    I have found that having student chorally saying the I can statement before, during, and after the lesson has made a HUGE impact on their learning. Thanks for the video!

    Very helpful video! I love the fact that she wants the students to have ownership of their own learning. Sooooo true!!!

    I enjoyed this video. We are required to post the standard, not learning targets. This video have gave me ideas for next school year. I will. e teaching a new grade next year and I think i will be taking these tips and I think it will help me with my focus as I teach. I think posting the learning target along with the agenda. focuses my teaching. I hope you continue to continue with this professional development series. I love it.

    Thank you for this...yes we just started 3 years ago writing learning targets...well objectives we call them...the whole CIM model...gradual release... assessment...it would be great if you can go more in depth...we do that and show the higher learning as well...but seeing it in another classroom like yours... would be great! 😊

    This is very helpful! Thank you for giving a real standard to understand learning targets. I teach 4th and my team is having our standards planning day next week! So, this is a perfect video!!

    We list our "I can.." statement and then add another one that states, "today we will..." (for what we will do or how we will demonstrate our mastery of the learning target.) GREAT video! "You're the magic!"

    Thank you. This is a very informative and easy to understand (with great examples!) video about learning targets. Learning targets are my self chosen area of improvement for this school year, and I truly feel I have a much better grasp on all aspects of learning targets. Excellent.

    This is really helpful. Often we have these practices in our classroom, but there is so much terminology surrounding the different areas that it makes it challenging to distinguish between learning goals/targets/objectives, etc. I took from this video that learning targets are the bite size morsels of the standard or how you plan to scaffold the standard. I think it would be helpful to have a series of these teaching the teacher videos where you outline the difference between the standard, the objective, learning objective, the teaching point, and all of the other terminology that is tossed out by administrators. Thanks for making this video.

    Thank you for this video! It is so important that we incorporate opportunities for students to actively engage with their classmates during a lesson. I love strategies like Turn and Talk, Think-Pair-Share, Goal Setting, Cooperative Learning, and so on. Assessment and feesback is a very important component both at the beginning and the lesson! 😀 Small groups and individual conferences are amazing!! 😀 I learn so much from your videos and they are an extension of what I learn not only in grad school, but also in my life as a Paraprofessional as well! 😀

    I've done learning targets for a few years. This year we are using success criteria for each learning target. Which is what you explained. We had an informational share from the state which was so confusing! I wish I had you explain it to me instead of the state because it made so more sense. Lol.

    This is AWESOME Bridget. My county requires that we write the standard and the number on our class board for students to see. It's like using valuable whiteboard space for a foreign language.

    It would be awesome if you provided examples of how you combine the three types of learning targets in your classroom. I can't believe I graduated from a teaching program that did not teach this to us. Thank god for youtube and you.

    I use learning targets and students must write them down while doing their activator. I use I am learning statements, works wonders for them.

    Honestly I'm still feeling completely lost as to how to implement this. How can you possibly find the time to go back and revisit the target with kids that are struggling every day? My learning targets change almost every day and I'm an elementary teacher so I teach all the subjects. There is simply not enough time to go back and revisit the targets with every kids that's struggling for all five areas. There's barely enough time for me to do the reteaches I need to do. When you check them off what do you do with that paperwork? Where does it all go?

      I word mine a little differently too.... I have 3 statements... "Today I am..." "So that I can..." "I'll know I've got it when..."

    Thanks for sharing! 😊😊😊 you are amazing! I just started my first teaching job and it's SO much more challenging than I thought! Did you struggle with 4th grade classroom management at first?

    • @BridgingLiteracy
      @BridgingLiteracy  7 лет назад

      +Natalie - I did struggle a bit during the first two quarters. In my case, it was a matter of reconciling my experiences and expectations from Kindergarten with how those transferred to becoming a Fourth Grade teacher. I have tried to share some of those struggles through my videos this year. In a a few, I flat out say that I am struggling. In others, I think you can sort of read between the lines. However, I refuse to allow this channel to focus on struggles (or negatives) or in anyway make it appear that I dislike my job. By the way, Thank You for always taking the time to comment. ❤️ Have you read The Essential 55 by On Clark?

    • @natalie3104
      @natalie3104 7 лет назад

      Of course :) I love your videos! Thank you for such a thoughtful response! I just finished student teaching in 2nd grade and 4th grade is even so different from that. I cannot even imagine! I am discovering that SO much of teaching is behavior management and I'm afraid that is my weakness. It's hard to fill a leave for another teacher at this time of year too, but I am so frustrated with myself for not being a better manager of behavior and the students for behaving this way at this point! Is there a strategy you found to make things go more smoothly for you/consequences you give your students? I have not read The Essential 55. I have heard about it but wasn't sure if it would be helpful to me. I'd love to hear how you use it in your classroom :)
