It still looked like the owner triggered a stronger reaction, maybe resource guarding or thinking she had more backup when the owner was there? Prince is just amazing!!

Joel, Gloria from your aggression class here. This dog has so many things in common with Lula. I believe that her reactivity could be changed the way this dog’s was changed if she could meet Prince and be corrected by him! It’s just amazing to watch. Thank you for all you do. And thank Princey too!!

I wish more people would recognize when one dog is correcting another. Most people think the dog correcting another dog's bad behavior is aggressive which is not the case.

I wish my dog could play with Prince.
I do not like dog parks. I do not like other dogs meeting my dog on walks. He really only has 1 play mate, my in-laws dog, they’ve been playing since he was a baby. They both play so rough, have high energy.
We’re going to be moving soon, he’ll have to find a new playmate there… but Shiloh will think he can play rough like that with all dogs, so he needs to get a few corrections in a safe way.

I love watchin prince. I wish I could have recorded the work my boy did before he passed but he was just like prince for local rescues. We worked on red zone dogs and I useds him and his body language to help read the dogs. More often than not the dog behaviors were just corrected by my boy safely. I am still very hopeful your training program gets some sort of grant soon, Ide love to take part but being disabled and on limited income restricts me to just stalking your youtube lol.

Random note I am attempting to start up my local training again and I am planning on using a large private enclosed felid for one on one dog plays like this with my current pilot dog for those that want their dogs to socialize or learn how to properly act when playin with another dog. Dog parks in my area are just toxic messes and Ide like to educate as many as possible on body language.

You get a ton of Australian Shepherds and it seems like 90% of them all have the same issues. That initial run up to Prince was crazy. The dog skid for a good 3 feet. You can also see the dog's not knowing what to do with itself because her brain is going haywire.

How much of this is lack of exercise? I have an ESS who has been well socialized but she will occasionally get into this same exact state(maybe 20% of the time we pass a dog on the street) However, that number is significantly higher when her activity has been dampened in days prior.
My conclusion from my experience has been that these working breeds need vast amounts of exercise, otherwise, no matter how well socialized they are, they are going to be looking for a job to do and in many cases this manifests in this type of reactivity.
Her reactions are so visceral. She will bark, lunge for a split second and then immediately tuck her tail and look at me. But it’s that initial visceral reaction that I can never seem to help her get rid of. She is always well rewarded when she remains neutral as well.

Just wondering if some dogs behave this way because they are taken away from their mothers too young. In the horse world foals learn from their mother’s boundaries and what is acceptable behavior. The herd also teaches young horses what is acceptable as well. In any case Joel has this down. He knows behavior and his methods are right on target. I have learned so much from his videos! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Could be, but it´s still not hard for a lot of people to f* up a 3-4 old puppy who lived long enough with the mother. Wrong breed (with high needs), no socialization, no education.

Definitely can play a factor. Its why some choose to be very selective on which breeder they go with.
Some will hold onto a fresh liter for quite some time prior to owner pickup.

I’m going to chime in and say when he gets older and it becomes a safety issue for Prince. Meaning when he’s too old to be bumped around. But that time may never come..he’s likely the type of dog that will go and go until his last day.❤

That is a working dog, has it ever worked the job that it is bred for? People need to stop putting dogs in situations that they aren't designed for and not taught the rules/language. Owners that are going to have a dog meant for working stock live in the city need to get a pug or some other companion only breed that naturally speaks dog or can pick it up easily and be controlled. That dog needs to learn that dogs are not sheep. How is Prince when working with cattle and sheep? It isn't his normal job but does he speak their language as well as dog? The Aussie doesn't know how to speak dog, which is what was taught here. Necessary for the situation but as you point out, Prince was teaching dog language and the Aussie was speaking cattle.

I can see dog behavior issues rising exponentially. As more and more people are replacing child-rearing with pet ownership, they're going to start assigning human emotions and needs to them in an attempt to fulfill their parenting urges. It's why more people think they should be able to bring their dogs everywhere, even when it's unsanitary. And God forbid you ask them to actually control and train their dogs. They think being assertive will hurt the dogs' feelings. Good luck, normal humans.

  • @skillz0729

Dogs that do this unfortunately need to learn their lesson. Because there will be a day where this Aussie challenges the wrong dog and it could have fatal consequences. He needs to Learn to chill and not act a fool with other dogs lol.
