  • ‘What this exhibition proves is that clay can act as a wonderful vehicle for expression for so many makers.’
Rich Miller is a ceramicist with a real passion for clay. His own work draws on British colonialism, and the eclectic styles and influences this has brought to the modern day UK. Miller will also be familiar to many as the Judge on television show, ‘The Great Pottery Throwdown’.
In this video, Miller takes a tour round the current Hayward Gallery exhibition, Strange Clay: Ceramics in Contemporary Art, which showcases 23 international artists who are using clay in very different ways.
Miller leads us through the works of four of the exhibition’s artists in particular, guiding us from the remarkable scale of Takuro Kuwata’s monoliths to the mystical, land created by Klara Kristalova; via the dexterity and detail of works by Shahpour Pouyan and Liu Jianhua.
Strange Clay is at Hayward Gallery until 8 January 2023. Book now: bit.ly/3H51iG5
