pretty amazing how you brought that sun out from the ring of colors into what it is.
Thanks, Jerry. The thumb is the secret!
These are exceptionally good videos! Love your work 🎨
Thank you, Anthea!
Absolutely love it .
Thanks, Jon!
Hi Janhendrik - thank you so much for sharing all your wonderful videos with us. I've sat spellbound for most of this morning when I too should have been painting. Ah well. As I am also teaching art classes I feel inspired to teach big sky scene. I would love to drop a reference you're channel in my description if that's OK. I'm sure it will inspire others to share and follow you as well. - Best wishes - Paul 😃
Hi Paul, Good to hear you enjoyed my videos, even more so when coming from a fellow artist. Please feel free to drop a reference to my channel, thanks in advance!
MAGNIFICENT!!
Thanks, Karl!
Just enough Jan, the colour transition is excellent..
Thank you, it was a bit of a struggle, but it always is. Glad you like it!
Its so pleasing to see you using your fingers to paint. I'm often using using my fingers to blend and soften. This often makes a better mark than a brush- Paul 😃
Ah, great that you use your fingers too. Over the years I go a lot of comments on it and it's obviously not as common as it was when I was an art student, sometime halfway the previous century.
Thank you Janhendrik. I've worked up a half decent painting following your inspiring videos. With luck I hope to have it on my channel for this Sunday. Thank you once again for your dedication and sharing your work. I hope many more people find and follow you. p.s. I trained as a Bob Ross instructor in Roermond in the Netherlands many years ago. Needless to say Holland is one of my favourite countries. Heb een geweldige dag - beste wensen - Paulus😃😃😎😎@@PaintingSkies1
@@PaulRansonArt My pleasure, Paul! Funny you studied in Roermond. I know the place from long ago, when I was a musician. Very hospitable people. Roermond is in the south of the county and I live in the north. Different landscape, different mentality, even in such a tiny country...
Best of luck with your painting!
Thank you Janhendrick - I did my best and the posted the video on Sunday. I gave you're channel a shout out and a link as well. Take care and I'll try another big sky scene again soon. - Paul @@PaintingSkies1
Thanks, Paul, for promoting my channel, I'm honored. Your big sky video is very well done. Loved to see you use some of my tricks, but still maintaining your own approach. Chapeau!@@PaulRansonArt
Excellent!
Thank you!
Very pretty
Thanks, Meredith!
Wow. Just …. gorgeous! As always, such a joy to watch you create your beautiful pieces. And your voice always soothes me somehow! Added bonus lol.
May I ask what kind of paper you begin with and in your experience will it hold up for many years to come?
Thank you, Donita! At the moment I'm using 300 grs. Arches oil paper. I also sometimes use 350 grs. Canson oil/acrylic pads. I did a Quick Guide to Painting Oil Sketches on Paper on RUclips: ruclips.net/video/06RTLaxDFDU/видео.html.
@@PaintingSkies1 oh thank you! I will check that out!
stunning as always, and thank you for the commentary , I'm interested to know if the paper flattens out, or do you have to stretch it in some way? thank you..
Thank you. The paper more or less flattens out by itself. If you want it to be really smooth you can have your frame maker mount it on a piece of board. You can then frame it like a painting.
انت رائع حقا ولك احساس صادق
شكرا لك على ان تعلمت منك
شكرا لك، هذه مجاملة عظيمة!
Wow
Thanks, Sana!
Ciao Janhendrik ,i came across your videos recently and i'm thrilled! You are truly an artist! Did you use both acrylic and oil colors in this painting? I hope for your response and i hug you thanks four your videos...ciao from italy
Thank you for your kind words! I used acrylics only for the blue bas color. The actual painting is done in oils.
@@PaintingSkies1 thank you Janhendrik for the reply, hello and good paintings
I am not liking like the sun reflection going up into the painting. It looks out of place, or not diffused enough, it might be toned down a bit from the reflection of water, or removed from the highlighted cloud layer, but i bet you tried that. Anyways, i like the painting but that one thing stands out and looks strange to me . Just saying.
Thanks for your comment, Markus, it's appreciated. You got a valid point here. Will look at it again.

Dankjewel, Howie (uit Harkema?)!
