I was thinking about getting an Amazon Alexa device but it’s basically an up-to-date clapper. Instead of clapping you say “Alexa turn on the lights. Alexa turn on the radio.” Etc.

They should combine the two together, have a smart plug that can turn on/off to a noise or word that doesn't rely on cloud based services and have to wait for a response from internet. I'd imagine the clapper is faster than asking Alexa to do it (which is what I use for my smart home and still works nice).

Had one of these in college, my roommates always would laugh real loud and set it off. It was connected to my lamp near my bed. Also, in the mornings if I was in a hurry and throwing plastic clothes hangers around trying to get dressed, it would set it off (or on) when the hangers clacked together.

Seeing this commercial reminds me of a horrible nightmare i had when i was like 5 years old, it was just me sitting in a really tall chair in my old house with only one light on, nobody was around however i hear a crowd say "clap, clap", and thus i clapped twice, and then i hear a single big echoed clap that wasnt from me, 1 second later i hear nothing but screaming for a solid 5 second before finally waking up, and crying my eyes out, ugh, i have hated that nightmare for so long

One Super Mario themed, the other Zelda themed, but both the tastes real good but devoid of nutrition sugary junk. The ad aired in 1988,and is easy to find on RUclips. It had a chorus that repeatedly went "Nin-Tend-DOH!" in a rather ominous tone. Years later, I dreamt of walking around a darkened area, and hearing that "Nin-Ten-DOH!" chorus coming somewhere from out of the dark void. Scared the bejeezus out of me. I've had dreams/nightmares involving natural disasters, personal loss, and blood 'n guts, but even those didn't have me waking up in a shit panic like "Nin-Ten-DOH!" did.

They have two channels each: Two-claps, or Three-claps (and "Away"). Set your stereo to 3 and your lights to 2....
