You can put a structure with gates in RAS which will affect the water levels and shear stress in different 2D areas affected by the barrage, but sediment transport through a structure like that is a 3D process and RAS does not calculate that at this point
Hi Davide, We have footage of a 2D sediment workshop that we did here at HEC a couple months ago...including talks on those parameters. I'll be posting those soon.
Hello again Dr Gibson, Thanks again for all of these amazing videos. I was wondering if you have ever encountered increased fragmented innundation errors when performing bed change analysis using the sediment models ? I am finding my areas of high erosion also are subject to incredibly high fragmentation in RAS meaning my outputs are missing flow data over bed loss areas.
hello Dr Gibson, thank you for the video. I have tried to follow it and other 2D tutorial videos to work on a model but i'm getting an error and I can't seem to find out what it means. "ERROR: CHECKSedCoeffData: Precip or Excess have not been linked correctly", any idea what i might have to give a look to handle this ?
It looks like you have added precipitation data. I haven't done that much, so I'm not familiar with that error. Try redoing your boundary conditions without precipitation
@@stanfordgibson thank you for your reply, I didn't add any precipitation, I've gone through it a number of times but can't find any sign I might have added something related to precipitation unknowingly
Not in version 6.1. We have added the capability and are getting good results with lab data. Not sure if we're releasing it in 6.2. Look at the release notes when it comes out.
Hello, If you download the latest beta version from the HEC website and choose to install the example data sets there is at least one example, 2D sediment data set, and we're planning to add more.

@@oliviergauvintremblay313 That error can be a number of things...but in any case its a bug because RAS should fail more gracefully. If you reach out to me on Linkedin I can look at it.
Hi Dr Gibson. I've been attempting some 2d sediment modelling on an alpine reach and am finding I'm getting error code 157 consistently despise trying the fixes seen on hec ras forums? Is there some stability based setting I am missing?
Yeah, the team changed that. Right click on layers, select Create New Layer, choose the type of layer, and then in the editor, there is a create empty button.
And the Wu transform method cannot be found in the Transform as well. I am expecting the latest users' manual but the websites are still under maintenance. Any clue when will the website maintenance be done?
@@moonlighttreasure1099 Unfortunately no...every Friday we hear that they should be up by Monday...and aren't. Should be soon, but I've been saying that for a while.
@@moonlighttreasure1099 It sounds to me like you have cross sections in your model. RAS can either do 1D sediment or 2D sediment, it can't do both. So if you have cross sections, it turns off the 2D transport stuff...including Wu which is 2D only
It is a really awesome and helpful video. Thank you!
Thanks for the introduction to the new features. Merry Christmas!
Thank you Dr.Gibson
nice explanation. thanks for you efforts.
Thank you for the introduction...👍
great introduction video thank you

Hello Dr. Gibson, thanks for all the amazing videos. Can I be modeling the effect of barrage gates on sediment transport(gates numbers: 56 gate ) ?
You can put a structure with gates in RAS which will affect the water levels and shear stress in different 2D areas affected by the barrage, but sediment transport through a structure like that is a 3D process and RAS does not calculate that at this point
thanks Dr, I mean affecting gates operation on sediment deposition for downstream of the barrage ?
@@firdosnsaiefJasim Yeah, if I understand, that should be pretty straight forward (for a sediment model).
Hi Stan, are there video tutorials that runs through the parameters you tweaked and what they mean? Thank you
