I came here because of collage's class. I'm not a Shakespeare expert at all, actually, this is my first time that, because of a class, I have to study Shakespeare life and before watching this video I had already read some documents that the teacher had sent us about Shakespeare's Life. I understand that the purpose of the video is to inform people, but according to my perspective, this video has images and information that do not agree with what I have read. I think some of the images do not belong to the information provided, such as the image that appears in 0:17 indicating that this is Shakespeare and his mother; as I understand Shakespeare was born in 1564 and the first photograph of which there is a record It is from the year 1826. Also at 2:03 says that his plays began to be published in 1594 and i read that Shakespeare's plays were published after he died.

This video has serious problems, even though it is attractively produced.
I am going to be very hard in my criticism, because, if you present it for a class, then only your teacher gets to mark it, but once you put it on You Tube, it is public property and other students are influenced by it. I suggest that you take it down, and do it again better.
    1. At 0.09 it shows a portrait. This portrait dates from the time of Shakespeare and has always been identified as a different person. The man in the portrait is almost certainly Thomas Overbury. His clothing (which you cannot see here) and in particular his lace collar, indicate that he was an extremely wealthy man. Owning a collar like that is like owning a Ferrari. We know that Thomas Overbury DID own one, because a miniature portrait shows what appears to be the same collar. Recently, the owner of this portrait made a claim that it was Shakespeare, which immediately increased its value tremendously.
Although the hairstyle and beard is similar to the usual images that you see of Shakespeare, the face has very different characteristics. - the shape of the nose, the curl of the lips etc.
    2. "The God of English Literature" I have never, ever, in all the very many years that I have read, studied and discussed Shakespeare, heard of him referred to as "the God of English Literature".
3.0.18. Showing a picture of a random mother with a baby, an image that has NO ASSOCIATION with the topic, is a mistake. It is very misleading. Someone who is not very smart might be led to believe that this picture is of William Shakespeare and his mother. Don't put phoney images into your videos. It is better to have a blank than a deceitful image.
    4. 0.28. The house in the picture MAY have been Shakespeare's birthplace. He seems to have owned this building later in his life. His sister MAY have lived here. Half of it was rented tout as a tavern. (a bar). Most of the building that you see dates from after Shakespeare's death.
    5. 0.33 Do not make a STATEMENT when you KNOW that you cannot be sure of the facts. Use the words "It is thought" or "It is probable". as in "It is Probable that Shakespeare got his formal education at Kings New Grammar School (where?) in Stratford upon Avon.
    6. This is a very badly worded sentence. Use "education", not "teaching". "He probably got his got his formal education". The education that he got was not "Basic English" . That is the term for what you learn as a foreign student.
The sort of education that an English boy at Grammar School received in those days was reading, writing, and some arithmetic. An important component was Latin. They might also learn some Classical Greek.
    7. Age six. You don't have the faintest clue at what age he might have gone to school, so do not include this as if it was a known fact.
    8. 0.42. "Many evidence is bad English; it should read "much evidence". Now THIS is the reason why you needed to write "t is thought" or "Probably" into your last sentence.
You have now brought up a matter that is VERY HARD to explain, unless you want to give a lot of time to it.
    Here are the problems:
    a. It is wrong to say that there is much evidence that he DID NOT attend school. It should be stated like this: "There is NO EVIDENCE that he DID attend school." These to sentences mean quite different things.
    b. The second problem is that even if William Shakespeare from Stratford upon Avon DID attend school, the plays seem to have been written by a person who attended University, and who had travelled widely. William Shakespeare never did theses things. Also William Shakespeare had no access to a library, as we do today, so it would have been very hard for him to read a huge number of books. If he wanted to look up a dictionary, an atlas, a book about plants, or anatomy, or astronomy or how to sail a ship, or how warfare was conducted in ancient times, then he COULD NOT go to the library and look it up.
For this reason, some scholars believe that the person who actually WROTE the plays could NOT POSSIBLY have been William Shakespeare from Stratford upon Avon, but was someone else, using Shakespeare's name, by agreement.
    9. At 0.49, there again is that picture of the mother and child which should not be included. We have no picture of Anne Hathaway, but her cottage is still standing near Stratford, and is very pretty.
    10. At 1.28. If you are going to quote something, then GET IT CORRECT. Robert Greene did NOT say that Shakespeare's writings were "rubbish". What did he actually SAY? He said that Shakespeare was an "upstart crow" (in other words Shakespeare thought he had the right to write plays, when he was only an actor, not a writer. If you are going to quote a writer, GIVE THEIR NAME.
    11. At 1.28. You have not understood the reason why Robert Green's comment is SO IMPORTANT. The reason that it is important is that it is EVIDENCE that in 1592, Shakespeare was writing plays.
    12. At 1.34. The statement that Robert Greene "documented Shakespeare’s biography" makes this read as if Robert Greene really did write a biography of Shakespeare. No he didn't.
Greene wrote something that is in part HIS OWN biography, and MIGHT indicate that he was sorry for having been rude to Shakespeare in the past. The FACT is that NO_ONE wrote Shakespeare's biography until many years later, and THEN, they had to imagine most of it because they didn't really know his birthday, where he was born, where he was educated, or most of the seemingly "true" facts that you have listed here.
    13. The image at 1.42. I don't know what this is, but it is a MODERN image of people in EARLY 20th century costumes at a Christmas party. Can you POSSIBLE think of a reason to have this picture when you are writing that Shakespeare's plays were performed by the Lord Chamberlain's Theatre Company?
    14. 2.06 Don't use capital letters at the beginning of the words "new", "company" and "his". "New Company" does not mean the same as "new company". It means that there was a company called "New Company". You should go through the entire video and remove EVERY capital letter that is not either the beginning of a sentence, r the beginning of a name (person, place, book, company, etc)
    15. At 2.20, No capital for "works" or "work" or "famous".
    16. At 2.20 "By 1599 Shakespeare's works were famous all over the globe."
What sort of silliness is this?
Are you REALLY telling me that in 1598, Shakespeare's plays were published in book form, and that by ONE YEAR later, they had become famous to the people of Japan, the Eskimos in Greenland, and the Maoris in New Zealand who did not see a European person for another 150 years?
Did you read the word "Globe" and not understand what was meant by it? Let me tell you. The "Globe" was the name of one of the theatres where Shakespeare's plays were performed.
In recent years, a new "Globe Theatre" has been built in London, near to where the old one once stood. It is very popular with tourists and students who can still see plays performed there in a historic manner.

What you are saying about the painting is plain nonsense. The painting is recognised by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust as a portrait from Shakespeare's own day. It's Shakespeare all right. I don't think you're qualified to criticise others.
