      This person is an idiot. If companies want to sell into Europe they have to abide by the EU regulations. If companies sell only in the UK then they can abide by the UK regulations alone. We are a tiny island. If companies want to expand they will need to either align with the EU or have to make their products in two different ways.

As they keep their money away from the taxman, It is good business, while the rest of the population are taxed a Minimum of 20 - 25% of their income.
      However if you are not a millionaire and are one of those in the 99% cohort, then bad news: you voted against your own interests.

      Yes, but that will take decades, not years. We can’t even apply to rejoin the EU until either the Tories do a complete U-Turn on Brexit, or until the Lib Dems or Greens replace the Tories as the 2nd largest parliamentary party in the UK. I can’t see the UK rejoining the EU before the 2040’s.

    I work for an food exporter in Australia we follow EU standards and export regulations no other export markets reject these standards as in our case they are higher than almost anywhere else in the world so it's easy to export to world markets as they are happy to get higher quality goods

      I live in the UK and we are already subject to EU rules, because companies follow the rules because it's convenient.
      Drinks in the UK have their caps attached because the EU is bringing in rules to require it. So all European countries get those, because it's easier to have a single design everywhere

    Recent polling in Scotland had Rejoin at 78%, Stay Out at 12%, undecided at 10%. Just have the EU referendum in Scotland only. Problem solved.

      @@timonsolus We have just suffered 14 years of Tory that Scotland didn’t vote for. I’m extremely pissed off at the state of things. Boris Johnson was a pathetic failure that got 43% of the vote, and an 80 seat majority. Scotland had only 59 seats, of which the Tories got 7. The whole democratic position is balanced in favour of England.

The question was `Shall the UK leave or remain,` not `Shall Scotland or England leave or remain` Neither Scotland, England etc were members. You can`t vote to leave or remain in something you are not a member of. The UK voted on the matter, you can`t then move the goalposts and devolve the result.

      But it wasn't a disaster for him, was it. He soon moved most of his assets abroad (lots to Ireland, I think) to take advantage of what the EU had to offer. He's made an absolute bomb out of Brexit. And, for him and his like, that's all that matters.

    Britain does not have control of its international trade. For example, crude oil is traded in U.S. dollars. Britain has long agreed to that.
    The idea that Britain can control its trade is nonsense and is peddled to the British public.
    Britain abides by international trade rules, like everyone else. Each country making up it own international trade rules would throw world trade into chaos.

The USD is simply a much more valuable currency, backed by the most valuable economy, which gives world traders and agents peace of mind for its short and medium term stability to prefer it. If the UK again became the most valuable and stable economy in the world, then world trade would shift to it as well. That's in the past though.

The dollar is simply the most desired currency for international trade, due to its generalized purchasing power and perceived stability. The fact that most trade is in dollars is a very different claim than "trade MUST BE in dollars". That is patently false.

    As EU members we had alignment with EU product/safety standards. Come Brexit this was then removed and the ridiculous UKCA product safety mark. Even Brexiteers saw this didn't work, so we have already gone back to product compliance and 'CE' marking.

    Within the EU, the UK had a veto over any proposed EU changes. The majority of people in the UK decided that they no longer wanted that veto by voting to leave the EU in the Referendum.

      Brexit can’t and won’t be rolled back. There’s no way the EU will appease English entitlement again and grant UK any of its old privileges.
      UK can and should roll back several of its post-Brexit shenanigans, to start repairing its international reputation. When this is done (possibly in 20 years) you are welcome to apply to join the EU as a new member (of course under standard terms).
