The real artists here are the coders who made this all possible and are continuing to refine their algorythms. When all is said and done, however, most of the art looks mechanical, not organic; decorative, not emotional.
The real artists here are the actual artists whose imagery trains the AI! The coders are great but, without the source material of artists like the one he mentions in his prompt, there is no Midjourney. Also, as you stated, the algorithms are getting better so, with proper prompting, its almost impossible for the average person to tell whether or not a painting, picture, or poem was made by an AI or not. And sadly, soon most won't care.
