    I grew up with four oversized t-shirts and ill fitting jeans that I wore on a regular basis. This stressed me out to high hell as a child and teen, so when I finally got a job as a teenager, I spent all my money on clothes and it was terribly difficult for me to get out of that habit. 7 years later I've been able to cull things down and be way more picky about what I purchase, but it's been an interesting transition.

    I switch up my life about 3 times every year. I change my hair, switch my furniture around, change my makeup, erase phone apps, and sometimes friends. I just love adjusting to change and figuring it out.

    How do you react or answer when people come to you and say: ''Oh you're wearing the same clothes over and over again? Don't you have money to buy new clothes?'' This video really inspired me to clean my room and think about what I really need, thank you for that! :)

    • @kivzzzz
      @kivzzzz 8 лет назад +18

      I'm not a complete minimalist, but I do own very few clothes. Nobody has ever said (in my adult life) anything about it. If it happens just don't take it personally. Say 'That's a rude thing to say to somebody. I have just enough clothes, thank you.' and just brush it off.

    Please do a wardrobe tour! The part I find sooo hard about wardrobe culling is that I always cull too much! And then I often find that I don't have a garment/outfit that I really need, so I buy things and then I buy too much and the cycle continues with culling and lacking, culling and lacking. So a video on how you make your wardrobe feel "whole" would be fantastic ^^'

    I get bored with my spaces too and constantly evaluate my spaces to see how I can make them look 'fresh', as you say. I've probably rearranged my office once every year since I've been in my current apartment. Thanks for such great videos! I've enjoyed watching your channel for a while now.

    Minimalism and keeping things to a minimum gives me peace. I have high anxiety and I'm also a clothes hoarder bc of that, but then having many options is just as triggering. Plus the sheer waste of money. I'm glad i found this video, it really describes my own journey. ❤️

  • @JungleVineJewels

    I too change my room around. Probably every 3-4 months. I like the fresh feeling as well. And thanks to you I have adopted a minimalist lifestyle. I have gotten rid of so much. I go thru waves. But I am happy to have nothing on flat surfaces! Its exciting. Thank you for your videos Rachel. You really have helped me organize my life.

    i know this is an older video; and i am 43 yrs old; but you are just like me in so many ways, when it comes to personal belongings(like not being sentimental about things, not keeping photos of people & etc, and our love of white, gray, and mostly black clothing, and being a minimalist, in general). and i only personally have had one friend that's just like that (same as me) with that type of stuff. it's good to discover a youtube series that speaks to me like your minimalism series does. i wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors. love your videos!

  • @bumblebwiii

    This is amazing. I am really interested in a minimalist lifestyle. I've cut back my items by a lot, but I still find that I have a lot of clothes and things and I just find myself constantly frustrated. I keep several things "just in case," but I never end up wearing/using them. These videos will be extremely helpful for me (this is the first minimalist series video of yours that I've watched), so I look forward to watching them all! 👍🏼

    I would loooove a wardrobe tour! I really recognize myself in what you're saying about when you were like 19 years old (I'm 20 now). Always wanting to buy stuff and having a weakness for cheap clothes so you can have more. Lately I'm really trying to change that part of my lifestyle. Also I'm still living at home and that's why is sometimes get so frustrated because I can't have my own 'place' here. You're home is my ultimate dream, but I guess I'll have to wait until I can move out and finally start creating my own home. Keep up the great work, you're a true inspiration.

    • @got2bfaster
      @got2bfaster 7 лет назад +26

      Maria k I recommend trying ethical and sustainable brands like PACT, Threads for Thoughts, Ash&Rose, and Everlane. They provide great quality pieces (including basics) but they support fair and sustainable fashion opposed to fast fashion. When I first decided that I wanted to become a minimalist, I looked around at your typical fast fashion retailers (H&M, F21, Zara, etc) but the more research I did on fast fashion and fair trade fashion, I realized not only quality matters, but supporting brands that strive to prptect our environment and pay their garmet workers fairly matter as well.

    Hi Rachel....Thanks for the great video...I can relate to what you said about getting tired of things....I once had my wardrobe down to two suitcases....but then I started hoarding them....Since January I've started watching videos on minimalism and so my journey began after feeling overwhelmed by all the stuff that was not making me happy....every closet, drawer and cabinets were bursting and no where to put anything else....frustrated and overwhelmed I started getting rid of it all....thanks for your videos I have used for guidance as to what to get rid of and what to keep... I'm about half way there....It seems that I keep finding things to get rid of all the time and each time I do I feel even better it makes me feel better, happy and more at peace.😊

    I'm very similar with my need to change things up. I always attributed it to moving a lot when I was young, you get used to having your life completely different every few years and it's difficult not to feel that itch when you finally do settle down. As uprooting myself every couple years isn't practical I try to find smaller things I can change within my life.

    Hey Rachel,
    I was wondering what kind of tips you would have for someone interested in starting a youtube channel or a blog to help them chronicle their health and minimalism journey? I've learned over the years that I do much better on goals and habits when I have people around me that expect me to follow through and cheer me on when I do. This has caused me to think that some public form might push me to actually keep going on the days that I feel like giving up. What kind of equipment, editing software, or information could you give for people who are interested in joining this kind of community? Your channel has really inspired me to get active and stop waiting to get healthy and to let go of all the extra things in my life! Thanks for all your hard work on all these videos!

    You mentioned spending more money on one quality item, rather than a bunch of average items. That depends sometimes, I've always had a bad go of it. I bought a pair of Steve Madden Trooper boots $100 dollars I barely wore them and they began to look disgusting. Then I bought 2 pairs of 20 dollars cheap boots, off brand, they're still perfect, it's been 3 years. My Steve Madden boots are my junk boots now.

    can you please please please do a video on your experience with developing your first real business? I'm considering following an entrepreneurial pathway and it'd be really great to hear the experience from someone who doesn't spend their time flashing money around on RUclips or behaving like a steroid junkie. I'd like to know what it's like, how you felt before you started and just really a genuine talk about it. everyone else who does it comes off a little insincere and appear as though they're advertising themselves all the time as though they're putting up a front about it. I love your videos and think that the way you speak has an element of realness that's difficult to find on RUclips.

    Can you do a video on caring for clothes? I also prefer having a few select quality clothes versus many poor quality, but I would love to know tips for making your clothes last.

    This is my first video of yours that I've watched, and everything in here really struck a chord with me. Immediately subscribing and tomorrow I'm going to start cleaning out my closet. My birthday is on Monday, but might as well start now! Thanks for this video!

    Oh girl, I've got a LOT of camera gear too. Part of the reason I'm watching your videos for inspiration to declutter the wardrobe. Do you worry about wearing the same thing in multiple videos? I feel like I need clothes just for that.. Thanks for the help!

    Yes, I thought I was the only one. I get bored with things so easily, my mom got tired of me moving my room around so often she banned me from moving it until every 6 months.
