    Handmade drop-in replacement rear / back panel set for your Vox AC15HW or AC4HW series combo amp! All you need is a screwdriver to remove old panels and install these new ones. This set was based on original vintage VOX combo cabinets from the 60's.
    Why upgrade? Well first, this looks better! Secondly, this panel set provides an improvement in sound and efficiency over the stock panels which make the amp sound rather constipated!
    This panel configuration I came up with has a more open "port", 110 in.² to be exact, and positioned directly behind the speaker magnet. This is an increase of over 30 in.² from the factory opening and more closely resembling 60's vintage AC15's combo cabinets. This design also allows convenient access to store the AC power cord and footswitch inside cabinet - which the stock panel set would not allow.
    This panel set is covered in Vox Fawn tolex and additionally features metal shielding behind chassis to reduce hum and potential RF - which the stock panel doesn't even have ... GASP!
    It's a perfect "Drop-in" replacement that uses all of your existing hardware from original panels which include 14 machine screws for top piece and six wood screws for bottom panel. I've even provided mounting holes for the ID plate. Unscrew the old one and mount it directly to the new top panel.
    Hand made in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Thanks for watching.

    Thank you for the video. I just got an ac15c1 and was curious about shielding on the back panel. I picked up some noise and was moving the amp around the room to get ready to open it up after which I discovered the noise went away depending on the position in my room. So I guess I will need to add shielding.
    Nice panels, by the way. I'm sure your amp sounds much better with more of an open back.

    Sweet! Are your replacement panels MDF as well? That's a heavy material, plywood or pine would be lighter.

    • @awwnawmang
      @awwnawmang  5 месяцев назад +1

      They're made from MDF and yes they are heavier than pine or ply. The last batch I made, I used pine for the bottom panels and MDF for top. Pine unfortunately doesn't route well but it works for the bottoms - however it does tend to warp a little. Birch plywood would be ideal but it has been too expensive.

      Thank you and gotcha, your material decisions do make sense. I just wondered. It seems like one is always robbing Peter to pay Paul when it comes to weight, durability, look and price. I really like your work. @@awwnawmang

      @awwnawmang  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks.@@markwolfe4444 I have struggled with how to make these better and lighter. Even thought of removing material in the inside to relieve weight but the more steps in the process, the more time it takes and that's a tricky balance. These already take a LOT of time to produce. Maybe if I were retired I would have the luxury of time but for now I don't.

    I just picked up this same amp but with black vinyl instead of fawn. I'm thinking of doing this exact mod (amp isn't here yet) but I'd have to have someone make it. I could also simply cut off the existing top panel where the metal grill starts and call it a day. Don't suppose you'd make one with black vinyl? 😬

      I've been using MDF because it is much easier to work with and when routed it provides a cleaner result. Pine is a complete pain in the ass for these believe me I tried - because I wanted to keep the weight down but ultimately the MDF provided a better looking result. The original panels are MDF too by the way so ...

      @@awwnawmang Thanks for that info...I appreciate it.
      How generally do you like the amp. Can you get a nice overdrive from it or is it a cleaner amp where it's best to use an overdrive pedal? Thanks again.

    • @awwnawmang
      @awwnawmang  Год назад

      @@uptownphotography LOVE the amp. This particular version of the AC15 is very versatile. I do however find the HOT switch a bit too much for my taste. I also prefer a standard Greenback over the blue alnico. And I mainly used the LOW input on the amp at 15w. OD pedal yes. Only wish it had on board reverb and I'd be set. I added an extension speaker jack and have used this live with a Marshall 4x12 and it was glorious. I also did a bunch of modifications to the circuit (nikplayer mods) and use NOS russian powe tubes.
