I agree. I been in the truck repair business for almost 30 years now, been driving trucks since I was 15, and I see people all the time, that DON'T NEED TO BE DRIVING a semi truck.....
@@jamesstrickland631 I've witnessed it first hand. But the problem is in just about every industry too many people born in the U.S., Canada, probably any Western country don't want to work in general and especially in jobs like trucking and especially the younger people. When there is a shortage of workers the bar gets lowered.....incompetent, improperly trained, unprofessional, lazy, even substance abuse issues...it's all too common. I did two brunch cruises on the Queen. That was one of the first trips I to my now wife. I had read an article that the Queen has been sold and there’s been a replacement. The dropping of the anchor was a wing and prayer that the Chesapeake Bay Pilot who ordered it to be deployed had hoped would catch on something and turn the MV Dali away from the FSK bridge. That said I have questions that to date I have not heard of found answers too. The first has to do with the MGO that the Main Engine, Main Engine Auxiliary Generators (ie the gen-sets that run the electric Blowers, engine oil and coolant pumps, as well as providing power to the hydraulic pumps that operate the rudder, and provide power for the reefer Conex boxes, house lights etc. Question 1 is do ships of this size use day tanks for fuel? Question 2 Do ships have Fuel “Polishing” Centrifuge(s) to polish/filter the MGO? Question 3 Do ships of this size have hot swappable fuel filters so that if an obstruction occurs the standby filters can be switched to quickly and easily. Question 4 Do ships have fuel flow sensors placed before and after the fuel filters to check for obstructed fuel filters? Question 5 Do ships engineers task samples of the fuel in the ships different tanks to check for water, algae, dirt etc and if so what would be an appropriate schedule to check the fuel in the tanks? Question 6 Workers at the port of Baltimore have reported that the Dali was having some sort of an electrical system problem and that every time they tried to get the ships generators to take the load after unloading and loading of Conex boxes that circuit breaker would pop and sometimes knock the generator offline. It was so bad that workers at the port have told reporters etc that the ship was using shore power. My question is who checks or certifies the problem has been resolved and systems are working properly. Lastly the ship took on a total of 400,000 gallons of at least two different types one being MGO and the other was what heavy fuel the ship burns past the 200 mile environmental zone. Answers to these questions would greatly be appreciated and thanks in advance for any replies given to my questions

As always, a great video! Since you mentioned aviation and as a former airline pilot, I’ll chime in again. There was, within my profession, a certain lack of confidence in the competency of crews working for some airlines of some less developed nations. It was often apparent that something was missing in the training, experience, qualifications, et al among these crews and this was sometimes alluded to in examination of accidents in CRM (crew resource management) training. I haven’t any idea whether any such contributed to this accident but I am a bit surprised that your conversation did not mention as a general concern the registry of vessels in under a “Flag of Convenience” and the problems that doing so inevitably creates when complying (or not) with safety standards and the quality of personnel. It almost seems as if someone flipped the power switches off then on then off and on again! Like Captain Darrell said, "how did the engine PLUS All the generators go out at the SAME TIME!?" I pray it really was an accident, but it just seems a little off. I love the videos, and you guys are just THE BEST!!!

I would love to listen to a podcast of you two! I've only got so much time to take care of household chores, and can't be using that time to sit and look at videos. So I've been listening to a lot of podcasts lately. It makes the time pass more quickly as I do the boring things that have to get done. My podcast player of choice is Spotify, mainly because it's already installed and I don't have the time to go off in search of another one, and then do all the sign up stuff. But every podcast I listen to announces that they're available on all the platforms. I don't know how much trouble it is for the creator to maintain all that. It doesn't matter to me if you do it weekly, every other week, or monthly, but I truly would enjoy it.
Thanks for your feedback, Kim. I listen to a lot of podcast-formatted shows. I don't have Spotify or any of the others so I listen later on RUclips...but yes, the podcasts are a great way to pass time during chores. Although sometimes I have to rewind because my mind can't focus on two or more things at once. HMM

Thank you guys! I enjoyed hearing your insights on this disaster. It seems regardless of the cause, someone wasn't doing their job or jobs properly. Whether it was in terms of security, maintenance or following procedure. And who knows if the true cause or causes will ever be completely known or especially revealed. Something seems fishy regardless. And a podcast would be great. I do really enjoy the visuals of these videos, but I like the listening flexibility of a podcast. Sometimes I watch the videos on my phone, but to really appreciate them I usually watch on my pc. A podcast I can listen to when I'm driving or on my lunch in my car.

Why didn’t the crew aim for the middle of the bridge? 1600’ between the cement pillars. Ship is 200’ in width. That’s 700 feet on either side. Airplanes aim for the middle of the runway.
Yes...there would less effect on a rudder without the prop turning, but a 9mph 1,000-ft. ship fully loaded with no prop turning would still respond immensely to its rudder. Thanks...HMM

@@chuckgilbert2035 I assume your grandfathers have passed on? I know there are very few WWII vets left...thanks.
@@HistoryMysteryMan yes. One was 72 years old when he passed. The other one was 98. Passed in 2000
@@chuckgilbert2035 They were amazing men, called to duty as kids. So much respect. HMM
A call in podcast or just a podcast would be fantastic!
Thanks for your feedback! HMM
Capt Darrell is the best..and of story..
I'll buy that! Thanks...HMM
boy they load those ships high with cargo and God bless you two as well
That really struck me too...seems like those container ships would be way too top-heavy. Thanks! HMM
Don and Darrell. Thanks A TON for another great season talking about ships! I enjoyed watching each and every video.
Darrell, I'm so jealous of your hat, your Anderson shirt, and got to love that ultra fast Jet Express....and your jacket!
I'll anxiously await later in the year when you two get together again.
I always wanted to wheel the Jet Express...Capt. D did it for years. Getting a lot of great comments on his hat and shirt. Thanks for your support, Chuck. HMM
Look forward to the racing season.👍
Coming next! Thanks for your support...HMM
Like the pictures in the last handful of videos. Fantastic channel.
Thank you so much. Your comments are so rewarding! HMM
@@HistoryMysteryMan thank You!
@@MacGregor. You're welcome!
been fun guys
Thanks! HMM
Good stuff
Thanks for that! HMM
It almost seems as if someone flipped the power switches off then on then off and on again! Like Captain Darrell said, "how did the engine PLUS All the generators go out at the SAME TIME!?" Just feels wrong. Look at how much damage just one ship has done. Very reminiscent of a few stray airplanes that caught us with our pants down. I pray it really was an accident, but it just seems a little off. I love the videos, and you guys are just THE BEST!!!
Its simple , if the generator trips the engine fails
@@abrahamphilip6439 aren't the generators to provide backup power to the engine
Generator power is needed to start the Main engines,, just as in a car the alternator is required to keep the engine running without stalling ,
@abrahamphilip6439 and they also have backup generators is my understanding, sources of power not directly from the engine
Love those cool videos keep them coming
Thanks again, Bob...HMM
Oh man, I just ran into a video elsewhere about the Bradley's sister ship Captain Darrell did that he would be perfect to do on, he needs to make a return to do it!
I'll reach out to Capt. D. tomorrow morning...thanks. HMM
Don we love your content. Podcast is a great idea. I certainly would listen.
Thanks again, Kathleen; we always appreciate your feedback...and your support! HMM
3:48 3:52 Always good to get the facts from a professional that knows. It is strange that there was no redundancy in the power systems.
Thanks 👍
Thanks for your continued support, Gary...HMM
love it , love it from west tennessee, just north of memphis
Had a great time in Memphis last year, meeting up with race driver Sammy Swindell...then stopping by the Battle of Shiloh on the way back was pure bonus. Thanks for your support...HMM
HMM
Sign Captain Darrell to a lifetime contract!
Best idea of the day award! Thanks Greg...HMM
You have a fan in northern Ohio!❤
Awesome, and I am grateful! Thanks...HMM
I’d love to drink a beer the good captain!
Probably could be arranged! Thanks...HMM
Once Again HMM and Captain Walton, You Two Knocked It Out of the Park! Thanks and I Agree With You All and I'm Going To Miss the Maritime Videos. Racing Season Lets Go, and If You Start A Podcast I Know You Will Have at least One Loyal Listener. lol Peace and Be Safe.

Good points Gregg. A podcast would give us a little more liberty...and probably easier to produce without all the visuals. Thanks for your input! HMM
Always great to hear Capt Darrell stories. Have him look into the Sidney E Smith Collision in the St clair river. Would be interesting to hear his take on it
Interesting...Capt. D actually mentioned that story to me a couple months ago, for a possible discussion. Thanks Peter...HMM

Thanks for your feedback Steven! HMM
Why didn’t the crew aim for the middle of the bridge? 1600’ between the cement pillars. Ship is 200’ in width. That’s 700 feet on either side. Airplanes aim for the middle of the runway.
When the propeller isn't turning, the rudder has almost no affect, even if there's momentum. That being said, this is a very fishy situation
@@nascarfan88ta Intention hit. Scooting along 9 mph in the dark
Great question Bob...thanks. HMM
Yes...there would less effect on a rudder without the prop turning, but a 9mph 1,000-ft. ship fully loaded with no prop turning would still respond immensely to its rudder. Thanks...HMM
Why after the sunshine skyway 40& years ago why don"t all major bridges have protective dolphins?
Good question that deserves an answer...thanks. HMM
@@HistoryMysteryMan I have fished under the skyway, the dolphins at the surface are at least fifty feet around at the surface, below it juts out on a fortyfive degree angle of rock, many snags. After thought I have a sixteen foot boat they were massive!
