this was not the last union soldier alive. there was plenty more reunions in the 1930s where thousands of confederate and yanks got together to break bread. sounds like he’s saying he’s the last one from his town who went off to fight
Wow.. the people are rude in your comment section😮
I friggin loved this ❤!! Thanks for posting it! ✌️
Not seeing anyone rude in the comments. Pretty amazing interview and footage though.
“And now I am ready to lay here with my comrades” 😢
its crazy we have video of civil war vets that are still alive, remember these guys were born probably in the 1840s.
American and European innovation and ingenuity
James Albert Hard would have heard about Stalin's death in the news! Could've read 1984, man fought at Antietam, Fredricksburg and Chancellorsville and lived through almost all of the fighting of the KOREAN War. 1842-1953.
That heartbeat makes me nervous
It is a very interesting video. However i believe facts are very important when discussing history. Thanks for posting it.
A little off topic but it seems the meaning of many words have changed! Take the word "hate".... people who just disagree with an opinion are now haters! Thanks again!!!!
Indeed 😅
He said the last one that matched in 1861.. He didn't say last Union Soldier
This isn't the last Civil War veteran. There were multiple verified veterans alive in the 1940s and 50s, and this is nearly 30 years earlier, when Generals and officers on both sides were still alive... To name a few of the last ones:
Albert Henry Woolson (1850-1956)
James Albert Hard (1843-1953)
Pleasant Riggs Crump (1847-1951)
Alden G. Howell (1841-1947)
Henry Doll (1847-1947)
James Frederick Lyon (1843-1946)
James Burns (1845-1944)
Samuel B. Grant (1845-1944
William Sickles (1844-1938)
Aaron Daggett (1837-1938)
Billy Rufus Stanford (1850-1937)
Adelbert Ames (1835-1933)
Julius Franklin Howell (1846-1948)
It seems like he said he was the last veteran from a particular place... Indian Mills? Definitely not the last veteran or the last member of the GAR. Last verified veteran died another 28 years following this. Please change the clickbait title or remove the video.
Thanks for the information. The title was based on the information from Twentieth Century Fox film corp and the MIRC. It’s understandable this information was made given the man’s actual interview and the understandable lack of digital databases back in the day.
I don’t agree with your assessment of “clickbait,” by definition, it’s defined as sensationalized, deceptive or intentionally misleading.
It doesn’t to much to see how the conclusion was made based on the content of the video, whether limited or not.
@@UpscaledHistory Sorry if I sound rude - it's just that the fact of the title is incorrect, and will clearly mislead anyone who doesn't know. It also sounds a lot like he mentions a town, "Indian Mills" or something? he's the last veteran of a specific place, not the last veteran of the Union or the Civil war.
@@SStupendous
It's still worth watching for anyone who clicks on... And it's flipping amazing?
I agree, it's amazing to see an interview with a veteran, any from the civil war. Always amazing. But all of this is presented with false information.@@pomegranate6221
@@UpscaledHistory I still don't get it though, the statement at the start of the video is 100% false, and nobody in 1929 thought this was the last veteran in the GAR. There were tens of thousands of veterans at the reunions that very YEAR.... and way later in 1938, there were still 1,800 vets that showed up for the 75th Gettysburg, with many more still at home.. last veteran died nearly 30 years after this. I'm just trying to say, to someone who doesn't know they will be misinformed by all of this.
I can’t really understand what he’s saying. I don’t think all the union soldiers were dead by 1928.
Precisely, there were literal GENERALS still alive at this time, and multiple high ranking officers.
Stop talking illegal! Let him talk! DIsrepectfull to us Vets!
Which civilwar
American civil war
@@colebeans3145 thanks
I’m not tryna be a dick but there’s a whole lot of clues telling you which one
What year was this filmed?
Can you not hear the video. He literally says it.
It's not of the last civil war veteran, just so you know.
I think it was 1928, @I_Dont_Reply_To_Idiots_Lol
